The Black Friday deal that I want this year is...
webrunner5 replied to Jadesroom's topic in Cameras
How do you know how I travel? I am retired. I can go Anyplace I want, when I want. And I do. You can buy a used FS5 for 2500 bucks or less now. Why would you rent one? They are as cheap as a new EOS-R. Someone on here found one for me for 2200 bucks a week ago. -

This is a listing of all the cameras they rent, it is just one of the rental houses I go to often that are the same. They don't list Varicams, and don't have one in house. They are just not popular in this area. So I am not making this shit up like you imply. So maybe where you live they sell or rent like hotcakes. But not in this part of the Midwest. And they shoot a surprisingly amount of Movies, B footage here in the Cincinnati area. It is cheaper to do it here for one reason. http://www.thecameradept.com/digital-cinema-cameras/ -

Speaking of higher end film, movie cameras. Interesting collection of graphs about the Movie Industry. https://www.statista.com/topics/964/film/ -
Well there is the Biotar 75mm f/1.5, but it is like 2500 bucks.

But I am sure in larger markets than I live in they are happily put to good use. So yeah you probably see more than I would. I am even seeing fewer and fewer Reds around here also. Some of these hybrids are probably putting out good enough output for less money intense jobs. I do know the new Sony FS7 mk II is one of the hot movers around here now on the lower end.. -

Yeah right they are selling the hell out of them. Sure they are. Yeah I see them every where I go. I don't see them in even the rental houses here. -

That is sort of why I kind of think this Panny S1, S1R thing may bomb. Panasonic does know how to do video, but they have had very little luck breaking into the higher end market. The Varicam 35, Varicam LT 4K is really great cameras, but heck probably a flop sales wise. Then there is the EVA1, AF100 versions, all great cameras, but not hot sellers either. They don't seem to be able to get any traction toward Sony, but then not many cameras really can. Canon's C line initial pricing has really hurt them sales wise. They do have some good 1/2" ENG camera solutions over the years, and a lot of great smaller camcorders in years past, especially the P2 ones. -

I was sort of thinking You need to cut the cord for writing that, and I Need to cut the cord for reading it. But I did learn a bit about stealth peanuts LoL. ? -

Yeah a steadicam is probably the better option than taking a 3 pound camera and trying to make it a 15 pound rig! ? -
Why not just display the microphone level on the recording screen?

Not a huge discount, but better than nothing. http://www.letus35.com/anamorphic-adapters/

Yeah I sort of thought that also LoL. No good way to match the a7s with the Canon C100 footage. But it really is too small for my hands. Now with the battery grip on it it is not too bad. But by the time I rig it out it looks like a Arri Alexa that was in a train wreck. So Main reason I want to go to a C100. I sort of still miss my Panny AF100 layout wise. The C100 is capable of being hand held at times, so I think it will be a better fit for me. And there is a lot of cheaper lenses for it over the a7s that have AF, the EF-S stuff is damn cheap. And the output is easier to work with. As I am in no real hurry shooting I think it is my best way to go. Now no photo capability, but nothing is perfect for all of it. Plus I want to start back doing some birding again, and the C100 with the crop is a way better fit for that I think. I have a Swivel Gimbal that I hope the C100 fits on? An older version of this one I have had for years. https://www.amazon.com/Benro-Carbon-Fiber-Gimbal-GH2C/dp/B00Z17RIN4/ref=sr_1_27?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1542900862&sr=1-27&keywords=swivel+gimbal

Yeah but isn't the EVA1 sort of Sony FS5 competition? B&H has the FS5 for $4,248.00 so I don't see how the EVA1 can sell for much more than the FS5 to be honest. And Sony probably sells 10x more FS5's than the EVA1 does. Although I think I would take the EVA1 over the FS5 output wise. I think the Variable ND is what sells the FS5. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1185424-REG/sony_pxw_fs5_xdcam_super_35.html -
Yeah but once you have the levels, switches set the way you want them how often do you really need to access it? You aren't going to change anything when you are rolling I would think. I am left handed, so most stuff to me is ass backwards anyways LoL. ?

This is a really good solution to 2 of my major concerns for not a lot of money. And really well thought out. And about as compact as you can make something.. -

Yeah their videos are a heck of a lot more thought out then the average, Oh I have to throw out a video every two days bunch. But it is more photo oriented than video, but that is changing more every year now. They are not afraid to be controvertible with reasonable proof to back it up.. -

Like I have stated before most of the footage you see on TV is shot on a full sized ENG, probably a Sony, and they weigh at least 17 pounds or more and you tell me how many times you have ever seen shaky, goofy looking stuff out of them. A lot of the time they are even walking backwards at a pretty good pace! And none of them has any kind of OIS or IBIS even now that I know of. There may be OIS ENG lenses by now? But I don't see one. Wow look at the price of this ENG lens. Christ. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1309404-REG/fujinon_ua80x9besm_e_digi_1_2_ext_ua80x9besm_e_digi_is_4k.html I know from experience that is it not that hard to do. But yeah granted you spend a Lot of time learning how to use them, it is your full time job, but that weight is what makes it happen. These light camera rigs, IBIS or not are not that conducive to rock solid output. But learning how to walk with them right helps. The heaver they are the less exaggerated you have to do the duck walk thing LoL. -
Oh I am not surprised it is pretty good. BMD has good Color Science that is for sure. And with ProRes, Raw it is a winner no doubt. Even at 12bit the Raw is some great stuff. And the bRaw thing ought to make it really useful. I still may look into it. You guys need to get some footage up on here for us to view. I sold my Sony a7s and all my Sony lenses, battery grip this week. So I am in the market LoL.

Yeah but at my age and "Eyes" I really sort of need some decent kind of AF if I want it. I won't even buy a C100 without it having DPAF. I really can't see the LCD, even Zebras that well without some kind of glasses on, which I don't wear, just reading glasses. So I would have to put them on to see the screen, take them off to see the scene. You get my point. I guess I could get some bifocals but still sort of a pain. Yeah I would like to try one I guess, the PK4, but probably the wrong time to try and get one if you didn't Pre Order. I think down the road when the dust settles down a person can probably buy one used for 800 bucks body only. Then I can go for that.

That might be true, but I am still looking I think at buying a Canon C100. Just a lot less hassle battery, buttons, memory space, and even grading wise.
