You have to be making some good money, or be pretty serious to buy a C200 or a Eva1, FS7 mk II. If you want to make money I think you Have to have one, or rent them a lot. But things are changing so fast I would almost be afraid to get into a system anymore. I think I would buy a used Arri Alexa for 8 grand than a new above camera if you make your money on Sticks. It is such a proven, beautiful output camera. But media cost for it are Yikes kind of money! I think the average person on sticks will be happy enough with this new 4K BMPCC, and a Speedbooster. I guess how good the AF is on it will determine other uses.

Now I will admit I used a Hasselblad with no IBIS and No Touchscreen to do weddings, so I guess it could be done. But I only took like 50 to 70 shots tops back in the day, all pretty much staged, linked to strobes, on and on. They don't do that anymore. No way I am shooting a wedding without lights for the cake cutting, group photos, on and on also. You sound like you would charge 200 bucks for it. I charged probably 2500 bucks or more at times in today's money for my shoots. One year I did 44 of them with my wife helping. And was just Photos. If they had video like they have now it would be 4000 bucks at least for me to do it. Weddings are a Ton of work. And you loose your entire weekend doing them. And you have to have damn good gear and spare gear, up to date gear, to shoot them. A lot of people still use Canon 1DC's to shoot weddings. Just think what a pair, or even 3 of them cost to buy when they were new. I had 5 Hassy bodies and 12 lenses for them.Think what they cost. I always had a body up in New York getting cleaned and oiled, checked for problems. Rotated them to make sure they didn't fail. But they did last longer than the newer digital cameras out now. They didn't get outdated fast. You can't just start off charging 10,000 bucks, but I found the less you charged the less jobs you got. How good is some jackass charging 399 bucks to do my wedding thing! If you charge big money people Assume you are damn good and will pay it. And you better damn well produce, and that takes skill and gear to do it, and a lot of luck on your side. You never get over the jitters doing it, and that is a good thing. Once you relax and think you got it you screw up. It isn't for the meek trust me. It is a hell of a fast paced way to make a buck. You sweat bullets at the wedding and you sweet bullets editing it, and hell the Darkroom stuff was even more scary back in the day. I would Really be afraid to shoot a wedding without a camera that has dual card slots. Man you loose a card your goose is cooked!

You want to give up IBIS and a Touchscreen doing weddings?? WoW you have some great big Cahonies LoL. ?
-
Hmm, I must have missed that. I never knew you went FF. Grats. Hell it's about time you saw the light. Sony, FF, heck you may have died and went to heaven. ? I agree with you thoughts. Panasonic and Sony have picked up the pace here pretty fast lately. But this new 4K BMPCC is more a Cine camera than a Hybrid. I think the GH5s is a bit also. But we are talking $8000.00 type Cine cameras this thing is going to be able to compete with. That is a Big deal. The average person is not even going to need it or the 8 grand cameras. They are slow and clunky. This BM might not even be clunky. We don't know yet. But for other than run n gun, and it may do that, this thing is maybe unbeatable for us money wise. I guess we will soon find out. I think we are going to be blowen away by the 4K Raw footage out of it.

Great points, but he is going to Have to have some kind of lighting at a Wedding. He just has too. Maybe not a lot of the time, but man when you need it you better have it and have it ready to go in a heartbeat. You can only slow down a wedding so much, even shots of the group after the wedding there is pressure to get you out of the church, people want to get to the reception, have to go to the bathroom, on and on. And when things get going, ergo, people get drunk at the reception, you are not stopping Anything. Ain't happening. Half the people don't even know or care about the cake cutting, bouquet tossing, etc. They just want to get drunk. Hey, free Booze. And if it is a Polish, Russian wedding even You and both Grandma's will be drunk! ?

4:2:2 vs. 4:2:0 - is an external recorder beneficial ?
webrunner5 replied to salim's topic in Cameras
If you are trying to make money doing stuff I think you are way better to be safe than sorry and use an external recorder if you can. The biggest thing is you have a lot bigger screen to look at to catch mistakes, and usually a lot more tools in it at your disposal too help not to screw up. That is a win, win, and on top of it you look a lot more professional, and that is half the battle for a next, or better job from a Client. You have to sell yourself to get a job and to keep one every time. -
If you Only use one lens a lot, and it is not a extending zoom they are pretty good. If you change lenses a lot, you will try to find the highest skyscraper you can find and jump off of it. You are Never going to be able to use one of those mechanical Gimbals for a wedding. You have to change lenses all the time and damn fast unless you have 4 cameras hanging off of you. You can't really even use a Electronic Gimbal changing lenses fast. IBIS and a OIS lenses on it to boot that is matched to the camera is the only way it will work for fast changing situations. Giving up IBIS for what you want to do, nah, go for the A6500. If you really want to shoot videos for weddings the camera is the least of your cost. Getting into video is DAMN expensive. You are going to have to have a really good tripod and fluid head, damn good lighting, great lenses, on and on. And you Really need a backup to all of it. I shot weddings for years and years. If it can break, or you forgot it, it happened. I had backups for backups trust me. You Only have one shot to get it. And now everyone is sue happy. You can't half ass a wedding. And you really can't start small. It is balls to the wall or nothing if you want to charge for it. And on top of it you have to look and act professional as hell or oh boy. That means more than a Cellphone and a flashlight.

Liliput A5, or any other cheap 5" or smaller competitors?
webrunner5 replied to IronFilm's topic in Cameras
Well I have a Apple X, 256 GB one. A Apple SE 16 GB I never use. I bought my son a Apple 8 64 GB. He uses my 2015 Macbook Pro 15", and I have a 2018 iPad Air 32 GB WiFi, Cellular version. and a self built Desktop PC. So I guess I am a Apple Fanboy. I don't make a lot of money retired but I sort of like the look and feel of Apple stuff, and they have hands down the most Apps. I am going RVing soon and there is a lot of Apps that only work on IOS. Another reason. I just got rid of my Samsung Note 8, just too damn big and well it seemed buggy to me. My Note 4 and Note 2 never acted that way. But my Note 4 had the dreaded expanding battery problem. Never did burn, but it took 3 batteries and 2 bodies to get it right. A real pain in the butt. But with Vat Cost, and it seems Everything cost a more in the EU anyways, I can see why Apple is a hard sell in Europe. You do what you can afford to do unless you are cheap like ? @IronFilm What am I doing wrong? When I insert a name with the @ thingy or a Emoji I can't type Anything pass them?? -
If you want to do weddings by all means buy the A6500 with IBIS and eye tracking. It will be your best bet. But think about Maybe going with a few FF lenses for it in case you move up to FF. You can always use the APSC lenses in the Crop mode on the FF though.

No I would say the AF is close to Dog Shit in video mode. But name me a camera in his price range that has good video AF? And 2 of those M42 lenses are Super-Multi-Coated Takumars!!

I have No complains about focus with my A7s in AFS like noone says. Is it a killer focusing camera, not if you have that Bottle Rocket burning your cheeks back there. I like the A6500 a lot better than the A6300 because of the IBIS. But Sony Has to be close to coming out with a new one, and the prices on it will drop like a rock. But it is a heck of a good camera now with the newest firmware. They raised the temperature thingy on it so it doesn't overheat as often now. Yeah the M50 looks interesting but no DPAF in 4K, and you really need to buy the Speedbooster to make it work. That is a 1000 bucks total right there. And it doesn't have many tricks up it's sleeve other than good color output, which I know is important, and soft 1080p with DPAF, which I know is ehh, well I don't like soft 1080p Unless I want to make it soft LoL.. The problem with most Video Cameras is they just don't have many features you need other than Sony and Panasonic cameras. I guess it just depends on how serious you want to get. I mean at the price point you are looking at you probably can sell anything you buy and not loose much down the road. Now if you buy a lot of lenses for it well then you can take a big hit if you change brands, or go from APSC say to FF. That is why I love the Sony A7s. FF and it has the APSC crop mode in it, plus the Sony Clear Zoom. And since it is mirrorless you can use damned near any lens other than s16, m4/3 stuff. I went to a thrift store near me a few days ago and bought a camera bag with a old Pentax SP 500 film camera on it with 4 lenses in the bag for 16 dollars! It had 3 M42 screw lenses, a 24mm f2.8, a 28mm f2.8 and a 135mm f2.8. And a Canon FD 28mm f 2.8 all with caps for both ends! All of it looks like brand new. All will work on my A7s. Just magic I tell you.

1080p on both the A6300, A6500 is pretty terrible. The A6500 is damn good for 4K though. I agree, in this day and age I don't think either one would be on my radar at all. I would take a GH4 over one of them any day. AF is about the least of your concerns on a Video Camera purchase. You want to use touch screen focus. Why would you want a camera to decide what the hell it wants to focus on, not you? The Sony eye focus I can see if you are doing Weddings, Corporate Interviews, etc. Now if you want to run around like you have a Bottle Rocket up your Butt, well then I guess you need AF and a Life Squad! ? There is a Sony A7s on Craigslist where I live for $775.00. https://cincinnati.craigslist.org/pho/d/used-sony-7s/6611663099.html I would sure rather have that than a A6300 for nearly the same money. The A7s has about the best looking 1080p going right out of the camera sharpness wise. Maybe not the best colors back then, but I like those colors. But they do have Luts and Editors for that in this day and age LoL. ?

4:2:2 vs. 4:2:0 - is an external recorder beneficial ?
webrunner5 replied to salim's topic in Cameras
Well both are 8 bit so that doesn't help. But the XC10 has a really high data rate, 305Mbps @ 8bit 4.2.2, so I am surprised about that. Now the C100 has a pretty bad Codec. 24mbps @ 8bit 4.2.0 is pretty damn weak. But it can be beautiful. Both can. But not great with bright skies. Big weakness with anything we can afford! Well most BM cameras work, and the ML FF Canons are not bad either. Raw does help a Lot. They have greater bit rates of 12 bit. One reason Arri Alexa output is so good is their Raw is 16bit. Crazy good stuff. -
Yeah but the footage out of the E2 is pretty bad right now. Will they fix it, I don't know. But it can be 250 bucks and I don't want it. Well I guess I would LoL. Yeah I forgot about the E1. Now that is pretty good. I am sure they will figure out the E2, I hope. But I don't see how they are going to sell Any of them since the 4K BMPCC has been announced Unless you need a damn small profile body. Ergo, BM Micro size. They are in a tough spot right now with it no doubt.

But I would imagine that Apple products over where you live are a lot more than they are here. And they Ain't cheap here! I like them not only for their technology, but also they are like pieces of art. Just beautiful looking, even the mouse. -

If you buy a product from a company I would say you, me whoever, IS sort of a Fanboy of that company. And I sort of like Apple stuff. So I kind of feel offended by Your statement LoL. -
Out of likes. Nice find.

4:2:2 vs. 4:2:0 - is an external recorder beneficial ?
webrunner5 replied to salim's topic in Cameras
I have seen tests on the C100, I know not a camera the OP is asking about, but it really didn't help it much at all. Now on my Panasonic AF100A it did help with the Clipping on it with a external recorder. So for some cameras a external is great, and some not so much. But like has been said, ProRes is a little easier on older computers. And it has a lot of Flavors to pick from. -
Out of likes. Nice tip.

I am not a super fan of the turquoise look either but it did seem to fit this short. It is just amazing how damn good, either way, grungy like this short is, or Arri looking a cheap original BMPCC can be. If this new 4K BMPCC is even 30% better this thing is going to be a Killer camera for a crazy cheap price. How does a little company like BM make a product that on paper that is better than a camera 5 times the price? I think the big boys are screwing us to be honest. Other than maybe Kinefinity nobody else is close money wise to a heck of a product. I will give Sony big credit for the original A7, A7r, A7s price and specs wise. They were game changers for not a lot of money at the time. And well I will give credit to Canon for the new M50. I am not sure they even knew if you put a Speedbooster on it it becomes a half serious camera for not a lot of money? I think they may have had Vloggers in mind for it but. And well a1ex, admin on Magic Lateran, deserves a Super big hand for the Canon hacks.

Yeah but what is crazy is that this film is in a way is so bad it is good. it's up there getting looks. So hey, what the hell LoL. I am not sure where to put this lighting video. But I guess here is not the worse place. I found this video using 2 damn small Aperture LEDs. I don't see how a person can be without them to be honest. They are that handy for something you can have in your pockets.

This film sort of reminds me of Jackson Pollock the painter that dribbled, and threw paint on a canvas on the floor, and people thought it was the Cats Ass. Is it art or just crazy shit that is cultist? I tend to think the Latter on both. I am not saying things have to be perfection, but just being sloppy as hell, hmm. But, and this is a Big but, I think this short is a Winner. It ain't normal as they say. And this one, shot on a Red Scarlet, is the most watched short on Vimeo.

Well one problem I see in this day and age is there is so much content out there it is really hard to wade through them to see the standouts! Back to the "better to be lucky than good" thingy. ?
