  1. I thought the Atomos Flame was sort of invented to work with the GH5 to get 4k 60p 10 bit from it?? Ought to work with a GH5s? I am sure it would take a firmware update on their other ones, and heck it may never work on the older ones?
  2. That Cowboy Rig is the same damn plastic piece of crap, just with a different name on it. https://www.amazon.com/CowboyStudio-Shoulder-Support-Camcorder-Camera/dp/B0036NMQ7S Buy a Zacuto rig and be done with it for life. But you may have to give up your life to pay for one! I love the one I have. EXPENSIVE as hell. All their stuff is. I have more than I should have bought. But you might find some of it on there closeout section for a 1/3 of the price. I have snagged a few pieces that way myself over the years. It is the only stuff I buy if I am serious about getting the job done. They are Always innovating new ideas. Great company to deal with also.
  3. Out of likes. Well stated. Most of us are WAY behind on our displays on current tech. Me included.
  4. Yeah I no clue how people in Maine etc, and lower Canada can hack Nor'easter after Nor'easter. Jesus. Move while you can.
  5. Casey's reaction to the You Tube shooting. Man the pumping of the focus on it is ehh pretty crazy. So much for DPAF Face Tracking. I guess that is what he is using. Probably the Canon 6D mkII? That is his main VLog camera now. Might not be though. Colors don't look like a Canon?
  6. Shit I think you are right, LMAO.
  7. Well I am sure the vast majority of people see color close to the same other than colorblind people. I mean Canon is hands down the best selling camera Because of their colors. And it appears that they got it right for the most people to "perceive" it as they process it in their brains as truth..
  8. When I had my AF100A I think it was rated at 11 stops of DR, and I found that was pretty close to true. Not ground breaking but it got the job done IF you exposed it right. I used Cine Like D most of the time I think it was called. I lowered the knee a bit on it to keep it from blowing out highlights which it was REALLY bad at doing. It was it's biggest weakness.
  9. We have No clue how our brains actually work. Maybe yours woks better than mine, maybe the opposite. Maybe Everything we experience in life is perceived as you like to say. But I live in reality, what I see is what I see, sure there is some computer science going on in my brain to make it work, but it outputs what I see, and I See color, true colors calculated from my 71 years of experience of perceiving it. Ergo I leaned how to see true colors.
  10. Yeah I can't stand that stuff either. Everybody and everything looks dead LoL. Now Low Key is not so bad. Well not as bad.
  11. Jon you talk about Filippo Chiesa a lot. I think has grades are all too dark, a bit depressing looking. I notice you lean that way also. Nothing wrong with that. If you like to grade it that way, you grade it your way. We all have people we look up to we want to emulate. It ticks our box as they say. Now if I was doing a slasher movie that mood fits, dark and foreboding. I like lighter looking colors. Natural looking stuff, stuff like my eyes would see it if I was there, not some veil over my eyes. But that is not what true movies in reality really represent. They represent what the Director Thinks I ought to see. To put me in his, her mood, not mine. And maybe you are right to do what you do, to sort of be like Filippo Chiesa. I am not a big movie fan. I can't stand to sit, that doesn't sound right LoL, to sit for 2-3 hours and watch anything. I have no F ing patience at all. None.I like documentary films more than movies, I like nature shows, history, love that stuff. But I want to see it like it is, not how color wise someone wants me to see it. Honest color, the real deal. But I have seen lots of movies in my life, I just never really want to see them again. I have a good memory I guess , I know what is going to happen LoL. I like the film look, I grew up with it. but now we have digital, and all these newer camera models have gotten a Lot better colors wise. Panny, Sony have made the biggest leaps. Canon, Nikon the same yet, and that is a good thing. They have had it right from the start. But I think we do need to compare camera colors on here to pick what camera output we like the best, why we like it and why we don't. And how we can make it look like other cameras, like Sage is doing. Looks like the new Fuji X-H1 appeals to a heck of a lot more people on here than I would have ever guessed. And that is fine, it's their money they are spending not mine. And I an sure it will never end because every company has Their signature Color Science. And that is the company we will buy into probably for the rest of our time unless some new company comes out with better Science we like. So I will stick with my old ugly A7s colors, I love it, and we can all be happy as pigs in shit about what we bought!
  12. I think our whole life is maybe never really reality. More I think this is happening than maybe it is thing. Hard to really prove anything is really true to the enith degree. But if everyone liked all the same stuff we would be the Borg from Star Trek LoL. Bored as hell all on the same mission. Well I am going to bed. Late here. And I doubt Andrew wants us to turn this site into the View LoL. It is a video site.
  13. I would think people making a living as a Colorist, editing video, probably don't perceive anything colors wise. I think they See colors. Ehh they say women are safer drivers. I think mostly they drive less, and don't tend to drink or speed as they have children with them often. But they do tend to have their eyes stray from the road a Lot, Yikes. Scares me to no end riding with them.
  14. Now you are talking the difference between Real and Imagined. I see real colors you see imagined LoL. I passed the test. I bet you would not have, odds against you. Your right though. They say Women see colors a lot different than men do well may not a lot but different. Pastels mostly. All in a softer way, less pronounced than men. Men do almost everything more savage than women. Did you know woman have 50 times more nerve endings on the tip of their fingers than men? Mostly for being able to soothe babies, and men have less to do rough tasks, chopping wood etc,. Holding heavy Video cameras etc Lol.
  15. You would be amazed how many people are color blind and it is mostly men who are. My first wife had 3 brothers out of 4 that were color blind as hell. I am sure it runs in family's.
  16. Well we all see colors different. Depends on what we grew up with I guess. When I was young out of high school I got a job working for Western Electric. Western Electric was a Division of Bell telephone back in the day, that is before Bell got broken up, this was in 1966. I applied for a job there in the newspaper and I got hired. And I was one of 6 people that did out of 578 people that tried to be hired also. And you know the reason why Us 6 were the only people of the bunch that got hired? Is that we that could tell every CORRECT color in this huge color Palate you had to take a test on with like hell, like 300 questions Just related to colors. It took 3 hours for the test. I would have never guessed I was like that. Dumb luck. And the job payed a ton of money per hour to boot. It was a rare skill to have.I made more money to start with then my Father that worked at GE for 7 years did. Crazy luck. And the job was, hell I didn't know it at the time, was to wire up brand new subscribers in the Bell telephone offices and repair problems with existing wiring. And some of these wires, cables mostly, had as many as 2,000 pairs of wires in them, all color coded. Some had as many as 20 codes a wire to differentiate them for each other. Every wire a different color combo, So you could not be color blind, and you had to be able to see perfectly every color in there was in these cable bundles to splice them, or it install them on these hundreds and hundreds of relay racks in the buildings or underground in vaults whether new or damaged. So Long story short I know what the hell colors are Suppose to look like. Not clown colors, fake colors, color blind colors, REAL colors. So I guess that is why I am so ehh picky.
  17. I think a lot of the footage I have seen from the X-H1 looks too un natural to me. There are good looking colors, BMPCC, Canon, Nikon colors. But Fuji, I like tend to like the new Sony A7 mk III colors better to my eyes. I just don't like over saturated colors. Olympus used to be that way years ago also. But read on below and I will reward you. I am not even going to say it is not Cinematic, Filmic. I like those looks, Mercer does also. But I would think if you are a working Pro, a person trying to make money, you are not looking for that look anymore in this day and age. That is a movie film look. Film is dead in a sense. Not going to be revived. When the old timers die it dies. No going back. No real need to. Most people are making Doc's, interviews, news stories etc to try and make a buck, break into the business. 4k and higher have ended the film look. Normal younger people want to see sharp, clean footage. They don't want film grain from hell anymore. They want 1080p you can cut your face on. And well I guess people now are into that look and I am not. There are more of you then of me left. I personally like the look of the GH5s better, more grungy like the A7s I have. Most people on here like the GH5 and the A7s mk III look now. And apparently now the X-H1 look. So I guess I am in the minority on the Fuji X-H1, and well will concede you win. Times change and I probably won't. Too old for that. But I see no reason for people not to buy it, I am sure it will take a video, a good one. It's more on you than the camera anyways. Go for it and enjoy, it's your money, make the most of it. I will let you guys rest in peace. No further comment from me on it. Only fair to you. And hell I have run out of jokes on it anyways.
  18. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Excellent-US-Seller-Isco-Optic-MC-Ultra-Anamorphic-Lens-2x/323179167996?hash=item4b3efac0fc:g:pwAAAOSwOy1as9vK Your right the Reds are more money than I stated. Sorry.
  19. I don't know. I grew up and shot with Wind up Film movie cameras that got slower as the spring wore down, battery powered ones that sort of got slower as the battery wore down, and I don't think anyone noticed or even cared if they did. And they got wonky as hell the worse they got, and the older the camera got. It still is story is king and if you are entranced by the story, looking at motion variances is probably the last thing on your mind unless it slows down to a crawl, and hell you probably thought that was part of the movie to begin with. Man that was pure genius. I think we all worry too much about the small stuff. Content is the whole point, not engineering perfection. Sure try to get most of it right, but I don't think Motion Cadence is up there at the top of my must do list. Also if that dancer thinks she did that whole routine at perfect timing perfection I have a bridge to sell her. .
  20. Ahh the Plastic Fantastic. Yeah I forgot it. I want to forget it. The thread on it reminds me of some of my daughters sleep overs years ago. Hehehehe, hehehhe, ahh he's cute, hehehehe. Jesus. Grown F ing men going hehehehe. It's output is so cute, hehehehe.
  21. When I look at what is suppose to be 13 stops on a BMPCC, seems like enough to me. But a Sony A7s is suppose to have that much, maybe more, and it doesn't look like enough. And like has been said when it is delivered in Rec. 709 at around 7 stops hmm, heck I don't really know what is good. But no doubt more IS better.
  22. I wonder who does make screens for Atomos? Anybody have a clue?
  23. I am sure there are fools that have paid 700 dollars for one. There is close to 10 of Red Plus's on there for 350 bucks or less as of today. The Non Plus ones you are lucky to give away. 50 to 150 bucks tops, and there is a bunch of them on there now for that money! Now since you live in Japan ebay prices maybe a lot more, who knows. They are pretty good lens for the money, but they made about a billion of them, Are they a good starter lens, well sure to get your feet wet. To experiment with. when you take one apart and screw it up well no big deal. And you do have to take them apart . Do that with a Cooke lens well you might slit your wrists. There are people on ebay and Amazon that jack up the prices hoping people think because it cost the most it Has to be better than one for half the price. Both places have rip off artists on them. Go on ebay some time and do a search from high to low and you will find a 400 dollar item for sale, same thing for 4,000 dollars. They hope you make a mistake and push buy now and then you are screwed. There is some jackass people in the world these days.
  24. Yeah but like I said a small HD is worse than a Atomos screen for the same money or more. I have no clue why Atomos doesn't make just small screens for sale. They have a like 20 inch one but..
  25. Then why are you asking 50 questions then LoL. If you want to learn how to grade buy a BM product. IF you just want to start and go at it Don't buy a BM product. Simple as that. Both ways work. It is your choice on how long you want it to take. If you are great at grading and have hours to shoot, buy a BMPC. You will be the Only one probably on your block to have one. The cheaper, under 2500 dollars BM cameras are hands down the easiest camera to screw up. And in a sense that is a good way to learn how to shoot and grade. But there are times you want to throw the whole damn thing off a bridge and buy a ehh, Canon, god I can't believe I just said that.
