No it's not. You can learn so much on there it is scary. Sure there is crap on it, but there is quality stuff also. Tons of it. And I help support 7 people through Patreon on it. Sort of like family. Sure it can be the worse thing and the best thing, But it isn't going away any time soon. i have no clue how they can keep up with server space on that site. It has to be a mind blowing setup. You do realize Google Owns You Tube.

Oh I agree. But they have improved a lot since even the Apple 6s Plus. I think a couple more versions and they will be up with low end DSLRs. They seem just to have so much more computing power than real cameras do. Folded optics will be the next big thing. Then they will have zoom lenses. Heck I can't believe what my Apple watch is capable of doing. Amazing stuff. All these new cameras are super nice for us. But I just don't see overall who is really going to buy thousands of them. Not when you have 5 company's doing FF stuff. That is not even figuring in Leica and this new Zeiss. They don't make much sense for the average person anymore.

Ask and you shall receive! Looks no better or worse to me. Interesting. But it is a really nice video..

This is very true. Would like to have one myself. But they Need to go 10 bit on it to make it really sing.

Well hell who wouldn't want a Arri Alexa over it. But is it on here going to look 5 times better. Twice as better? Your telling me you can't make a nice short with Gunpowder with a Smartphone in 4K? You surely have the skill and imagination to make that happen. I think I would be pretty proud to take a "inferior" device and make it sing as they say. I don't think the expensive cameras make shit for difference much anymore. The BMPCC proved that. You can buy them for 350 bucks today, even with some accessories. I doubt the Oly EM mk III will out do it. And it has a wimpy ass little sensor crop area in it even compared to m4/3. I doubt Any of these new cameras FF, APSC out will out do it, even maybe the PK4 can't. That is to be seen. I am just stating we have all, including me, have went off the deep edge on all these, I have to have a better camera thing. Sure a few, very few on here make a living doing it, most don't even own them, the company they work for does. And most of the rest left Ain't buying a Arri no matter how old it is. So for shits and giggles, what probably the vast majority on here do, a Smartphone, a BMPCC works. And that is how it is plain and simple. Skill trumps any damn better camera. We are in a no excuses world for video. Anyone with skill can make it happen, even with a Smartphone if that is all they have.

This is not 2008 anymore. 4K is 4K, I don't care what the hell it is shot on. The average person doesn't even know what the hell DR even is. 3/4 the people on here acts like Netflix is going to pick them up. Good luck with that happening. Shoot something, anything with anything and be happy. You have in your pants pocket 90% of what you ever need camera wise. Made it so. Jesus like a bunch of little kids on here. OHH I'm going to buy this, no I am going to buy that. Ohh I will wait until next year when the Panasonic FF comes out, Yeah right. They haven't made a camera in the last 6 years you can't make a feature movie with, including a Smartphone. Make it so. You can buy Cine cameras you could only dream of for less money now than most of there new Mirrorless stuff is. Make it so. This whole forum is turned into a QVC shopping channel. Shoot something, Christ.

And you move all of it down to Rec.709 with 5 stops of DR. Big deal. They have 50mm lenses in them also, and like has been said you can do it in post. Hell you can do Anything in post these days. Oh so you are going to carry the Oly EM mk III in your pocket? And you think a iPhone 8, or X is huge, what you have one of those flip phones from the 80's? How big is the sensor in a BMPCC? Oh I guess they are shit because it is small? Your just being silly.

Yeah the original Pocket camera is a Very special camera. I see little of it in this new one. but time will tell. I don't think other than some 9000 dollar camera anything can beat the original one. They are that good if you have the skill. And in reality it wasn't that hard to do. There is LOTS of good stuff from them on the web.

Oh no doubt the lenses are bigger. But for video like we are mostly going to use a camera for we are not going to use many long lenses and you don't even need to have really fast aperture lenses on FF to stay even DoF wide to m4/3. They all have their uses. But I really can't go back after doing FF again. Sure if I was lugging a Canon 5D mk IV with a battery grip on it I am not a happy camper that is for sure. And this is the lens I use the most for just walking around. It is not that much bigger. https://camerasize.com/compact/#673.336,579.396,ha,t

Yeah but the Sony A7 series have Clear Zoom and that is in essence doubling the focal length with no real loss, and you can always switch to the crop mode and get a 1.5 crop in s35. These Sony cameras have some damn nice features on them that make them more versatile than people think. No way I am changing from them. I will keep buying the older, better ones to me for a great price.. And size wise I have owned a bunch of both Panasonic and Olympus bodies, and other than my Oly EPL1, none of them are really any smaller than all my A7's I have had and still do own. Even with my battery grip on it my A7s is not any bigger than my Oly EM1 was with the grip on it. in fact my Sony is Smaller. I bet even the Fuji X-T3 is as small and maybe smaller. Times have changed. https://camerasize.com/compare/#482,548

So is the Olympus EM1 the Only Olympus camera that has PDAF in it?? You can buy the original EM1 for a little over 400 dollars now. A real bargain. Now it is not a very great video machine like the newer one is.

Ahh you must be new, hell you are, welcome aboard. Great way to start off. Super good info. Now we are Really informed. My day is complete. But since I am such a nice guy I'll send you one of the extra Arri Alexa's I got for mentioning them. Heck maybe I will send you the Gimbal I said I will BUY. No freebee on that cheap ass thing. I only get 50 thousand dollar stuff free. Guess the cheap stuff is not a big enough write off for them. ☹️

Well I have looked all over for DR on the mk III and the best I can find is for photo, and even that is pretty low. SO I would bet the Video DR on it is no better than 10 tops. The new iPhones and the Samsungs all had a DoF thingy now that works pretty well. Low light, we are not talking A7s stuff here with a m4/3 sensor in this camera. I think, to me it is a no go. Pass. Hell you can't even make a phone call on it. ? Sure on vacation you can throw it in your wife's purse and away you go, but to use on a daily basis, nah. Phones have Really gotten pretty damn good. http://www.photonstophotos.net/Charts/PDR.htm#Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II,Olympus OM-D E-M10,Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III

I just looked up on You Tube at footage on the mk III and on average it looks no better to me than any modern Smartphone footage, other than maybe low light stuff. Now the video Andrew did was damn good, but he could have damn near done that with his cellphone also. I just don't see it. I'll stay with my iPhone X. Like I said in another thread, I just don't see most m4/3 cameras anymore as a great buy. And I don't know how long this thing has been out, but this is one hell of a Gimbal for a phone. And it is cheap and light. Pretty amazing. I think I will buy one. https://tiffen.com/steadicamvolt/

I think it is way to early to say how the new PK4 really looks. I think the Concert video on the previous page looked pretty damn good. And I don't think it is fair to compare it to the original Pocket using 4K. But yeah I have been a bit underwhelmed also. But for the money I see it as a no brainer. With the BRaw thingy it will be a pretty powerful tool. But it really is not that much cheaper now than you can get a new GH5 for or the Fuji X-T3. So it is not as good of a bargain as it started out being. It's not like you can't do ProRes with a GH5, GH5s if you Want that to happen. I think if you are really serious about this stuff you would probably have the new Atomos Ninja V anyway, even just for as a monitor. Probably in truth going to need one for the PK4 to be able to see a screen outdoors.. But it is nice to have all these choices at a reasonable price point these days.

You make a very good point, but then you are getting away from native lenses, and particularly Panasonic can't focus it own native lenses worth crap, let alone a Nikon or Canon lens on a SB. Sure MF works fine and that is a plus. But then there are plenty of cheaper Cine lenses that are already fast and wide with a MFT mount. But the draw of a small, light camera has gone out the door since the Sony A7 came out. Most good Panasonic bodies for video are as big as DSLR's anymore. Even the G9 is a Moose. I can take my A7s and put my 55mm f2.0 Super-Takumar on it and be as small as nearly any m4/3 camera. And I can set it to say f5.6 at infinity and never have to touch it focus wise unless I am taking shots of really close stuff. But yeah the new Olympus EM10 mk III does seem like a good option for the money I can't argue about that camera. I am not saying m4/3 is useless at all. It is I am just not going to buy any new ones or lenses anymore. I would go the Fuji X-T3 route now over m4/3. I personally don't see the advantage they have now, the GH5, GH5s is an exception on the video side, unless you are into birding, sports. Then something like the Oly 300mm, or the Panny 100-400mm on a EM1 mk II makes a lot of sense, at least to me.
-
Yeah but you can buy the original A7 for 750 bucks new at times. Used for less than 600. If you are just doing photos, occasional video are you going to buy a m4/3 over it??
-
Yeah grading is not so hot on the PK4, at least to me. Too green. Neither of these cameras are going to win a focus award!
-
Wow tough choice. Some things one is better, then it is worse. Highlight roll off wins on the PK4. A lot depends on the grading skills. I am sure the GH5 is less of a hassle though. Doesn't look like they would be too good as a A and B camera together. Not unless the GH5 is being recorded in ProRes.No surprise on that point though. I am pretty sure with good Coloring skills the PK4 would be the winner, but how many have that ability. Somehow the original BMPCC seemed more goof proof to get it somewhat right. I think this looks a bit harder to do. It just seems to lack something. But way too early to tell. I am sure there will be tweeks to it from BMD. For the money it still is hard to beat, but at a slower pace than some of the new kids on the block. The XT3 looks like the winner for a fast turn around. Boy if it just had IBIS in it.
