  1. I think for wildlife doc and things like that it could be a competition to RED at 8k 110 fps you can do slow motion you can reframe so you can have bit of margin.... let say for a cheetah hunt could be quite handy... the formfactor could be an issue as you cannot easily mount it on gimbals, drones or cineflex . If it would have been FF and another formfactor would for sure more appealing... anyway impressive achievement imo
  2. That for sure even canon RAW are much easier to edit than 4k h265 10bit 4:2:2.
  3. From my understanding 8k and 4k are not cropped but scaled at least from the product page. So you should get 4k, 8k and 12k all raw and the same field of view that makes it much more practical.
  4. Strange that they have kept CFast instead on CFexpress.... Specs are impressive but not sure how many will pick this up instead of a C300 iii or an FX9

    Sony A7S III

I’m confused from the rumors if 4k 120 is external only or not? 4k 120 10 bit 600 mbits seems a bit on the thin side especially if it is all-i
  6. No AF, no FF, more noise and no IBIS So you need to speedboost and use a gimbal (the video apparently was done half with a gimbal and half handheld) Not sure E2 4k 120/160 is 10 bit? On the plus of E2 no overheating and can go even 160fps.....
  7. Some people are impressed by the posted video some not and is absolutely fine and right so. For me the "stunning" or better very good is the fact that is a 120fps not 60, there are not many cameras on the market that can give you detailed image at 120fps.... let alone with FF look and AF.... only a limited number of cameras can give you 4k 120fps and FF only this one. I was expecting more mushy stuff at 120fps.... Would this video be shoot at 30 or 60 fps maybe it would not be so special (still good imo) but it is at 120fps FF 4k using AF so it demonstrate a unique capability of this camera very well. For some this feature is a useless one for others is a key aspect even with the overheating limitation.
  8. We really needed another thread about this.... there are at least 3 threads already
  9. Why not wait a bit to check out some original files and some real usage reports and then decide. Checking out the original files is also very important as they are heavy on HW requirements.... Forgot to add in the other post R5 4k 120fps is miles ahead than 1080 120fps of the 1Dx ii and iii that is barely usable.
  10. I answered in the other thread. btw 4k ff 30fps no crop binned does not overheat (apparently from the canon doc)
  11. The video AF should be much improved over the 1Dx ii (at least is the case for the 1Dx III) you also gain peaking, zebra and more important LOG. Also if you need to save storage you can go as low as 120 mbits for 4k where on 1Dx ii you are at 500 mbits and on more expensive cards (actually up to 30fps you can us CF card but need to be fast ones) Not sure but FF binned could be quite usable too as 4k 120fps is imo good. But did not find yet an example other than 120fps Also th vND adapter is an handy tool. I had the 1Dx ii and it was really good and used you can find then 2500-2800 usd.... but for video I think the R5 is superior but we need more tests and user experience.
  12. Did you turn off HW acc for h265 and restart Resolve? On Windows with QuickSync off I can edit 4k 30,60,120 10bit all-i and ipb perf is not realtime other than 4k 30 ipb (yes ipb is faster than all-i that seems a Resolve issue) 5.5k RAW 30 and 60 on 4k 30 dci timeline is realtime with some basic nodes.... Gaming notebook i9 10980HK nvidia 2070 S MaxQ
  13. Not sure how it is done with h265.... today I will try the 4k 30, 4k 60 all-i and ipb and 5.5k RAW 30 and 60 of my 1Dx III on my new machine and report back
  14. The optimization are for RAW! I just updated by notebook and I will re run some test with the 1Dx III files but as I wrote multiple times in multiple topics currently no HW acceleration from Intel or Nvidia for h265 10bit 4:2:2 so you need a really powerful PC..... Also you are probably testing 4k 120fps so is 4 times the processing needed than 4k 30fps......
  15. You need to disable intel quicksync in the preferences of Resolve at least on Windows. H265 4:2:2 10bit are not HW accelared at the moment by Intel and NVIDIA only 4:2:0 of 4:4:4 As I never had a camera with IBIS can it be turned off (I think so)? And what is the effect on a gimbal when off?
  16. Did download the 4k 120fps 10bit files and played around and is not oversampled detailed but for 120fps is really really good, I did not expect this. Btw BM just released Resolve 16.2.4 with perf optimization for 1Dx and R5 RAW.
  17. is in the description and you can even download the originals 4k 120 10 bit
  18. They could have created a battery grip with fan and give the choice to users.... and even make more money
  19. 1Dx III only in RAW you can save a proxy in the other card (can be 4k 10bit or 8bit as you want). Non RAW are one card only.
  20. Or they don't overheat because they don't offer internal >4k RAW or 4k 120fps? The sensor and cpu of the newly released A9II cannot even do 60fps...... or more than 8 bit.... so not sure what are you comparing with? FF sensors generates more heat that small sensors like 4/3, gopro , phones etc..... RAW requires CFexpress with really high bandwidth and they become really hot while running highspeed. If I touch mines while on the CFexpress reader (half sticks out and get air so better than in the camera) while copying big files to the PC they get really hot.... So the combination of running at the limit with the sensor, cpu and storage produces a lot of heat and this not due to inefficient components but really running at the limit. The Fx9 needs fan as the C500 II needs one and the 500 II can do internal RAW at 6k and Fx9 only max 4k non raw (yes the one using the amazing Sony components). And both were released at the same time.... so I don't see any prove that Sony cpu / sensors are more heat efficient.... Of course Canon could have put fan on the R5, most photographers would have hated it and imo >80% of the sales will go to photographer but I could be wrong.... Maybe the A7SIII will show this superiority but right now I don't see it....
  21. There are a couple of key things that we need to see by people really using it and not all these yt useless preview of the preview preview 🙂: - 4k 120fps and 8k LOG and RAW, can you continuously do 1-5 minutes takes with a 1-5 minutes breaks in-between without overheating or not? If yes then is probably fine for a lot of people especially because this modes produce huge files so I doubt people will record 3h of 8k RAW in a day anyway, but if after 3-4 takes you need to cool down the camera for 15min then is a major usability issue. - 4k binned quality and RS up to 30fps - 4k binned can the camera shoot all day (restarting every 30 min as any canon dslr so far) If the binned quality is good and there is no overheating and in high quality modes you can take as many short takes as you want then is an ok compromise to get these "super modes". For what I saw so far 4k 120fps seems quite good, of course not like 5.5k 60 from the 1Dx III but a huge increase in quality compared to the 1080 120fps (that is barley usable) of the 1Dx III. RS seems similarly bad as the 1Dx III for the oversampled modes and 8k. RS in 60 and 120 fps is of course good or very good. Did not find yet a binned 4k 30 fps RS example.
  22. As far as I know there is no signal from camera to the mike that recording has started or stopped. On the VP83F you need to press a button to start and stop the internal mike recording. Then synchronizing without a scratch track is more challenging....
  23. Worst case is 16ms at 60p...... above that is physically impossible so 16ms is very good for FF... from the @padam posted video RS in 25p is quite bad similar to 1Dx III but was it oversampled or not?
