OF is a joke not sure why people watch him and repost his video.

Hope the hurricane will not hit bad. Ordering through BH is an option and the total cost is about the same as here but when I resell, not sure why people, want to see that it was brought in Switzerland even if is a 4 year old body with no warranty. Auto WB is not a major issue for me as I mostly shoot RAW, but I did notice that between "takes" especially on the ice arena is inconsistent something that the R5c is not. I will use the preset when using 10bit formats just to be on the safe side.

It seems that your first one had some hw issue on top of the bugs. I tested IBIS with the old FW at 14mm (IS lens) and 16mm (no IS lens) handheld fast panning, slow panning, tilting and twisting and I could not see the same wobble issue that the R5 had. If is still there very much improved. Since updating to the new FW I have shot 2 more hockey matches and 1 additional show jumping competition, and I did not encounter any issue. I will be selling my R5c for a second R5 II as soon as I find one in stock that here in Switzerland seems impossible to find. I can confirm that the AF, battery life and the image quality vs R5c the R5 II is definitely better. Just now I was editing a video that I shot with both R5 II and R5c both in RAW and the image of R5 II is just better and can take more beating in post. One thing that is not super is the auto WB, the R5c is more consistent. Frame grab 8k 50, ISO 4000, no noise reduction, shot through a Plexiglas...

3. Could explain why it does not happen to me a lot, because I either use the EVF but then the LCD is off an mostly turned in or I use the LCD but I don't use the EVF. Thinking about I know why it happened only in 200fps because there I was continuously switching between EVF and LCD.... I hope it fixes it. For the battery drain die you had the setting with Standby: Low Res to On? This makes a big difference while not filming how much battery you drain. R5c does not have this feature, and it burns battery at the same rate if your record or not.

Number game interpretations. For RAW with no processing you should compare to the max DR possible so it would be 14.9 vs 13.4. The proof that in 4k Log R5II 13.6 stops of usable DR vs 12, indeed disappointing π And view that you are disappointed can you point hybrid cameras with more than 13.6 stops? I believe only A1 has 0.2 more... But again, I don't care about the numbers too much as I just open the files from both camera that I own and is definitely visible the better DR.
-
The wide lens (sensor) is the same quality as the standard one so a good improvement but other than that not much this time.
-
Canon claims 16 stops for both so not sure why you are expecting significant improvements from the r1 vs r5 II. In my experience shooting R5c and R5 II (I own both) side by side the R5 II has better DR. The numbers also confirm this. On the IBIS issue I agree with you. Same for the overheating. Btw I owned 1D III, 1Dx, 1Dx II and 1Dx III and I'm so happy that R3 and R1 does not look any better than the R5 II so I can skip those huge body that are a pita on gimbal and heavy. I use big lenses like the 100-300 2.8 on the R5 II and compared to my sports steup of years ago 1Dx III + 200-400 is much lighter and compact for a better picture quality.

Last week I shot two ice hockey matches and a horse endurance race. Shot mostly 8k 25 and 50 RAW and some 10bit 2k 200fps. I did not have any issue with black/green screen, but I never had it in RAW. As I film the hockey matches in the same arena so same lighting and similar situations, I can confirm that AF is better than R5 and R5c and the image quality too, it is less noisy, and I find it easier to expose. The AWB I feel the R5c is better but as I mostly shot RAW it does not really matter. I'm exposing the highlight to just barely pass the last top row of the WFM and it seems to be working well in most of my scenarios. Now Canon please add a button to show and hide WFM!! Battery life in 8k 25 is about the same as the R5 and much better than the R5c. At 8k 50 I shoot around 30 min of footage with the camera on, continuously AF and IS (no standby) for around 1.5h with 1 battery and still had juice left. In 8k 50 it will eventually overheat, for the endurance race (under the sun at 25c) I did longer takes like 5-10 min each and the overheating warning was at 2 out 10. Is the only occurrence so far that the warning came out but most of my takes are below 5 min. I got scared because a couple of times the brightness of the EVF did change while shooting, the recorded video was normal with no brightness change, then I realized that I did disable auto brightness of the LCD but not for the EVF.... rookie mistake. I did a quick test at 14mm and the IBIS wobbling is much improved over the R5, where it was not usable imo... I need to do some more tests as I did only by standing still and panning (fast and slow) but no walking/running yet. I'm starting to consider replacing my beloved R5c with a second R5 II, for my usage the only two things that I would really miss from the R5c on the R5 II are: peaking during AF (less needed as the R5 II AF is better) and no overheating. The biggest improvement over the R5c is AF, battery life, DR (noise, highlights and easy to expose), 2k 240fps, c1-c3, IBIS (although I'm sure there will be occurrences that I wish it did have full locked system)

I have a hard time seeing why for hybrid usage somebody would choose a R1 instead of a R5 II

AF not reliable, they changed the AF chip twice, one was a recall, but nothing really improved. I also had the mirror box replaced because it was getting stuck in hot temperatures... it was 1 week old, sent in twice as these stupid support people ignored my note to warm the camera to 30 degrees. At the end I traveled there at put it on a radiation and show the issue. CPS gave me a 1Dn loan until it was fixed. In 20 years of Canon is the only issue that required me to send it in but I was really frustrated. On the R5 II, I don't believe the green screen issue is HW it sounds typical of buffer bugs (Resolve had similar issues in the past). Getting a replacement now it will most probably have the same HW. It is really widespread the issue so either is FW or is a recall.
-
I do not really agree the worst offender was the 1D III, 3 trips to Canon to get it fix....and really never got fixed. Not sure that at that time it was better.... and it was the top of the line camera.
-
From Canon rumors so it is a rumors π Update: Canon has started to install firmware v.1.0.1 on serviced Canon EOS R5 Mark II camera bodies. This update looks like it addresses an issue with the screen going green when shooting video.
-
HW issue? It seems a typical buffer corruption issue... purely SW... but let see.... The picture that you posted is what happens to me, so far only in 200fps but I do shoot mostly in RAW. AF never stopped in my case, and I shoot 3 TB of video so far, all using AF. Was it with the adapter or RF? If it is with the adapter, then it seems to have an issue with it as first the aperture and now the AF both that needs camera+adapter+lens communication.
-
Correction it seems the same and many have this issue: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4773815 I will try the above settings to see if it happens again.
-
In my case when I press the record button the video feed goes black but all the info items on the screen are still visible. Is like filming with the lens cap on, so it seems different than your case. I had to pull the battery but I was in an hurry. Iβm submitting the case to CPS

Really nice video. Your summary is quite in line with mine that I posted here: https://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/88441-canon-r5-mark-ii-firmware-problems/?do=findComment&comment=754082 I had the same black screen bug, in my case only at 200fps but now that I think about it is also the only mode that I did shoot not in RAW. Seems a fixable firmware bug. Same for the annoying wfm. The lens issue never happened to me (so far), but I used only RF lenses no adapter: 100-300 2.8 (naked, 1.4x, 2x), 28-70 F2, 16 2.8, 14-35 4. Did you check if the contacts of the adapter are good and clean? In a few presses release it was mentioned that 8k 50/60 is only RAW light (not sure why somebody would use RAW (maybe for VFX) I'm happy to see that I was not dreaming about the better quality of CLog2. I'm just editing right now and the difference between R5c CLog3 and R5 II Clog2 is quite visible and for me is also easier to expose correctly.

In the last two weeks I did film two horse show jumping events including the international one with most of the top riders in the world. I also covered a track and field event with some Olympics athletes in not great lighting, I was there for photos, but I did play a bit on the B competition with some slow motion. The good: Battery life is quite ok (no grip), much better than R5c and it does not burn battery while not recording, I could keep my camera on while not filming. As I film a lot in 8k 50 RAW is a liberation to not need a cage + external battery + cables.... my only big complain about the R5c. I find it a bit easier to expose with Clog2 than 3, I get less noisy shadow and better highlight, it seems to have a bit better DR. I was filming with both R5c and R5 II at the same time and the R5 II seems to show a tad better DR. Is not world changing but is noticeable. AF is imo a big step forward for action/sports compared to R5c and R5. The fact that you can draw the area where you want to find faces and the way it tracks head looking forward, backwards and with helmets is quite amazing. It has the same feature and behavior in all modes/frame rates. C1-C3 presets super useful, I'm missing this so much on the R5c. Super quick to change from 8k RAW 50, 4k 10bit 100fps and 2k 10bit 200fps and back. 2k 200/240 in CLog2 with full AF is insane, nothing available that I'm aware close at this price.... quality is ok but more than usable imo. If you use a high shutter speed, you can easily use Resolve Motion Estimation to interpolate to 480fps. My athletes were super impressed by the image that they got. Did not have any overheating issue but horse show jumping is always 1-2 min recording and 1-2 min waiting, and I don't film all the athletes but only the ones from the 3 teams that I cover so is not really a taxing scenario. Is fully compatible with RS3Pro and Raveneye, I can start stop and change settings via the DJI Ronin app. R5c is partially compatible, I can start stop but cannot change settings. It has a tad faster RS at 8k 50 and is noticeable on panning that there is a bit less leaning of the obstacle's posts. The bad: Waveform cannot be resized, and you cannot assign a button for turning it on or off, even more funny is that you cannot add the menu item to mymenu... seems a last-minute addition that is unfinished. At least it does the job but once I have set the exposure it annoys me as I want to focus on tracking well the athlete. I had two lookups π while starting to film at 200fps, it did not happen (yet) in any other mode, I had to pull the battery. Funny enough I had also a lookup with the R5c while stopping a recording, fortunately I did not lose the file. Bad day? The two at 200fps seems too much but let see. Not a big issue but the formats menu is a mess imo. Too many choices easy to mess it up. I prepare beofre the event my C1-C3 and never touch that messy menu. Some slow motion examples, again tons of aliasing and a bit soft but what else give you good DR, full AF, at this fps in an affordable price? No1 in the world at 240fps and interpolated at 480fps (sorry I left the audio track in π Detail at 400fps interpolated (sorry I left the audio track in π Track and Field 200fps It can also take picture, at 30fps you can get a bit better timing, and it has better RS but not sure is worthed over the R5 for photo only:

Yes I did watch it, and a studio-controlled example with no info on what he did to the image is for me is not super useful comparison. Btw I tent to not look at YT comparisons anymore... most they never represent my usage and mostly are optimized to make something looks better. In my usage (never studio or static setup) Osmo is better. I find that has soon as the light is not perfect iPhone footage breaks a part very quickly, I did a rely nice shoot in Alaska and it took me 1h of tweaking to kind of get something usable out: Is great that on the 16 they improved the wide angle as in my 15 is not really good: iPhone is impressive for what it is but all this BS that compares it to mirrorless, RED, etc.... in my usage it does not even compare favorably with the Osmo Pocket 3 other than in perfect condition. I have R5 II, R5c, Osmo Pocket 3, Insta GO 3s and X4 and the iPhone is the one that I like the least (of course quality is better than the GO3s and the X4), do I use it a lot? Yes, due to connivence and also the 5x tele (even worst quality but great backup solution when mounted on top of my main camera).
-
I have both and use both a lot at the same time... and the quality of Osmo is noticeable better. The iPhone image breaks a part sooner and is more cocked/fake imo. Today I did use both as C and D camera and Osmo wins in quality. I use both in their "Log" but no ProRes as is a pita.
-
There is not an equivalent for iPhone, an option would be one of this suction one but not sure how good it is. As the MIMO app can already control the pocket gimbal and the Ronin App has the gyro logic it would be a week max for DJI to code and test this feature. I dropped a couple of comments in the official dji forum a few months ago... not holding my breath...
-
They should make a pro version with dual lens and aperture control! I used to have a Phantom 4 Pro that had 1inch with aperture control and it was amazing not sure why they dropped aperture. Touch could be a bit better, the need of an adapter for tripod is also not great and they should add a gimbal lock mechanism. My biggest grip with the pocket 3 is the lack of phone gimbal control using gyros.... the virtual joystick is super bad... I can place the pocket 3 in placed that no big camera would be allowed but controlling it via virtual joystick is not good. All the Ronin have this feature not sure why they did not implement it on the mimo app...

Mine overheats in 4k 25 and 50fps 10bit log h265 internal, no attached storage. It is a phone and can do already miracles but quality and usability is still far off a Mirrorless, yet you can use it everywhere and is very convenient. Osmo Pocket 3 has imo quite a bit better image quality and dji log can take more post processing.
-
On the overheating I would not be so sure. My iPhone 15 Pro Max overheats like crazy, I cannot let the phone in the sun turned off for 15min (pre event) and then record, while my R5 in 8K Raw has no problem. The phone is mounted on top of the R5 so exactly the same time, position, temperature....

Indeed, as Gopro is nowhere to be seen, it is great that Insta360 has competition so they will further improve and invest in the 360 space.
-
I like Dji products and Dji Neo is a cool idea but this time with a terrible camera, calling that a 4k camera it is dishonesty, it looks worse than Insta360 X2 reframed.... max 720p.... They should have made it a 350 USD and put the Mini 2 camera or similar...
