  1. I am not taking up for Red, well I guess I am, but the main reason they went proprietary was with the RED MINI-MAG. At the time there were a lot of SSD drives floating around on ebay, and half of them were total crap knock offs. So I guess Red got with somebody, Samsung? I don't know who and only used quality known drives in their Red Mags. That was the start of the charge 5 times or more what they cost thing. But the knock offs were terrible at times. Just total junk.
  2. I think there is, or was, a Full Moon out tonight. Stay the hell indoors LoL.
  3. The sensor is behind the mount. And I agree with @noone. I can clean the heck out of my A7s also without much worry. I grew up with no IBIS, no stabilized nothing. So no big deal to me. I think people try to hard to make their stuff flawless. That was sort of the character of 8mm, 16mm film. Now I am not talking shooting like a Drunken Sailor LoL, but.. Picture of the Sony A7 mk II IBIS assembly. Not sure how they fit all of that in a A7 body! Link to the tear down of the camera. https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2015/02/the-a7ii-teardown-a-look-inside-sonys-new-camera/
  4. I doubt you can even buy a New TV that is Only 1080p in anything less than 32" here. But I never buy a new TV. I buy them used off of Craigslist or from a Pawn Shop. I can buy a 55" 1080p one for 150 dollars. I don't have a real camera that even shoots 4K. I am not buying a recorder for my Sony a7s that cost more money than the camera did LoL. And my iPhone X does 4k, but it is not good enough to justify a 500 dollar TV to see it LoL. I really don't even read the news on the Web often. Don't care anymore. I really hardly EVER watch TV, and when I do it is for an hour to watch the Local and National news from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. That is pretty much it. And I may only do that 2 or 3 times a week. Some times not for 2 weeks I turn it on.That is why I don't watch Fox news, CNN etc, etc. And I pay very little attention to Washington DC. I really don't even read the news on the Web often. Don't care anymore. If I get up and everything is still there I figure we are not at War with Russia, China, etc. So all is good. ?
  5. I don't have a 4k TV, and I am sure 99% of the people in the world don't, so why bother. I am more beginning to believe it is more for the VFX people on Blockbuster Movies than just BoB. To me really good looking 1080p is well, damn good looking. I can maybe see 2K, but I guess the Genie is not going back in the bottle. I can see it for Travel, Doc, Scientific stuff, I can. But the cost of all involved to store it, edit it, Monitor it, Camera, media, on and on Christ I am not sure it is all really worth it for the average Joe Blow. But this BM 4K BMPCC is pretty damn interesting I must say that.. Ugg.
  6. Ahh that do take a wee bit of time to learn that.
  7. For video I am not too sure why you would want to buy many, if any, FE lenses to be honest. I would rather have a old Nikkor lens kit than the FE's. Now if you are a total AF user well sure, but.. I have a few FE's because of my eyesight and well just being old LoL. But I really do enjoy old MF glass, and the character they bring, and their build quality..
  8. Out of likes. Great stuff. Yeah the old stuff is good, but heavy, really heavy, expensive, and kind of dangerous to boot. Yeah but as you said, sometimes less is better, even lesser cameras. I don't think living in a 8K world, or even higher is going to be some blessing in the long run. Maybe for open heart surgery cameras, but to be artistic, nah I doubt it.
  9. I will have to do more research, but I remember in some video Grant Petty, founder of Blackmagic Design sort of poo pooed it as not a big deal for them, and they, BMD, was not that much interested at this time to even incorporate it in their products. But they already have CinemaDNG RAW, sure larger files, but you can have different compressed flavors of it. Now for company's that don''t have Raw well sure it probably is a big deal. I doubt they are going to turn it down. But I bet it will be a bite your tongue thing, giving Apple even more money for a license for it, and having to wait maybe years to even get it then. If just as a learning tool to grade and color it is a win I think. Why not.
  10. Well I would think right now it is the larger mass, weight of a FF sensor that is "holding" it back. But I doubt that will be true a few years from now, or maybe less. I don't think Sony is just gong to let it be as is. That ought to be an easy fix compared to designing a whole new type of Sensor. Maybe even the a7s mk III will be better? There is a limit as I stated in another thread. But I am sure even Olympus will gain a little bit more. https://petapixel.com/2016/09/26/olympus-says-earths-rotation-limits-image-stabilization-6-5-stops-max/
  11. There is no such thing as a Good, Cheap, Fluidhead LoL. Actually any Fliudhead below 500 bucks probably does not really have any fluid in it. I would not begine to buy a new one. ebay, Crigslist have some half decent older, better stuff for what you pay for a new Crap O Matic one. My Manfrotto 502 I paid 150 bucks used for it at a Rental House in Cincy. I think it is pretty good for they money. Is is perfect, no, but unless you want to spend 12 Grand for a top end Sachtler, which probably still is not perfect LoL, I think used is the way to go. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/327982-REG/Sachtler_7500_Video_75_Plus_EFP.html
  12. The Sigma 150-600/MC-11 is not that bad size wise. I had the 50-500mm "Bigma" for awhile on my Canon 1D mk II N. The Lens hood is a 1/3 of size of Sigmas big lenses LoL. That 150-600/MC-11 combo should be no problem on your A7 mk III. Sigma lenses work pretty well using their MC-11 compared to using EF lenses on it the MC-11. Best just to use a Metabones adapter if using Canon native stuff. Although this works pretty well for as cheap as it is. And the ND filters are really pretty darn good. I even use EFS Canon lenses on it. They are a bit snug at first but they work. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019D5P7EQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Yeah the tracking and AF point loss does suck, but it sucks less than having to buy a lot more lenses, especially really long ones, Gulp. And I have been to North Africa, but not much into Safari's LoL. No Alaska. I hate the cold and big ass Mosquitoes.
  13. Pretty great for a 5 year old camera. I would love to have one, but out of my reach sad to say. The Sony A7 mk III is probably my best bet for FF if I upgrade my A7s..
  14. And you can just use Clear Zoom and have no crop. And do that in the APSC crop mode and use Clear Zoom and be at 1200mm I guess LoL? It won't still be 42mp, be around 28mp I think. A7 series cameras are pretty amazing what they can do. Canon, Nikon Really have their work cut out for them to compete with them. DSLRs look REALLY long in the tooth compared to them technologically wise.
  15. Yep, probably the best 400mm out there this week LoL. ? You know what I remember reading that Olympus said, that they can not make their IBIS any better because of the Rotation of the Earth. Yeah how crazy is that. https://petapixel.com/2016/09/26/olympus-says-earths-rotation-limits-image-stabilization-6-5-stops-max/ Yeah in small doses you can drink, or take, or use, or do anything! ?
  16. You are not really going to use a 800mm lens on a A7 series body, even with a battery grip. It ain't happening. Sure you can do anything stupid but.. Why do you think Leica Never came out with any long lenses on the M series? It would look stupid and be stupid. If you want long lenses on a Sony buy the A99 mk II. And Sony’s 400mm is probably about as big as you can go with that body size. Even it is overkill.
  17. Any company can fire anyone if they want. You think people have a job for life everyplace now no matter what they do or did? A company that big even if you take it to court will drag it out until you are dead from old age, or go broke hiring lawyers.. This is 2018, the year of crazy stuff. This isn't 15 years ago where you might retire from a company. If they don't like you now you are gone, they have no choice anymore. Public opinion is king now, nothing else makes a crap, other than the bottom line money wise, and James Gunn was going to cost them a big money loss down the road. Adios ... Disney don't need him, or any one person. I have worked for over 55 years. I have seen tons of people die, retire, quit, and no company I worked at ever went out of business because someone left. They have a new Jackass in your seat the next day when you leave. They don't care about James Gunn, he was just a number in the system.
  18. I am sure Nikon is going to try and make a Mirrorless D850. Will they try first time around, not sure? If so that would be aiming at the A7r mk III I would think? But I doin't see how Canon or Nikon can make a "Better" Mirrorless than the Sony A7r mk III, A7 mk III on their first try. I think if they make a camera close to a A7 mk II or a A7r mk II they will be going crazy good..
  19. Yeah But Sony has that crop mode in the A7 series for s35 size, APSC so you can use somewhat small lenses if you want. Those cameras are really a heck of a lot more versatile than you think. There is a reason people that have them really like them. Do they have warts, well sure but man to me they really hit a home run with them. But sure if you want to shoot really long lenses the m4/3 is the way to go. But I don't think Sony really wanted the A7 series to go that way on using a long lens on them to start with?
  20. When Canon, Nikon have their FF Mirrorless cameras out I think Fuji is going to be in big trouble. You know Canon, Nikon will probably both make a APSC sized one also. I see negative Fuji growth, not positive down the road.
  21. I am sure the 800 ISO is going to be the native PK4 native ISO. So I would bet it is best to use that ISO.
  22. The only big edge to me Canon, Nikon have on lenses is that there is a Lot of used ones out there. But good lens, L type ones are expensive as hell even used. They is no free lunch on late, AF top end lenses, none. Sure the 17-40mm f4.0 L lens is not bad price wise, but it is Very long in the tooth in this day and age. But it is one of a few bargains out there. But a lot of the old ones don't have Image stabilization in them at all, and are noisy focus motor wise, on and on.
