I think Canon also removed the IBIS on the R5C. I would actually like that but for some it would definitely fall under the cripple hammer category.

Some really beautiful footage here from the R3. Will be interesting to see how Nikon's own raw files will compare. Thoughts on the camera by the guy who shot the video: No, this camera will not replace any dedicated video camera. The lack of proper video assist tools like built in ND, no false colour, waveform etc means that you do need to carry extra accessories to make it work. I also found the IBIS on this camera to be disappointing. Even inputting the correct focal length in IBIS resulted in shaky footage. You also can't use zebras and focus peaking at the same time which resulted in me missing focus for the last shot :(. This is still a hybrid camera with stills in mind. Quick test in 1080 also show extremely soft images. I would not recommend shooting 1080 in this camera at all unless it's for simple jobs or for fun. That being said, the 6k on this is... beautiful. My computer can't handle the 6k at all but the final file is gorgeous. I do find the shadows to be much noisier than my C70. Dynamic range is very pleasing and it's quite hard to completely blow out highlights unless you make a mistake or are in extreme situations (like the shot in the bus). The Canon FD primes worked wonders softening the digital edge on the sensor giving it a much more organic look. Files are detailed and rich. The raw is also very capable of making drastic white balance changes without destroying the image. Very happy with the results albeit was a pain for storage and editing.

Nokishita published the full spec sheet. It is a monster, a D3 and F5 moment. Records Prores HQ N-log internal as well. I wonder if the 4K will be a perfect downsampling of the full sensor though. Oh, and as previously reported - NO mechanical shutter.
-
There are so many early tests published already, 6K raw doesn't overheat after more than 2h of continuous recording.

If they don't miraculously fuck it up with 1dxiii/R6 levels of rolling shutter and overheating this is a day one purchase.

I'll go out on a limb and say that the Canon R5 is the most underrated HYBRID camera, especially after seeing how the A7sIII practically took over the Youtube circle jerk crowd in the blink of an eye. The R5 got rightfully panned because of the overheating failure and extremely poor marketing, but take another look at it now. It's a brilliant stills camera with great autofocus, colors and resolution and the shutter sound is subliminal. It's also a 10bit 422 video camera that I for the life of me can't get to overheat when recording 4K standard (which I know is softer which I actually prefer) and the s35 oversampled crop mode is rock solid, it doesn't overheat no matter how hot the ambient temperatures are. Still better colors than Sony, very good rolling shutter performance and a huge amount of glass if you are willing to use adapters. And it feels like a camera, the ergos are perfect.

@Django Does the R6 have the nice 1.3x crop as well, with less rolling shutter?
-
Yes but that is Prores raw with an external recorder which I absolutely hate.

Haha yeah someone definitely profited from my stupidity. I really hope they’ll add some pro cine features via firmware down the line but I’m not holding my breath. The option to turn off noise reduction should have been there from the start though.

For sure. I sold my barely used a7siii, at a 1k loss nonetheless, and preordered the more expensive FX3, planning to pair it with what looks like a superb compact zoom in the Sigma 28-70mm f2.8. I’m daft and economically irresponsible like that, but there’s something appealing in the size and shape of the body of the FX3, the active cooling and what I hope and imagine is a little more robust build (I never liked the a7-bodies and I only care for evf:s when it comes to photography).

I have a feeling it won't be a full frame sensor in that one.
-
Sorry but what sort of skin smoothening effect are you talking about? I know the early x-trans sensors were prone to this, in jpeg, but I haven't seen it in my X-T3 and X-T4. Is this something that is commonly seen in f-log? At what ISO? Can you send pictures? The magenta shift and overly sharpened images is what I feel are worse problems when it comes to Fujifilm video.

Z6 with N-log 10bit serious video flickering issue at certain ISOs
Simon Young replied to T.S's topic in Cameras
Though chances are slim, did anyone here buy a Z6ii and happen to know if the flickering issue is rectified with the second iteration? -
@Sage Seems like I will be buying your LUT:s after all 🙂 With regards to Fuji, is there a pre to convert eterna footage like the one you've made for cine d?
-
@Attila Bakos I imagine the results aren't as accurate as the Ghalex lut, but really cool if it speeds up multicam workflow in a meaningful way.
-
Would be interesting to know how Emotive Color stacks up against the new Cinematch plugin from the guys behind Filmconvert. From what I've seen it looks pretty promising...
-
@RogerRabbit How are those Viltrox's treating you?
-
That’s actually a big misconception since 10bit 422 footage was actually transcoded on the iPad Pro when importing it to the app just until today, when Lumafusion 2.4 came out, with native support of 10bit h265 footage.
-
@Oliver Daniel I'm in the same position, struggling with ediiting the R5 h265 natively. But this dude seems to be suggesting FCPX is working fine with the new M1-chips.
-
Please don’t post that kind of horrible scam here. Juan Melara already proved it, but unfortunately he has taken the video down. He used to give away a better version of the “Linny LUT” for free. https://*banned URL*/2018/01/lut-smash-showdown-colorist-reverse-engineers-607-linny-lut-free

I would imagine the overheating is because they want to use the higher fram rate modes.
-
@Geoff CB Yeah, I totally agree - the output of that 8-bit file from the Z6 is nothing short of amazing, but I still got rid of my camera because of the viewfinder delay in 4k and the lack of exposure tools. The weird flickering in the shadows when shooting 10-bit N-log is also a problem they still haven't fixed. But if the Z6ii manages to sort all of these things I might get it.

"I got less time on S35 in 4K50P than FF 4K50p (20min vs 30min), FF 4K50p/60p is not oversampled." @ntblowz I was thinking about s35 24/25p, which doesn't overheat.
