  1. To me the camera on the ronin is a Sony and I would guess is A7s III
  2. Seems a new Insta360 RS modular camera...
  3. It is a bit slow pace for my test but it is a really good video explaining how color management in Resolve works. Thanks for sharing!
  4. Still not sure why you are choosing between FX9 vs C300 II? Full frame: FX9 vs C500 II vs RED V-Raptor or S35: FX6 vs C300 III (C70) vs RED Komodo X RED and Canon have internal RAW. Sony not. I bet Canon will update beginning of next year the C300 and/or the C500 to move to RF mount as the C70. They just released the cinema primes in RF and now the new RF 24-105 2.8 power zoom so the road is clear. RED already using RF mount. It may or may not a concern for you. Sony is E mount so is all modern and good there. I'm sure you would be happy with any of the camera above. But first you should ask yourself which look you like: super sharp high DR or more soft dreamy? Also do you heavily color grade including big white balance changes etc. or your are looking more to a natural style. A FF 8k/6k RAW camera with a photo lens will produce a sharper and provably a bit more HDR look than a S35 4k with a cinema lens....
  5. On modern HW, Macs >=M1 and Intel >= Gen12 CPUs, h265 4:2:2 10bit is not an issue anymore. I can edit real-time 8k h265 10bit on Intel Gen13 CPU. I don't see a huge difference in speed h265 4k and 8k ALL-I vs IPB. On modern HW no need for proxy especially in 4k timelines. I edit mostly 8k RAW on a high end gaming notebook no proxy needed. For Resolve keys are: - studio version - Intel >= gen12 - GPU with 8 GB RAM
  6. 50% video, 50% photo work almost all action related. Paid, YT + social media + local TV, professional level: Equestrian, Ice hockey, MTB, Trial bike, Ski & Snowboard alpine/freeride, motorsports GT & Rally. Hobby: Wildlife, Aviation, Family A cam: R5c B cam: R5 C cam: Insta360 1 inch, Insta360 RS and Insta360 GO, iPhone My biggest usage for the iPhone is on top of my R5c especially when I’m using long lenses >=300mm to have a wider pov, for equestrian it is my standard setup. Or in places where a normal camera is too cumbersome e.g. some b-roll inside a cramped helicopter. Btw I’m pretty sure that all the “YT guess iPhone 15 vs best camera in the market” they start with the best conditions for a phone, then grade what the iPhone can take and then have the more pro camera match it. The inverse would show a different story imo. Again, it is incredible the progress that iPhone had in the last years but still not comparable to a good camera. Imo it sits closer to a Gopro than a mirrorless camera. Super useful feature are the 3 focal lenses, good stabilization, log and you have it always with you.
  7. I understand, flip out screens are super valuable on gimbals but I get that is not something that you are using for your nature work.
  8. FX9 or C500 II would be more comparable. Still why not a C70 i think for a one man band is a better buy than a C300 III?
  9. I got my iPhone 15 Pro Max (upgrade from 13 Pro Max) and some early observations: Quality is good when in shooting good conditions but breaks quite quickly if you miss exposure, in low light, etc. Log files can be graded easily and have no over-sharpening, can take some post processing but way less than R5c RAW files, the difference imo is night and day as it should be. The same for details compared to R5c is just worlds apart. BMD does not allow you to use 2x lens, zooming 2x with the 24mm lens the quality is quite bad (very blotchy, full hd at max). I did not test yet with the apple camera and the 2x “cropped” lens to see if is better. No Log + Cinematic in either Apple Camera or BMD H265+Log is a good compromise size vs. Quality and you can record all fps internally. 120mm lens I find it a bit better quality than the 77mm of the 13, and a more useful focal range for what I normally cover. I have BMD set to save to Files, then I connect a USB-C CFexpress or SSD and move the files in Files, is the quickest and easier method for PC users. Much better that the previous phone that was a nightmare to get the footage out from a PC. Action button is useful as you can set to start or even start recording in the BMD. Still need to get use to the BMD UI, with no hw button/wheels changing things rapidly is a bit of a pain for me. Overall, with Log and the 120mm is big update and I will use it even more than my previous phone, especially as B or C cam. Using it as a main camera is a big stretch and I think I will be mostly disappointed. Frame grab 4k Log 120mm.
  10. What cinema lens do you have or do you rent? What mount and frame coverage are they?
  11. For some sports yes and for some others not especially if you lose light sensitivity. Plus another issue is the base iso 250, for example for motorsport I may take a picture at ISO 50, 1/30, F18-F22 for panning and 5 sec later at 1/2000 for a frontal shot or an accident. No time for fiddling with NDs.... same for MTB, Cycling, Skiing etc...
  12. Nikon has ditched the mechanical shutter on Z9 and Z8 and they are not using GS….
  13. BMD was released before iPhone 15… it gives much more options that the default camera does not offer. iFilmic exists since long time although now just priced crazy. BMD is just better plus is free. Bottomline the only difference than 15 Pro offers is Log why should BMD not offer all the other features to all the iPhone users?
  14. I guess that having BMD app "Save clip to" to Files and using the Files app to copy/move to an external USB-C SDD/Card would be the quickest way. Alternatively you could set BM app to save on in-app and photo library (waste of space) and these filles will should show up when you connect your iPhone to PC.
  15. In Switzerland you can buy a new R3 for around 4700 EURO.... (add 12% more for France sales tax) it would be around 5k... 5k for a used one is way too much
  16. It is not, is par focal by software, so it uses the AF motor to compensate
  17. This lens seems very interesting for videographers and event photographers. It is similar in size as the EF 70-200 2.8 and a tad lighter, for people used to shoot with an EF 70-200 2.8 it will feel the same. Sharpness from the MTF charts looks a tiny bit better than the RF 24-70 2.8. The power zoom, and I would say finally Canon did it on a FF lens, is a great addition and I wish other lenses would have had it already too. The only thing that does not make sense is the price of the power zoom accessory.... way too much. The fact that is not an internal power zoom (like the Sony 28-135 F4) is imo good as for photo and quick zooming the manual zoom will have the normal feeling and speed.
  18. Interesting video, camera budget 1200 usd, total budget 1’000’000 usd 😂😂

    DJI Pocket 3?

Yes there is only a few limited options for 4k240 .... RED and Blackmagic have models but are heavy crop, Freefly Ember but it is very specialized and expensive. If you have a sharp and high shutter speed image at 4k 120fps to start with Davinci Resolve 18 with retime: OpticalFlow and motion estimation: Speed Wrap, does a quite good job interpolating frames, here a complex background and movement example that I tried a couple of weeks a ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5gxj6KVBoY Look at the horse tail for me is quite impressive.

    DJI Pocket 3?

In 2017 DJI had a 1 inch sensor with aperture control (2.8 to 11) on the Phantom 4 Pro that was really good, I'm not sure why they did not take that one and evolve it... it would have been quite practical for a DJI Osmo Pkt.
  21. I found a good test video of h265/LOG vs ProRes/LOG with the Blackmagic App.... for most cases you probably can get away with h265/LOG saving the clumsy SSD that defats a bit the concept of using a phone. Files are much smaller and you can do 4k 60p LOG internally.... good to have options https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpO06mdN7mk
  22. Now we are talking, the log footage seems very usable and night and day compared to the SDR over sharpend, oversaturated and too much NR. The skin tone and skin texture are much more natural... then if people want to create a plastic look out that I have no problem but the video really demonstrate that the starting image in log is indeed a big step up compared to the past. I'm still confused about the cinematic mode and log as many says that you can not have both at the same time but the above video clary use log with cinematic mode. Either is just BS or maybe the default camera app does not allow this but the Blackmagic one that seem to be used on the above video allows it. It would be nice to see if there is a any big difference in Blackmagic app h265/log vs ProRes/log.. I need to search if somebodies has already done this. Time to upgrade my iPhone....

    GoPro Hero12

Of course, I don’t judge the quality (hw, sw and video) from their stock price 🙂. But they are under enormous pressure to survive, it is not like being a private company. They did many miss steps so now they seem to be ripping off customers to try to stay afloat. Btw I was a GPRO stockholder. My first Gopro was Hero 2 and went up Hero 10. In parallel I started using insta360 cameras and now I’m Gopro free 😊 although I use sometime some of my customer’s ones as backup cameras. I filmed in harsh situations so my experience could be different than others. I have mounted on Rally Cars in Lapland and Africa, on wings of Military Jet, on desert's Buggy, Alaska Heliskiing, MTB etc.. The number of freezes, overheats, battery draining (enduro battery was made because the standard one was basically useless in winter conditions...wtf) that I had it was just so frustrating. Gopro Hero Max is so old that is insane that they still sell it and the software is ridiculously bad compared to the insta360 one. Gopro Mini, Session etc they still don’t know what to do… seems a trial and error approach Gopro 10 was probably the buggiest camera that I had from all the camera that I have owned. Just do a google search for freezes, overheats, battery drain... and you will see that I'm not the only one. And let’s not talk about their subscription model that they try to “lock you in” with hw discount hoping that you will not cancel a pretty useless subscription. I was a big gopro fan, but they failed so many times on me that I don’t trust them anymore. The 12 should have been a FW fix of the 11.. but as quoted company you need to bring more revenue and is a declining market too as form many a phone is a better solution than a gopro.

    GoPro Hero12

They are a standout in term of bugs and bugs that they fix only by releasing new hw.... and let not discuss their software.... and useless subscription model.... stock price tell you the whole story of mismanagement of a potential great company and cameras....
  25. Too me it looks like a too strong skin retouching filter... maybe to "sell" the diffusion filter they did use davinci or similar skin smoothing filters... it is wired as some parts are almost too sharp and others are blotchy and blurred... From 0:45 onwards is imo unusable. But as it use Cinematic so it cannot be Log so it is heavy processed already to start with. Not a fan of this kind of video but here the image from iPhone looks much better than the above one less plastic/fake
