  1. Each division of lenses has a Look whether you like it or not. You can not make a 105mm lens look like a 24mm lens and vice versa no matter if you move forward or backwards. Crazy talk. And a 50mm really has no Look to it that is different than what We see. So it is pretty plain looking in reality. It has nothing unexpected to it, good or bad. Wide angles un compress the back ground, and telephoto lenses compress them. Simple as that.
  2. My son and I were at Best Buy a few days ago and they had a few OLED HDR TV's there. Mostly Sony and LG. And they were definitely a stand out compared to the "normal" TV's there. Buty the cheapest one that was really worth having was a Sony 55" and it was over 2000.00. Most of the better ones were over 3000.00. But they were pretty big, like 60 to 72". They were damn impressive though, I will say that. There was no doubt you were looking at something pretty special.
  3. Rec. 2020 requires 10 bit or better. A Lot of these new cameras are not doing 10 bit, let alone 1080p 10 bit. Only 4k 10 bit. Sure you can do an external recorder, but then you are back to a big, bulky rig.
  4. Yeah these newer Smartphones are nothing to sneeze at anymore. You are hard pressed to take photos any better quickly with a APSC camera with an equivalent lens. They are almost fool proof anymore. For 98% of the people in the world a real camera is a total waste of time. They will get better results out of the Phone. They have really moved the ball down the field as they say with Smartphones. We would have 3000 dollar Arri Alexa's by now if all that tech was applied to Cine Cameras. Smartphones are scary good anymore.
  5. The Sigma Art series is the one that can focus manually in the 18-35mm.
  6. Well I think those Clutch Olympus lenses Have to be the way to go for video. Panasonic, Olympus are Not noted for killer AF in video mode! Hey your getting smarter by the minute LoL. Good move. But it still is not wide enough to me. But I realize you have to start someplace. I would rather have the Olympus 12-40mm f/2.8
  7. The Only reliable autofocus as narrative filmmaking is a Canon, newer one with DPAF. Sure the Sony, Panny ones with touch screen work, but that is not easy to do solo compared to trusting the camera. This is why there is really not a great, one camera does it all thing. But if not doing run n gun I guess about anything works, but one screw up, early in a film and your goose is cooked for the rest of the film. People will be looking for it and not the story line.
  8. That set up will not focus for shit in video mode. And with a fly by wire lens, hmm. I think you are going to be disapointed unless it is static stuff, or far away shots at f5.6 in manual mode. AF sucks pretty much on Any camera in video mode, let alone non native adapted stuff.
  9. Uhh, the G85 has a 2x crop factor. So that 18-35 is really going to be a 36-70mm lens. That is a far cry from what you are stating.
  10. Hmm that is not very wide and it won't focus as fast. But it is a fast lens no doubt. That Pana-Leica 10-25mm f1.7 will probably be 2000 bucks. Just buy cheap stuff LoL. Fly by wire lens suck for focus anyways. Just have a good kit lens and be happy. The beauty of Mirrorless is that you can adapt about anything you find on them.
  11. I don't know what lenses you are planing to buy but I can tell you the newest 14-140mm, the satin black one that was a kit lens on the G7, is a crazy sharp, fast focusing lens for what it is. They have made 3 different 14-140mm's. Get the latest one. It is the only native lens you need for video other than a really wide one to start with. At first you can just use cheap MF adapted ones for 35 bucks.
  12. I think that price is Just the deposit price!! "starting at $7995 USD"
  13. I would have a 28mm f1.8 if it was the down to one prime. Sure a 24-70mm f2.8 would work as the only zoom. Any faster and they would be huge.
  14. Oh you made a really good choice with the G85. It has made some really good videos on here. It really is all you need to get the job done. Great at photos also. All these newer cameras test the people skills more than the camera skills. ?
  15. I had a G7 myself. Great camera for the money. And I would guess, yes that is the reason it is more popular. It was for me. Sure the IBIS is great to have but with the difference you can have the G7 and a half decent lens. But sure the G85 is on paper a better camera, especially for video. But then a BMPCC is even better for video, and now we don't hear crap about it either. Not going to get this look out of a G85.
  16. When was the last time someone mentioned a GH4 on this site? I find that interesting also. I guess they all became useless.
  17. Yeah but the Red can still do 4K and 2K, so that is an advantage. And has a ton of compression options. But I would say the F3 is better for pure 1080p, and a heck of a lot cheaper to buy.. But I would still pick a Canon C100 for 1080p if I didn't need broadcast quality.
  18. Yeah they are an awkward shape also. But built like a tank. They have become a bit long in the tooth no doubt. But the Mysterium X does still produce a nice output, even today.
  19. Not sure if this has been posted?? https://www.videomaker.com/news/heres-how-you-can-correct-barrel-distortion-on-your-mavic-2-pro/
  20. Yeah it weighs 7.7 Kg/16.9 lbs. But that is about the same weight the old ENG cameras I used weighed. And I hand held them for hours at times. I had some rigs that were 23 pounds with double batteries, video light, not counting the light battery on my waist. Oh then you had to carry the tripod and the Portabrace case! Lovely job in the dead of summer, and walking backward at a good clip on an Icy sidewalk with a 100 Thousand Dollar camera on your shoulder.. Oh what fun. But I loved it at the time. Just didn't pay enough. So sure the Arri is big, but man the output is worth the burden. Heck of a kit here for 9 grand. Your talking a Big Boy Toy. https://www.ebay.com/itm/ARRI-Alexa-Classic-EV-High-Speed-Camera-Bundle-w-AKS-and-Innerspace-Case/173566743036?hash=item28696251fc%3Ag%3AtE8AAOSwHWtbsoZg&LH_BIN=1
  21. Both zooms I have do. But neither are that fast, so.. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1082052-REG/sony_sel1635z_vario_tessar_t_e_16_35mm.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1015472-REG/sony_sel2870_fe_28_70mm_f_3_5_5_6_oss.html
  22. I somewhat agree with you. But both Apple and Samsung are sort of constrained by total cost of the product, which by the way I think they have hit now. Over a 1000 bucks is a bridge too far for the vast majority of people, even me. But Red customers are probably willing to pay as much for a add on Gizmo as the whole phone costs to get better results. So they will have that edge on the competition. I am sure it will be somewhat of a shitty phone with damn good photo, video capabilities in the long run. Like everything, it has trade offs. It sure looks easier to hold than most phones, I will give them that. Looks like no case needed.
  23. Canon C100 mk III with 4k, no crop, QPAF and for 3800 bucks. I don't care if it is not 10 bit. ?
