I have had a couple of them for MFT and was impressed with the output and build quality. Never had one for a FF camera.

WHO AM I- "To the ends of time", an 8bit lover tells his story
webrunner5 replied to PannySVHS's topic in Cameras
He must have figured something out for he and his wife to look that good at nearly 60. I am just amazed how many skills he has and at some point just gives them up. The painting skill would be my favorite. I can't draw a stick man. -
I would buy a BMPCC 4K and just learn how to edit and color. They have aa pretty great output. With Raw you can make it look like just about anything. It is not the easy way out, but if you want a great look you have to learn to figure out how to do it. All these people you admire didn't just go out buy a cheap camera and make magic overnight. It takes years to get a certain look that stands out from the crowd. Video is not easy.

Damn most of them are out of focus. Yikes. I sort of like the coloring, exposure but everyone has different tastes.
-
Yeah, but they are hinting at 20 stops. That would be wonderful if it is that but nobody else is even close to that even today. Sony makes all kinds of sensors; I would think if someone could make something with 20 stops it would be them by now. DR is a Huge selling point these days. Cine camera users don't care about AF, its color and DR.
-
I seriously doubt Arri is out to fool people. But I admit 2 extra stops is a LOT. Usually, lucky to get a half of a stop on a new model.
-
The only praise I will give to Red back in the day was they did, with the Raven, introduce a cheaper solution that an average person could somewhat afford. They did sell a boat load of them.

Well, it is supposed to be incident light meter but could not change the spelling lol. I guess I had porn on my mind in the original draft.

I actually bought a lot of Sony gear back in the day to start a company with my daughter, she was and is a writer, can't say my wife was too fond of this idea, and we went out to California to talk to a few companys doing it and sort of found out at the time most of it was kind of controlled by the mob. Well, I figured we lived at the time in a mob-controlled city, not uncommon in the Midwest and out East in the 70's early 80's. that this might not be a good time to start this up lol. So we changed gears and started that Ad company I talked about on here. We are still both alive I guess because of that faithful decision. There was, and is a crazy amount of money to be made in the Porn industry if you live to tell about it! I have done some crazy shit in my life.

You want to shoot your stuff using an indecent light meter and you really need to do both photo and video on a tripod. Sharpness is the key to all of it along with perfect focus. Manual focus is really the way to go. Slow and easy, only way it works. Use a timer or a shutter release for photos.
-
If you want to get great at shooting Photos start out by doing nothing but B&W. To get a great look in black and white you have to nail the exposure. And that teaches you to take your time, use a light meter and a white balance card. Great photos are rare just snapping a shot you have to take your time look at different angles and think, think a lot. Maybe even come back at a different time, different day. Once you get a good eye for it apply the same for video. Shoot a lot of short stuff and stich it all together and try to make some sense of it in editing. Then try to match each sequence color wise, exposure wise. Doing all of it over and over is the only way to learn anything, your camera and the editing tools. Slow things down and think that is the secret to all of it.

Hell Red has been lying about 20 stops for years on their 8K stuff. I can believe the 17 but 20, hmm they might have made a breakthrough. Arri has been top dog on DR for years.

Doesn't look that special to me, workflow is easy if you are great at using Resolve. If you do that all day I would hope you are good and fast. But yes I have seen a lot better footage from the C70 than this video. Great camera no doubt. Getting great color from a Canon camera is not too hard of a task.

Why Gerald Undone is wrong about the Sigma Fp-L
webrunner5 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
There are not many Great Photographers or Videographers in the whole world. Both are hard as heck to stand out in. I think you need to be a better Photoshop expert than a great Photographer. Same goes with say being a wiz in Resolve or Premier for video. It Ain't easy as they say. I personally like Gerald Undone presentation; it is different than the rest of the pack -
So, unless you are trying to shoot video of the moon the video portion is pretty useless if true. Ah good old Canon, never changes.

Well for the average person you are going to get a Ton more keepers using a smartphone than a normal camera. And now even for people that want to experiment they have a lot more options now than before. How many cameras can shoot Pro Res that are affordable? Raw on Android phones. I have just reached a point where I just want to carry the least I can get by with. I am not going to have even a Sony RX100 with me all the time. I bought a new Tripod for the phone, heck it is like 2 pounds instead of like 8 pounds for my Manfrotto Carbon Fiber. It is just easier. That to me is a huge plus. Nobody is really going to buy a damn 30 pound old Alexa. I have had stuff like that in the past. It is a total pain in the ass to set it up tear it down, and there is always something that goes wrong using it. All that work, drive 30 miles to shoot and the battery is dead, forgot the media, forgot the monitor cable, on and on. Nah I want footage not problems. I am willing to sacrifice some quality for that. Hell not counting the overall cost is peanuts and heck you can even call people with it. And yeah my senior moments are getting worse by the day. Old age sucks I can tell you that.
-
Sorry hit wrong key, senior moment.

Well, I think this Sony video of the phone I have is way better looking than I can shoot, so you can see what it can do in the video. I think it is pretty amazing. The specs on it are crazy also. It has a 10 bit 4K screen that has the same look as the 10,000 dollar Trimaster Sony screens. So it is a equal match. It is that kind of stuff that really stands out. It even shoots 4K 120. It can shoot either 264 or 265.

This is a new video review of sorts of the latest Sony Xperia out. It has a true zoom lens in it. Sony does some crazy stuff.
-
And here is a great video that shows what a Smartphone can do if you don't leave it on auto, it is not too bad even on auto. They are better than most people think these days. And this one is 3 years old not the newest like I have.

This is the lens I bought, I hope you where not thinking of a FF version! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KD2XJD1?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image And this is the Cage I am going to use to hold the lens. https://www.smallrig.com/smallrig-professional-universal-mobile-phone-cage-cpu2494.html

I bought a Sirui Anamorphic lens for my Sony Xperia few days ago. Will get it in a few days, I guess. They look pretty good in the reviews I have seen. Found one from Sirui on Amazon for $79.00 Dollars new. Couldn't turn it down. I am just getting too old to carry around all the big stuff needed compared to the light set ups phones need. And I can buy all I need for the price of one good FF lens. It is just a no brainer for me anymore. I don't think Netflix is waiting up all night for me to submit a block buster to them. Maybe they are for Mercer. Glenn has been working hard on his.

He is an Amateur just as I am since I retired and as most people are on here. Sure, if you are a Pro you probably aren't using a Smartphone, but for your own use why not. Yeah, this is not Sony A7s III quality but are you going to carry a FF camera with a fast lens on it everywhere you go and are you even allowed to have it in certain places. I am not harping on them just because I just bought mine but they have come a damn long ways in the last few years, and now you can shoot Raw video on the Android ones and Pro Res on the Apple ones.
-
Plus, all the newer cameras have crazy fast lenses in them. f 1.6 is not uncommon anymore in them.
-
You are behind the times also I see. All the new phones have a night mode now that is pretty damn good. Probably better than most "real" cameras now. Not going to beat a Sony A7s III but. The problem with all the cameras he is listing he will go broke buying fast good glass for them. Someone can give you a camera but what good is it if you can't afford top end glass.
