Google data shows HUGE decline of interest in Canon 5D series
webrunner5 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yeah but Cameras, Lenses, Printers, Copiers, Medical Equipment are most of Canon's business. Hell all of them are a thing of the past other than the Medical stuff! I think they are in deep shit down the road. Yeah I agree the design was mostly to showcase how good Japanese engineering is to be able to make a FF camera that small also. They have always prided themselves on miniaturization. And yeah I don't think ANYONE dreamed consumer video was going to take off like it has. -
Plus with the Crop Mode in the A7 series stuff it is like having whole new camera to work with. I use it a lot just to get a different look, not so much as a zoom tool. But great at that also. And the hack out for them is a god send for more reasons than the recording limit.

Google data shows HUGE decline of interest in Canon 5D series

I think in a sense Sony screwed themselves by making the A7 series bodies, even the A6000, to the A6500 so damn small. They overheat now, let alone if they had a Really good Codec in them. Probably what is holding up the A7s mk III. Maybe Nikon will have hit the Sweet Spot? But I don't really want one much bigger. Sony ruined me LoL. -
Google glass was obviously a failure because woman complained that people were using them in the Restrooms. Not Google's fault. It was mostly a privacy issue here in the USA that they failed.
-
You must of had the only one they ever made LoL. I have never seen one, and I had several Minox cameras!

Interesting article on that hard drive subject. https://www.macworld.com/article/2039427/how-fast-is-usb-3-0-really-.html

I just got rid of my Samsung Note 8. I had the Note 2, Note 4 and the Note 8. Lots of trouble with the Note 4. Batteries mostly. I really never used the stylus much so why have a phone that big? And there is just so much crap ware that Samsung has now on their phones. And in the US they have the processors you can't hack. I hate that LoL. I enjoy hacking shit. I feel like it is really mine when I do! So yeah I am done with Samsung. Never really thought the "normal" ones were worth having. Brought nothing to the table as they say. I have my Apple iPhone X mostly for camera, video apps, and Facetime for my children, grand children. Apple SE sits in a drawer. iPad Pro in my Camera Bag as a monitor, remote app thingy..

Google data shows HUGE decline of interest in Canon 5D series

Well I think there has been decline in 5D mk anything sales. Did You buy a new 5D mk IV? Did Anyone on here?? I sure as hell didn't! Everyone in the world bought a 5D mk II new or used. I think the 5D mk IV was not, and is not a great seller. Oh then there is the 6D mk II, no clue what Canon was thinking? Canon color science to me is not even a needle mover anymore. Panasonic, Sony have pretty much copied it as close as you can legally get, and that just pretty much leaves DPAF as their only "great" thing for sales. And Sony is no slouch now with the A9 and the A7 mk III with AF. And if Canon goes to another mount they will be at square one on that for lenses that are optimized for the body. I think Canon Needs to have a mirrorless that just uses their existing EF lenses. A Mirrorless body like the Sigma SD H is. No more new mount. Nikon, well I don't think they had a choice. And like Mercer said, I think they are all pretty much screwed. Canon is not safe at all no matter what they do. All these company's probably made more money on P&S cameras than their bigger stuff. And that market is done, finished! I live in a small college town and I can't even remember Anyone having a real camera but me in the last couple of years up here. Even the parents when they come use Smartphones. I have no clue who they think they are going to sell all these high end stuff to? It sure is not going to be young people. And for people that Just use a camera for Photography, and hell probably 90% do, what is a mirrorless camera from Canon, Nikon really going to bring to them shooting photos worth kind of starting over? Has there been anything other than say face detection, IBIS, anything worth talking about to take a Picture? And Smartphones already have that, even the DoF thingy. Other than this big push for a 6K Cine Camera in a box, a small box, for 500 dollars we want I think the whole camera industry is wasting their time. It is over for them. This is 2018. Cameras Are pretty much irrelevant, all of them in any real quantity. -
Google data shows HUGE decline of interest in Canon 5D series
webrunner5 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Ahh that makes sense. Yeah no doubt Canon is worldwide associated as the Camera to have good or bad. I don't know what to make of Digital cameras anymore. I guess these new Mirrorless cameras will give Canon, especially Nikon a shot in the arm. I really only see Sony, Panasonic innovating at any big scale. Now I am sure Sony sales are pretty good for them. I think Panasonic has surges, but no real forward momentum. The GH5s seems like a great camera but I bet they haven't sold hardly any of them. It is like the GH5 is already flat to me. Like they Need the GH6 out tomorrow! That new Fuji seems dead in the water, at least on here. I pity all these manufacturers. We seem to Demand some amazing breakthrough every 6 months and a better camera every 3 months LoL. I just don't see how all of them are going to make a buck. -

I would bet this new BM P4K will kick Anything Canon has, and brings out under 8000 bucks hands down. Won't be as slick to operate, but output wise, You know it will win. Hell the little BMPCC can have as good or better output now. Did you see that Video I just put up, not mine, in the Blackmagic Sub Forum. Hell no Canon can do that. -
BlackMagic eGPU - Yes, I Know It's Mentioned In Other Threads... BUT!
webrunner5 replied to DBounce's topic in Cameras
I am sort of baffled why BM only made this One version of the eGPU with a lackluster GPU in it. WTF! What the architecture of the Laptop can't handle the throughput?? And then it's AC powered. So kind of irrelevant for portable use. This is sort of a Polished Turd. ? -

Crushes, wow that is a pretty over the top statement. Using ML it might. But hell Canon didn't have shit to do with that. And how many people even use it. @mercer is the only one left that isn't banned on here still using it!! ? I don't think Canon is "crushing" anything as of late video wise. 5D mk IV, C700, M50, ehh not my idea of leading the pack. Sort of middle of the Pack. Lackluster sales at best on them. C200 might be a bright spot, but not if you Have to Have that middle codec. And well you sort of do! Raw is not really a great alternative All the time you need a broadcast Codec. But it is a nice camera, not saying it isn't. Just why did they not go that extra Codec, why! We know why, but why not. And you Know Canon will F up this new mirrorless someway. They are not going to get it right on the first try no matter how hard they try. Nikon either. They both have a Ton of stuff to implement they have never really done before. I don't envy them I will tell you that. And add new lenses to the mix, Wow. -

All the above is true. But none of it makes me think of using a Apple Laptop to do it using power hungry Codecs. Apple just seems to me to be on some suicide mission with video lately. They are becoming irrelevant in it with their design over usefulness thing. -
Found it when looking for lens resolution. Makes total sense. So FF is not really any better than m4/3 for diffraction. Written by Paul De Bra on DPR. "As the sensor gets smaller the same DoF you need requires only a larger f-stop (smaller number) and diffraction also sets in at a larger f-stop. So it doesn't really matter what system you use: you will need a different f-stop and diffraction will be just as bad at the f-stop you need. When you use m43 say 60mm f/8 your DoF will be the same as a full (35mm) 120mm lens used at f/16. And diffraction will be the same as well. So it doesn't matter whether you use m43 or full frame. To get the same image you will use an f-stop that results in the same level of diffraction. It is because of this dilemma of getting more DoF versus keeping diffraction under control that techniques like focus stacking have been invented. To get more in focus without diffraction you need focus stacking. Whether you use a smaller or larger sensor has essentially no influence".

Top Gun: first feature film to be shot with a Sony VENICE?

Well I guess I had a Senior Moment as they say. ? 8mp Is basically 4K LoL. So yeah even 8K is 33.2 so I would say a hell of a lot of Nikon, Canon lenses should do that also. My bad. ☹️

I am sure almost all these high end Smartphones have the "Horsepower" in them to make them damn near a Cine camera. The idea what Red has with the port on the back is the way to go. Just put a module on it and you have cubed or more your ability for better output in a heartbeat. Even a sensor twice the original size with a lens to match it is instant 4x better. Which works out as a least twice as good. This stuff could get damn interesting damn quick. Hell I will take that ability if it is not at a Red camera price! ?

Google data shows HUGE decline of interest in Canon 5D series
webrunner5 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yeah but other than Leica they all show a decline. If your selling cameras I think that might be relevant. The Sony A7 mk III is too new to tell long term. I just don't see how the average person even Needs a "real" camera anymore. The newer Smartphones have a 2x lens in them, and some are going 3x lenses. Why bother with a camera. -
Well even Canon Only recommends 36 lenses for their Canon 5DS r. So they all can't be as great as you seem to think. Sure 8mp. 4K, 8K doubt it. https://www.the-digital-picture.com/News/News-Post.aspx?News=15356

LoL. When I was just starting out working after my fun time in the US Navy, ? I worked at a VW dealership as a mechanic. And the Used Car Manager there used to say" there is an ass for every seat". Kind of applies don't you think. ?

I think you are sort of are trying to talk me into that the Matrix movies were reality! I "see" where you are trying to go here. ?

Way beyond my knowledge on the stuff on a technical point, but I have had a Macular Hole, Detached Retina, both eyes operated on with cathartics, my granddaughter having brain surgery with only having half of each eye function, so yeah I know an unfortunate amount about eyes! Sort of been there, done that. I don't know about you but 16:9 is all is shoot at, and sort of what I relate to, and I Only have one eye! You must have 3 eyes to see different? There isn't anyone that can see in 4K! The average person over 20 is lucky to see HD. Hell of a lot of men are Color Blind. "Red-green color blindness affects up to 8% of males and 0.5% of females of Northern European descent.[2] The ability to see color also decreases in old age" Wiki.
