I would not trade my Sony A7s for your 1Dx mk II even. But that is what makes the world go around. I have had a lot of the 1D, 1Ds EOS series cameras. For long lenses for photography they are the cats ass. For video using small primes, nah not so much compared to the newer Sony's. I am Never going back to any DSLR for video. Now if I was a sports photographer well sure. But it would be the Nikon D5, not the Canon 1Dx mk II.

Yeah When I had my Panasonic AF100A it took me forever to get anything I was not ashamed to show anyone the footage LoL. These higher end cameras are Way too complicated to just Point n Shoot. They have too damn many options. And you trying Raw on top of that, well I am not surprised you are having some problems. Maybe just doing the C Log thing with a LuT for awhile to get used to it might help. Dynamic Range isn't everything. It is only as of late many cameras have over 10, 11 stops and there is some fabulous footage from them out there. Heck the original C100 is a good example. 8bit and no Raw. Just C Log to help. Now that is a good help mind you.

Yeah I am too old for that myself LoL.

Yeah but on paper I don't like small Cine cameras. I want buttons out the ass. I don't want to menu dive for this and this. At least the new 4K BMPCC has a 5" screen to look at. in a small package. Now if you are into Gimbal work a small body is desirable. But I grew up using Glidecams so you can fly just about anything on one of them. I still think they look more natural than a electronic Gimbal if you are good with one. Takes a lot of patience and practice to do it though! Plus we don't even know the price of the Mavo LF yet. Not hard to be cheaper than a Red but I bet they are not going to give it away.

You must have not owned the original A7 and the A7r then, or my A7s. The 1Dx mk II is a Dinosaur in this day and age. A big ass one at that. With Luts, and Resolve Color Science is pretty much a thing of the past. And not Everyone is a huge Canon Color fan anyways. I like Nikon way better.

Well the GH5s sensor, in a Canon camera, with their Color Science, and DPAF, would not be a bad thing!

Now mirrorless is a raging success. Samsung will be back

Insane Dynamic Range!! Yeah, like 10.1 stops in Video. But around 13.2 stops in Photo. So higher than a Canon, but not a Nikon. https://***URL not allowed***/lab-review-samsung-nx1-video-mode-frustrating/ -
Probably on of the reasons the GH5s has a softer look to it to make it look a bit less Digital looking, not counting a newer Color Science.. Plus I doubt anyone is going to complain about less Moire'

Too saturated and too sharp yet for my liking. It does not even look like Canon footage. You are trying Too hard I think. You are just going to have to shoot, shoot, shoot, and edit, edit, edit to get it to Your liking. I guess maybe we are trying to hard to get it to OUR liking LoL!

Biggest problem I see they have is the NX1 uses a APSC sensor. Not much love for that format anymore other than Fuji. It seems m4/3 ,and FF, 1" are the thing, and even the 1" maybe in trouble with this new Sony m4/3 sensor now. I just don't see how they can begin to succeed in this day and age. -
What Type Of External Audio Recorder Are You Using ? (POLL)
webrunner5 replied to BTM_Pix's topic in Cameras
Yeah the old get in a hurry trick. I am probably not going to the newer version, the DR70, because of my age I need physical controls not menu diving. Too old to see that on a dingy screen in ultra fine print! I may move up to the DR60 mk II maybe? -

I have had one of these for years. I have always liked the idea if being able to hang it off the bottom of the camera. And it is pretty small in reality for all the stuff it has in and on it.. http://tascam.com/product/dr-60d/ -
And that is one of many reasons I want to support BM more and more down the road. He is on a mission to bring Film Making to the masses on the cheap.

True, but can you afford to buy the Kinefinity Mavo and Mavo LF, and everything else you need to make it happen?? That is the issue. I think most can afford the new 4K BMPCC. Hell I would rather have a Arri Alexa LF XS if money is no object. And no it is not small, and there is a reason for it. It takes like 3 to 4 people to shoot a big time Cine camera comfortably, would be a bit hard to get that many peoples hands on a Kinefinity Mavo and Mavo LF at one time. Horses for Courses. Red cameras in reality are too damn small also. But they, like the Kinefinity are more portable. By God I think you are right. My bad.
-
Yeah true, but they are not Cine cameras like this new BM is. You should damn near be able to make a big time, full blown movie with this new BM 4K. Not so much with a Sony A7 mk III.
-
Yeah but the damn lens is another Variable Aperture lens. Who the hell needs that for video? That was part of the problem with the original lens. Crazy that Canon of all company's going to a 4/3 sensor! Wonder if it will be the same Sony sensor that is in the GH5s, 4K BMPCC, Kinefinity 4k Terra?

Best used setup for filming ff dslr on a really tight budget

And it is an amazingly small and light package to boot. -
Wow that HDR one is sharp as a tack an crazy good colors wise. I can't imagine what it looks like on a True 4k HDR TV or Monitor. That Filter Holder is surprisingly cheap. https://www.amazon.com/Cokin-BAD700A-Digital-Holder/dp/B0000AQ4N1

From BM site. "You get controls for recording start/stop, still photos, ISO, shutter, aperture, white balance, function buttons, power on/off and more." If you go down a little bit to pictures of the body the picture on the right side shows a Aperture Button. https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicpocketcinemacamera Plus there is the 3 buttons on the top that you can assign to anything I guess. But I would imagine you have to use the scroll wheel out front to change values. I know there is a slider thingy at the bottom of the 5" display to change Apertures. Probably does LCD brightness, etc. also.

I don't know you just give up way too many features not having a Sony A7xx over the EOS-1D X Mark II in this day and age. Sure the colors are nice on a Canon, but the green, dead looking Color Science on the older Sony's are long gone. But I prefer the Color Science of my original A7s over the newer ones. They are too good in a sense. I like the grunge look of the older A7s. Now if I was doing Normal stuff, trying to make a buck with one, well I Would want the newer ones.
-
Not a fan of Ken Rockwell, but his review has some pretty much in your face shots on his review of the A7 mk III. I guess this is what they look like Color Science wise. https://www.kenrockwell.com/sony/a7-iii.htm I have seen some shots from it that look more Canon looking than a newer Canon! To me the newer Canons are looking more toward Red than the older ones that were a Orange Red. Maybe it is because Canon wants a more punchy look, or maybe they are a bit sharper now even in 1080p. Or well maybe both reasons?
-
The Sensor maybe can't move data fast enough for ProRes or Raw?
-
I don't know, you could buy a pretty good Sony A7 mk III and lens kit for what you can get just for the Canon EOS-1D X Mark II body used. Close to the latest and greatest stuff.
-
Wow I think you are right. The lens release on a m4/3 body looks just like the lens release on the outer flange area in those patent pictures. What the hell a m4/3 lens on a XC body?? Christ!
-
Look at figure #34 in the patent. Interesting as hell. Surely the lens separates from that mount? And like @Matt James Smith ? says one of those sections has what appears as glass in it.
