Yeah I think the playing field has leveled in the last few years on color. Everyone seems to be copping Canon color, maybe even surpassing them as of late. I think the new Venice color is more Canon'ish than Canon to be honest.

It is because most cameras, and probably the GH5, like most cameras, has a higher bit rate for photos than video. It is probably 12 bit, some cameras are 14, even 16 bit in photo mode.

I can put EF lenses on my Sony A7s. Same thing. Hey I am not knocking Canon, hell I think I just bought a C100. Will know in a few days. My son has a 5D mk III, Canon Rebel. They all get the job done. When I bought my Sony A7 I never owned a Sony lens for it for 2 years. Couldn't afford it. When any new camera comes out with all new lenses it is a ball buster to afford to start from scratch. The Nikon Z6, Z7, this new Panasonic FF, all will be the same. Look at all theses people talking about the XT3, they are going to whipping out some cash too for a new system. Nobody ever said video was cheap. Especially if you want the latest toys. The trouble is with the new toys you don't have any excuse if your footage sucks in this day and age!

Which one of these Cheap Canon lenses you going to buy? Cheapest one is 500 bucks. No used ones either. But I don't see Any company giving away lenses as of late. I would have killed for a 3:2 ratio when I was shooting with a Hasselblad. Other than shooting CD covers 6x6 film was sort of a pretty crazy idea in the long run.

Well I think some of this push for higher resolution is due to all these new action movies that require massive amounts of VFX. Hell it won't be long they will have digital actors. If you want a great looking 4K output you sure aren't going to get that with heavy processing in post shooting in 4K. Not counting you can digitally zoom, on and on. It is going forward like it or not. I think that is why there is such a push as of late for FF Cine cameras. I doubt you can cram 8K on a s35 sensor with any good looking output..

Very true. But I thought the only crop was at 120fps 1080p, but below something like 100fps or so, the full width of the sensor is used to downsample to 1080p?

Yeah but that DR is for Photos. For video it is usually 1 stop less, maybe more. Photo mode usually has a higher bit rate.

Yeah but what a nice marriage it would be to have the Magic Lateran help aids along with BM Raw in a Canon that is rock stable dependable. Not that would be some nice stuff for the older consumer cameras. I mean if ML can hack a Canon camera they sure as hell can figure out how to do this BM Raw thingy. Since it is a open Codec what is to stop them.
