Likelihood Sony Will Give Us A New Codec Any Time Soon?
webrunner5 replied to Mark Romero 2's topic in Cameras
Some of this crazy stuff is not going to ever happen just because of the current Media costs. 99% of people have and do use SD cards. Mainly because you can go down the street and buy one. And they are cheap now. You are not going to talk the average person into using SSD's or CFast cards in their cameras to keep up with crazy data rates. Until there is some Amazing SD card breakthrough we are stuck with what we got like it or not. Even we can't afford super GB CFast cards. The PK4 is proof of that. So no I don''t see Sony using a Codec from a F55 in a Mirrorless. -
So with your mind set a Canon C100 is just a piece of shit because it is 8 bit. Any older camera is just crap.
-
So you are saying the Nikon Z7 beats a Sony A9? They cost just about the same.
-
I will admit Cinama5D is all over the place, but their DR rating to me are more realistic than most. DXO is all about Photos. Cinema5D is all about Video. Photo DR is always easily 1 1/2 stops to 2 stops higher than video DR because of Bit Depth. And yeah they have changed the way they test now from years ago. So it is not going to seem the same. They bought some really good, expensive as hell equipment to test it with now.
-
Looks kind of realistic to me for what they have tested. But I would need to see more cameras to be convinced. The Arri sounds about right in a real life situation. Most cameras are overrated, so no surprise. Sure Cinema5D may seem crazy. So does DXO at times. But the one thing they have going for them is they use the same test on Every camera they test. So are they real values? Maybe not. But they do show who is better and worse on their tests. Right or wrong they are all subjected to the same standards. So it will prove the best camera and the worse camera no matter the truthful outcome on DR stats. They are both controlled tests. So I can believe who is on top and who is not. And I don't think anyone on here can be surprised by the outcomes. Better Codecs, better Data rates, better Bit depths are going to be on top, old or new.

Canon EOS R first impressions - INSANE split personality camera
webrunner5 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I thought the colors and the content were great. But the camera movement, ehh not so much. I turned it off 3/4 the way though. But that is not really the cameras fault, well no IBIS, but.. -
Easy for anyone to suggest something. . But I would go C100 with the DPAF option, as the A cam, and keep the 80D for the B cam and use it for daily, personal use. On average you can use the same lenses on both and the Color Science will match. And Both will have DPAF. Win Win. Now if you Need 4K isn't going to work. But do you Really need 4k? 1080p on the C100 is as good as 4K on most cameras. The 80D, ehh not so much. No way the non native lenses you have will work good on the GH5 or the AF as good., not counting you will never match the CS to each. Not easy to go with two different manufacturers and have it work out well.

Well as I have stated it is probably the last camera out that I would buy if it was the Only camera I could afford. But I would assume since we are on this forum we are sort of on average pretty much into great looking footage. And I just don't see any camera that the average person on here can afford involves any camera but full blown older Cine cameras. FS700, PMW F3, C100, etc or pretty much any older BMD camera, BMPCC, BMCC. BMMPCC. I look at the PK4 as a gift. So warts or not it is a camera that can get the job done. Would I take it on a vacation, no, but if I am serious about this stuff, it is the thing to buy. It just depends on what you want to do. I have had Cine cameras, BMD cameras and they are ALL a pain in the ass. And I would think that is what the main goal on here is Great looking footage. But it all depends on what you need. So for me it is the PK4. If I was shooting my kids, going on vacation, sure the Fuji wins. But to say any of these Other cameras have a better output is just a day dream. They are not even close.
-
Well I will leave judgement overall when the Z6 comes out. But I am Not liking the Z7 Color Science one bit. The body and specs seem nice though.
-
From what I have seen from Canon, Nikon they Still don't have any competition in FF.
-
The video in this link look pretty good to me, especially since it is 120p. Maybe not true Canon colors, I think it actually is More realistic to be honest. I think Fuji colors are too hot to be honest. Along the lines of Olympus stuff. But YMMV. Now for Photos, I do like the Fuji CS. http://www.xdcam-user.com/2018/04/pxw-fs5-ii-secret-sauce-and-venice-colour-science/

I admit for an overall camera the Fuji X-T3 ticks a lot of boxes. But after I have seen the footage of the PK4, all 13 stops of it, the Fuji, along with most of the other new ones just sucks ass for video. For just everyday use hell yes the Fuji wins. But for serious stuff not too sure about that. Sure I would Not recommend the PK4 as the Only camera to have, but for video you are not beating the output of the PK4 for what money we have to spend. Now in controlled shots sure the X-T3 works, but outside with the sun shinning it is just not getting the job done, at least the way I have seen footage wise. So yeah like says @Alex Uzan, it has a lot of warts, but it has some pretty damn killer output, and for MY needs, wants that is the top reason to own it. @Alex Uzan

Out of likes. Wow that is some thick looking footage. Can't complain about that.
-
Correction. I was talking about the N, not the M. My Bad.
-
Yeah I noticed that at their showing at Photokina. The whole rig was torquing when they ran it through it's paces. I can see your concern.

Well with m4/3 you do have to think really wide and fast to sort of even out the plying field. But fortunately since you can adopt anything and m4/3 stuff on average is cheap used because there is so much of it around after 10 years, not counting 4/3 stuff it can be accomplished somewhat easily. Yep everyone has a different style, different needs. So m4/3 seems to cover more peoples needs than any format I think. I sort of miss it, but FF can be addictive. If I was doing Birding again, or into Sports I would be Back in a heartbeat, probably buy the Olympus EM1 mk II and the Panny 100-400mm..

The Bokeh is just too crazy for me most of the time on a Helios 44M-4. If you need it is the cats ass, but when you Don't need it it looks like the Cats butt-hole. ?

Canon EOS R first impressions - INSANE split personality camera
webrunner5 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Man they have gimped this camera 5 ways to hell LoL. Only Canon. -
Yeah but the Nikon is cheaper, but you are stuck with a one mount only lens.
-
I don't see how you are going to beat the Voigtlander Nokton 10.5mm f/0.95 for DoF on a m4/3 camera. There is this one if you use a Speedbooster. But it is not very wide on m4/3. And I see you don't like Heavy, sooo. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1162797-REG/sigma_24_35mm_f_2_dg_hsm.html

So on a PC you can export from the software either ProRes or CinemaDNG to your NLE?? I am trying to figure out how hard the workflow is. I am too old for crazy stuff LoL. ?
