Who would pay twice the price if the new BM Pocket 4K had Canon DPAF?
webrunner5 replied to wolf33d's topic in Cameras
You are right about the DPAF. That is a on sensor thing using a Canon sensor. Since they are using a Sony Sensor in it, it ain't happening. And I would not sell the 4K BMPCC short yet. We have absolutely no clue how good or bad AF really is in it. And for the VLogging part it does have that front Movie button. And with a 10mm manual focus lens with a reasonable DoF Aperture on it, I have no clue why you even need AF with a super wide angle lens for the most part. Not saying it would not help, but.. And yeah why would anyone down vote Jon's comment on how hard it is to focus using MF lenses. Strange world out there. ? -
You would want it in Aperture mode. You want to try and stay with the 180 degree shutter rule. So you don't want to be changing shutter speeds doing video. Now in Photo mode that would be acceptable. Speaking of Lenses. How about $80,000.00 worth of them.

You don't want the one he is using like he said. You Want this one, and it is tons cheaper, and actually fits. https://www.smallrig.com/smallrig-cage-for-canon-eos-m50-2168.html

I sponsor 5 people on on Patreon. All YTers, either RVers or Sail Boaters. I can see how they can do what they do with not a lot of people paying their way. At 2 bucks a video or more it doesn't take tons of people to make good money. And like you say a lot of them get free gear from sponsors, and even individual people that have good money.

Figured it out. It is a RT Motion FIZ (Teradek RT) Wireless Follow Focus. Way out of my price range!

It is not too hard to get more stops of DR when you go higher like 6K, 8K in Raw. Raw easily adds 1 1/2 stops or a bit more. That stuff is usually 14 to 16 bit on larger sensors. Heck the Red 8K Weapon is claiming 20 stops. That is what the human eye is suppose to be I think. Since I know no one that has a 8K monitor I guess I will have to take their word for it. ?

I have never used it. Spent maybe 20 minutes in my whole life combined on it. Seemed pretty silly to me.

I would bet the make up of You Tube is tons more men than women on it watch and upload to it. And on Instagram I would bet there is Way more girls, woman on it than men. I doubt that will change much down the road either way. But hard to predict the future like you could years ago.

Panasonic camera hack, with 10bit 4444, The Digital Super 8 Bolex

Out of likes. Yes the Kodak sensors were, in my opinion, some of the best ever made for good lighting conditions. I have owned 3 of the Kodak DCS series DSLR's, and the E1, and a lot of other CCD cameras years ago. -
Hell the damn thing is in French LoL!

Out of likes. Yeah you hit the nail on the head as they say. YT execs are not laying awake with that silly stuff 12 year old girls are into on Instagram. Kim Kardashian's selfie hangout?

Wow nice rig! What is the name of that power breakout box on the left side??

I use a lot of manual old Canon, Nikon, Pentax, etc lenses because they are Cheap. But this TechArt thingy is interesting. I think a person is crazy no to take advantage of AF in certain situations. Not every shot in a short is a Crash Zoom, or a Focus Pull where you need precision from hell. When you get my age you are lucky to see shit. I Need AF a lot more than I ever did. And if I could afford a Canon C200, or a Canon C300 mk II I would have one for sure for the DPAF and the Color Science alone. @DBounce is a lucky person to have a C200. Envy. -

So you are telling me that all the Canon C cameras that have DPAF in them you would Never buy because the have AF?? That all of the newer Canon Cine cameras are total shit because they Have AF in them. Interesting. No Pro would be caught dead with one is what you are implying.. -

Yeah but Blackmagic is sort of giving away this new 4K camera don't you think? ? -

I agree with that statement, but I am a Old Turd. I think young people Have grown up with good, to great AF and they are going to demand it like it or not. I think even Arri, Red is going to have to come up with DPAF or better down the road or their in trouble. You are allowed to turn it off LoL. Heck it is all just Electronics to make AF happen. Nothing mechanical body wise. Sure a new Sensor, but they come up with new ones every 6 months lately anyhow. There is no real reason not to make a 65mm Panavision camera have killer AF. -

Who is to say it might not have a good AF in it now, or something as good as Sony has. AF is still up in the air on it. But I would not pay double for it as much as I use AF. I don't really think Blackmagic builds much of anything themselves as far as I know. Why not just pay a royalty for a good AF system from Sony or someone else? Heck it is a Sony sensor, they ought to know how to make a good AF system work. Surely Sony is going to use the same sensor in a consumer camera themselves I would think? Well maybe not since it is m4/3 sized. Hmm. -
I think we will see what Sony has before that. I believe both Canon and Nikon's Mirrorless cameras will be at least announced then, and Sony would like to beat them to the punch. Sort of what Blackmagic has done with the 4K BMPCC, only Sony will have it ready, not months from then. And I think Sony could sell a A9 with all the toys at 4500 bucks like hotcakes for the form factor alone. Even a FS5 is big in this day and age size wise. Now whether Sony can put 10 bit 4K 60p in a body that small we will find out LoL. I was down at my Son's house yesterday playing with his, new to him, but it looks like new with only 720 actuation's on it, Canon 5D mk III, and I had my Sony A7s with the Battery grip on it and the Canon was a F ing Sherman Tank size wise to it.Holly crap was it big as hell and heavy as hell also. I had forgot how big those damn things are!! So Sony could come out with a new A10 or something called like it with a slightly bigger body and it would still look like a toy compared to a FF DSLR. I took my battery grip off and we laughed our ass off on the difference. It was crazy. But he really likes the Canon colors and the ML output. So he is really happy with it.

It might be a upscale A9 mk II that will happen instead of the A7s mk III. Why not. It isn't going to be cheap no matter what they call it. The A9 I think is going to be their Flagship camera forever. Why not put everything, including the kitchen sink in it? Just think of a A9 with 10bit, 4K 60p, Variable Electronic ND filter, etc. Man now that would be a heck of a package. Sure it would hurt their FS5 mk II, but they would sell 50 times or more A9's than FS5's.
-
Yeah but with Canon , Nikon coming out with new Mirrorless stuff you can't shit around and wait anymore. If you can make something happen you has better make something Happen! I don't think Canon is going to come out with a Sony A9 beater right out of the box. But I really think they might be ready to really take an aggressive approach to this mirrorless stuff. If they don't I think they know there time in the sun is over forever. Sony is Out to KILL everyone.
-
Yeah but they might be able to make a A7 mk IV in 3 months that has 10 bit and 4K 60p. The a7 mk III is a run away hit, why not Kick it up a Notch like Emerald says! Or why not a A9 mk II?
-
Sad to say but Panasonic is going to Have to get off their ass and come out out with a Whole new focusing system or their goose is cooked, This is not 2010 anymore. Great AF is in in that segment, and they will not be able to give them away if they don't come up with a new way to do it. 2500 Dollar focusing turds are not a good thing to try to sell. And with a DPAF Mirrorless on it's way from Canon, and Nikon doing one , Panasonic better grab onto their butt if they are half decent. Sony and Canon do have AF figured out.
-
I think there is becoming a less and less need for a A7s mk anything now. Both the A7r mk III, and the A7 mk III, and the A9 have high as heck ISO now. Why does Sony need 4, yeah 4 A style bodies counting a A7s mk III if there even is one?? What is it going to bring to the table that they can't put in one of the other 3 bodies 4 months from now? Remember how quick the A6500 came out after the A6300. Sony is not afraid to undercut it's self.
-
Yeah but with Gimbals now and Run n Gun doable because of IBIS, I think the Need for a large Cine camera is going the way of the Horse and Buggy. If they come out with ND's in a mirrorless, whether mechanical or electronic, I see no real need for a large camera body anymore for the average person. Sure Hollywood is using the Panavision stuff, but they are over the top, mega money cameras, that in reality you can't even buy.
-
I don't see how they can sell it for 500 dollars with the BM coming out. And at some time you will be able to buy the 4K BMPCC without the Resolve Dongle. You know that is going to happen, and that it will really be just 995 bucks. The E2 is dead in the water unless you Need a little form factor. And it's not like the BMPCC is Hugh either. Sure it's bigger but..
