I have the Tiffen Variable ND Filter - after looking at lots of comparisons it's pretty sharp (important!) and the color tint isn't too bad (AWB takes care of it). I do recommend it, although you missed the rebate on it where it was like $60 USD a month or two back. I also have the Breakthrough 82mm filters in 10, 6 and 3 stop. FWIW, I'm still mainly using the Tiffen filters because it's much more convenient when running around, I hate changing filters. The Xume thing is a good idea but I'm not convinced the IQ is worth the extra hundreds for the Xume stuff (I haven't done any indepth comparisons but haven't really noticed anything different when using the Tiffen vs the breakthroughs - I know the breakthrough is "better" but for an interview it's practically unnoticeable). Plus I don't really like what it does to the WB, but maybe I'm just not used to it. The varibales are just so much more convenient, and it's really not that expensive for the Tiffen.

Key Light (Bowens Mount) Less Expensive Than Apurture?
scotchtape replied to Mark Romero 2's topic in Cameras
http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?353611-Mini-review-Godox-SL-60W-and-SL-200W-(kind-of-compared-to-Nanguang-CN-30F) Has specific fans I used. If you don't need the firepower but only need soft light, 2x FL-3060 gets you about 3,000lux @ 1M when using diffuser panels and are about $300, but much lighter and smaller. Only draws 100W. Benefit is it's also bicolor and can be battery powered with additional adapters ($50) or DIY. -
Key Light (Bowens Mount) Less Expensive Than Apurture?

Godox sl-200w if you mod the fans. About $400 all in. No battery power though, but 200w and Bowens mount. I have a post on this on dvxuser lighting section with the specific fans used. Without fan mod its a bit loud for interviews for my taste, although you can filter it out using audition. After fan mod it's acceptable. I'm using aputure 300dainly but the godox is 1/3 the price and 80% of the light... Bare @ 1m I measured about 6000lux. With included reflector was about 18,000 lux. Soft box of course much lower, with shower curtain frost can get almost 4k lux, Very similar if not the same light as the pics pros but includes the remote. -

Anybody used a "Line to Mic Attenuator Cable" on the GH5?
scotchtape replied to JDW's topic in Cameras
Honestly in all my years of rigging up ridiculous adapters the only time I've ever heard of that stuff needing serious attention is connecting speakers to an amplifier. The worst case scenario using that cable with your recorder is that it won't be the absolute best sound quality which you would never notice anyways considering the preamps in the gh5. I'm not saying it doesn't matter but with consumer level electronics there's no much that can go wrong I don't know the specs for zoom h6 -

I've used one from Zoom H6 to GH5. Works fine. One of these, not sure which one. I think -35db https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GW69IQ2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 -
No no no no no to 35-100mm... Have you ever used this lens? The ois is absolutely worse than useless for video because of the micro jitters or in the case of V2 the shakes when panning. IF someone made a decent 35-100 f2.8 with ois, m43 without Ibis would be palatable for those needing IS. As it is there is no good 35-100 lens with IS for video.

Sony A7R III review - the BBC fixed Sony's colour!
scotchtape replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
@wolf33d generally speaking the Sony FF system is way heavier than mft because the lenses are crazy heavy. Panasonic 35-100mm is half the weight of sony 70-200. You can put gh5+35-100mm on single handed gimbal. Try doing that with the a7+70-200!!! No single handed gimbal can balance that usefully. I am waiting for a7siii though, really want that sweet af-c trying to score a helix let us so I can use the 70-200 as well. -
Honestly if panny just fixed their damn 35-100mm f2.8 ois and released a 7-14mm f2.8 with ois (that works)... Then no ibis would be easier for me to deal with. Looking forward to all the tests and reviews, low light looking great.
-
Welp... No ibis means the 35-100 is useless again unless locked off. I could really use that low light performance gain but I don't think I can give up ibis Besides that it sounds awesome. Wish they could fit those heat sinks in... Maybe next next year!

C300 not a "travel" camera

Yes I have owned the A6500 since it came out, I have used it on a job and got OH warning, I know you can use it for longer but I'm getting paid to keep shooting and not babysit the cameras temperature. So yeah I guess I'm wrong... as are the many youtube videos showing the overheat, we are all wrong A6500 is not a pro camera though you can get nice images out of it. I use GH5 instead.
-
A6500 has bad rolling shutter but good af-c. Also horrible battery life and overheats after a while. Sharpest 4k, no flip screen. 1080p trash. G85 is ok but af-c is trash. Flip screen. Smaller lenses, less dof. Low light not great. Get gh5 4k60p but af-c is useless, not as good low light because of sensor size. Just depends on what great quality means to you and what you are using it for. For "real" landscape photos I use FF with good Dr sensor. For casual use I just bring rx100. You can make great videos with any of those cameras, at that level the content is more important than which one of those you use.

What are you putting on it? Manfrotto 535 and 536 are pretty cost effective used, good height For lighter weight I'm using benro com series tripods with cheap after market bowl adapters for 100/75mm. Got benro on clearance from bh for around $220!

Free reshoot out of your pocket if you want to keep your rep. Mistakes happen, and sometimes you have to pay for them.

I don't think gimbal without IS will yield good results, especially at that focal length. Fwiw I use the 35-100 v1 and gh5 with zhiyun crane frequently and with dual IS it yields decent results. The crane could use some tweaking for increased smoothness though. Great for compressing those cityscape shots and tracking distant objects. Stupid horrible V2. Only good for photos, which I don't need since I use FF instead. It's stupid but if you want to use this focal length on a gimbal use V1. It's quite useful depending on your style, otherwise you are really restricted to just static shots which is a shame.

I made a post on this months ago. I don't think you are doing anything wrong, can't believe the lack of posts on this. It was been sitting on the shelf ever since I bought it, waiting in vain for Panasonic to issue a firmware update which I assume they never will. Thank you for reminding me to put it up on CL. V1 works well with GH5 dual IS. V2 is terrible on everything I assume, including my GH5 with dual IS II... I still only use my V1s. Don't understand what they are thinking regarding this lens... Is is absolute trash for video that's for sure (unless you only point it in one direction and never move).

No message, nothing out of the ordinary happens except it stops. I use dual recording, I don't really have any other appropriate cards, and like the Lexar card issues, it happens out of the blue so there's no way to "test" it... (actually I guess the Lexar one happened pretty frequently so you could kind of test it).
-
I don't know if it's just me, but I have had this happen twice over the last two days now: press record, camera records for 1 second then stops. This did not happen prior to the V2 firmware update. I missed one take the other day, and had to restart an interview today (thankfully I noticed this only after a few minutes of beginning). These were shot on the 4K 150mbs 8 bit setting (as on original firmware) and sandisk extreme pro UHS-1 95mb/s (again, no problems before the update). Please make sure your red dot is on! Anyone know where to contact Panasonic directly about this?

Are you guys still transcoding? Any update for Oct 2017? I was editing GH5 footage on my ancient i5-2600K - it was unbearable but I just assumed it was because of the ancient processor and GPU (GTX 770), not to mention regular HDD. I finally upgraded to Threadripper 1950X and 1080ti, footage on M2 drives. STILL getting some lag in the timeline in premiere (using 4K 8bit 150mbs 24p and 4K 60fps 8 bit 150mbs). I mean, I can actually edit now which is great, and playback is way smoother, but still stutters bad sometimes and doesn't catch up. I'm using 1/2 resolution or 1/4, doesn't really seem to make a difference. Is it just the way premiere reads GH5 footage?

Lots on eBay but frequency range varies so you have to be patient.

I'm confused, do you just set up and stay in one position when you are shooting? Are you doing this all by yourself? Do you feel comfortable leaving a $700 recorder near the mixing desk while you move around? This is why I use a $100 option as a omb. You understand when you do this the mixer is the preamp right? So you can send line level signals to the recorder... Also... If you are using saramonic mics do you really need an expensive recorder? I'm not sure those sound very good. Your plan to use the dr70d as a preamp to your dslr is a bit flawed in practice... All of those recorders in that price range have really bad outputs, like terribad, especially the headphone outs on the tascam stuff. The zooms are not much better. You can try and use the lineouts and then an antennuation cable. That is why if you want to do this you are better off using the mix pre, they actually have decent outputs. I don't even know if the f4 has good outputs for this purpose either but probably way better than the cheaper stuff. Even the juicedlink is better going direct to camera. Also are you running around with all of this on a shoulder mount? How are you even setting up your mics, mounted to your rig?
-
Is this for interview work? Pretty much anything in that price range (around $350) is the same. Zoom H5 and H6 have better battery life I think, if that is important to you. If you can afford it check out the Sound Devices mixpre 3 or 6. That's what I'm looking at even though it is overkill for most corporate gigs. IF you aren't getting paid much, even recording directly to the camera using a JL box is fine especially if you are using a backing track in the final. For getting a feed I've used old Zoom H2s in the past and it was fine. I have switched to Tascam DR-40s for this task as they directly take XLR feeds with adequate quality and a backup track. Best thing is they only cost $100 used now...

Every system has uwa. You can use 7-14mm Panasonic or Olympus ...
