They suddenly don't stop taking great video anymore. Most modern cameras look digital as hell now. 12 stops is pretty much all 35mm Movie Film has. Looks pretty good to me.

Well if you are doing a lot of the Doc work on a Tripod you can certainly use a wide DoF aperture and overcome AF problems, or use a heck of a wide angle lens and not worry much about it. I mean no doubt people have been doing Documentary shots for years and years on film cameras with No AF and it somehow worked. So yeah I can see the GH5s as maybe good enough AF wise, and damn good at the rest getting the job done. But the DPAF and Color Science would be a damn nice bonus to have! Only Canon drawback I have is the 1080p is a little too soft at times for Doc work. For people ok maybe, for say Animals, I want stuff sharp as heck. I can Always soften it if I want in Post. But the C300 mk II has 4K so that would work, but pretty big money for one of those. Speaking of Canon C series stuff that does 4K. Yeah I doubt Nikon is going to limit stuff like Canon will. It will probably be a balls to the wall thing to hope Canon wimps out as usual on specs. Plus they Really Need a home run more so than Canon does. It ought to get interesting this fall.

It would be the last camera I might want for Doc stuff LoL Heck I want a Canon C300 mk II or a C100 mk II at best for Doc work. GH5, ehh not good enough AF for me at that task.

Since the Camera has a crop I don't think you can have full 4K. That is why it probably really is 3k. I Really doubt it is doing a full sensor readout. But there is amazingly little info on the damn thing on the web. So my guess is about as good as yours. There are Very few cameras that can read the whole sensor, and Sony is one of them. I Really doubt Canon is doing it, as Sony just really started doing it lately starting with the A9. That is why the now ones have a hell of a lot less rolling shutter.

I would think a lot of the cheap as heck FF, MF lenses on ebay, Amazon, Craigslist have more character than new Cine lenses. And MF lenses have Big dials on them to change focus, aperture. I know that new to me, this old m42 Pentax 135mm, f 2.8 is about as sharp as you can get, and I paid like 4 dollars for it in reality. And I am like 20 feet away easy when I shot it. If there was a piece of micro film on the license plate you would have been able to read it! I can Always put a filter on it to soften it, sure can't make a lens sharper.

Oh no doubt you can build a heck of a editing machine for a Lot less money going the PC route. The edge PC's have is it IS the only real gaming platform, so there is always this big push for faster,better CPU's, GPU's. The only real edge Apple has for editing is if you are using FCPX. For any other platform PC's are the way to go. Any Mac is pretty far behind even a PC laptop when it comes to the GPU in them. And Resolve is a GPU hungry NLE. and also I think in a few more versions will be hands down the best NLE out there for just about any money. Now I doubt they are going to displace Avid Media Composer any time soon, but I bet they are going to try and do it, and sooner than later.

Do you already have a Motherboard that can handle dual PCI cards and a Power supply that has enough juice to do it? That is a lot of the equation. If you have to buy a new motherboard, and with that goes new memory because of the new board and a better, newer power supply, well you might as well just buy a 1080 Ti and be done with it. I know easy to spend your money! ? Resolve Loves expensive, fast GPU's. If you are gong for the new 4K BMPCC and going to use Raw, well it is going to take some serious Horsepower to do that. There are so many variables in upgrading video cards it is, well it can be a damn expensive way to go. I have found sometimes it is easier to buy a rig like that used from some gamer guy that is selling it for half what he had in it when new. There is no end to video card upgrades. To me not using SLI or bridging them is like really only using one card at a time as the other one will be somewhat idle. I know there is the Micro Studder thing, but I never experienced to amount to anything that I am going to stop bridging them. But to answer your question, yeah I think the Two 560 4gb will probably be better than the lone 1060, remember neither of these were top end cards, the 560 being the older of the two, but I am not sure how Resolve will handle them un linked. I don't like it that way at all to be honest. But easy to try it both ways. But you know how computer builds are, sometimes stuff just comes together and it is a Rocket, or it can be a Dog. You never know until you do it. The big problem is there is really no good way to benchmak Resolve like there is Games. So you are into, it will work or it won't. Nobody ever said video was easy!
