I will admit that ETTR is Easier with photo mode than video Mode. You can't change your shutter speed to help with it. So that makes it harder. But you still need to push to over expose not under expose. It is really hard to get the best out of a Digital camera in Video mode. Plus if you are shooting Log you have to raise the ISO like it or not. My A7s is 3200 ISO min for S Log 2. Ouch.
-
Who said Anything about you have to use ISO for ETTR. I never said it. You seem to be the one who is confused. ETTR was devised by the founder of Luminous Landscape, Michael Reichmann, a Digital Camera web site, on How to expose digital cameras to get the best out of them. Has not a damn thing to do with film.

Canon Full Frame Mirrorless is just around the corner?
webrunner5 replied to IronFilm's topic in Cameras
Who the heck you think built all the Cameras that you watched on TV 40 years ago, Canon?? You think I used a Canon camera for ENG work at the TV station I worked at.? I am not talking about just cameras we can buy, I am talking all of it, Broadcast and all!. Canon is a young pup when it comes to video. Sony has been here hell since 1980 at the least. Even before that I bet. I am not just talking about Digital cameras alone. Plus Nikon had the Very first Digital DSLR, the Nikon D90. Canon came out soon after. -
Yeah, but if are into Photography, 99.9% of the world is, DPR is still hands down the best site for overall info. There is not many people in the world like us thank God.

You don't really think DPR was going to write a 5 page article when they could just provide a Link, like they Always do, when they have a Lens Rental article?

Canon Full Frame Mirrorless is just around the corner?
webrunner5 replied to IronFilm's topic in Cameras
I can name a 1,000 company's that Used to be #1 or are tits up. Being #1 just means you Always have a Bullseye on your ass. And Canon has a HUGE Bullseye on it's ass. If you think Sony is just going to give up and go away, yeah right. Sony is a Pit Bull in the video market. Canon is the new guy on the block in that market. -
Maybe he gets his kicks seeing grown men act like Jackasses LoL. Plenty of us on here as of late! Funny Shit.

You have to click on the link in the article. He covered all of your concerns. I think you have not finished reading the article. It was just the tip of the Iceberg as they say what you read. https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2018/03/veydra-cine-mini-prime-mtf-optical-bench-tests/

But yeah I can see what Fuji is trying to do, lower the noise floor. That sort of helps on the Photo side but not on the video side, especially F log. It is not the worse thing in the world but it still is not helping in the long run in more challenging situations which creep up shooting video in low light. It is just not as ideal as it ought to be. The X Trans sensor is better colors wise, but it or not so hot at low light. They have made probably a good compromise decision to keep Fuji fans happy. Great colors and pretty good low light. Probably the opposite of early Sony's mindset.
-
You make some good points I can't deny that. No such thing as the perfect camera, especially for everyone. Ever heard of ETTR? I think your thought process is ass backwards. Underexposure is about the worse thing you can ever do. You can't get back what you never had. And I am not talking about physical specifications. The higher you go in ISO the shitter it looks, and Fuji is making you do it just to be where you Should have been to start with..

Well I must admit it is the strangest thread on this Forum by far, Well not too far from the Fuji X-H1 thread either! Has been an interesting couple of weeks on here. Spring is in the Air I guess?

Is the NX1 capable of that much detail on the second picture without some kind of mumbo jumbo?

Not the A7 mk III, but a Sony, Canon, Nikon color test. Interesting results. https://***URL removed***/videos/9193994762/blind-portrait-shootout-sony-a9-vs-canon-1dx-mark-ii-vs-nikon-d5

When you do a Google search you will find the answer to your question. Go down to the conclusion and to the authors statement, and about Iliah Borg who knows just about everything about camera performance, and who invented Rawdigger,, you will find your answer. https://photographylife.com/does-fuji-cheat-with-its-sensors And the Christ statement comes off true to the people that are Not going to buy one. For a site that is pretty much devoted to Video, going goo gah over a camera, that on paper that is about the weakest video camera out there brand wise other than Pentax, Just because it has pretty colors, not Cine like, just pretty, is Pretty bonkers to me and others I have talked to on here. There are probably 5 people on here that even own a Fuji lens. So yeah it does seem like the second coming that you are going to get rid of your Canon, Sony, Panny, etc. and buy a bag full of Fuji lenses, and is well, you know what it is.. Now if you are going to start making a living as a Wedding Photographer sure that might work. 2/3 of a stop is Unimportant in video, really, your kidding aren't you. That 2.8 lens you have now is 3.5. Nah hell it doesn't matter.
-
Yeah but talk is cheap. And that camera Ain't. Same with the Sony A7 mk III. But they all seem to be at 2000 bucks like it or not. I sure would hate to buy one and Canon comes out with a Holly Shit FF Mirrorless in 2 weeks and Oh Boy! But knowing Canon you guys are probably safe.

I have just as much right to say anything that is true about a Fuji than you do. Fuji sort of bends the rules a bit on ISO, it is fact. Plus I don't buy APSC cameras. Waste of time to me. I see no real gain to them. When you state the truth on a camera I am not gong to dispute it. I have all the time in the world to research what I am going to say before I say it. So I back up x amount of stuff up with links if I can. There has been some Bullshit statements about the X-H1 ehh both ways, right and wrong. Fuji is not the second coming of Christ trust me. I am sure it will probably take pictures and video just fine. But just not at my house. I am sure it will be welcomed with open arms in yours. And that is fine. If people, me, make silly statements in the Sony forum please bring it up.I post on Every forum. I have owned just bout every camera brand there is over time. I even have a little piss ass Fuji P&S I have had for 15 years. I would hope, and I am sure others would also like to have the truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God, and well Andrew also. We are all here to learn, exchange stuff. I just hope it to be honest. I would hope you do write in forums you don't own cameras in. There is interesting news everyday that apply to other brands. Experiences of people you know, shoot with, work with. I own 3 different brands of cameras. There is no One camera. Hell this Sony A7s I just bought is the first Sony camera I have had in 4 years. And on paper not much is not known about the A7s so I am not going to write anything about it here. It is old news here. But I am a big Sony fan Sensors wise. Hell they are in damn near every camera other than Canon FF ones and Fuji.. And they might be in the cheaper ones of Fuji for all I know? I think unless a person has a bag full of Fuji lenses I would wait 2 more weeks to see what Canon, Nikon, heck even BM might spring on us at CES soon.

Putting together a lens set - to cine or not-cine?
webrunner5 replied to ThomHaig's topic in Cameras
It says right on the link you provided "Wideangle prime lens | Canon EF, Nikon F (FX), Four Thirds, Pentax KAF, Sony/Minolta Alpha, Sony E, Samsung NX" It is not a m4/3 lens Only. Second link says "Prime lens | Canon EF-M, Fujifilm X, Micro Four Thirds, Sony E" This link says they pretty much weigh the same, use specs.. http://www.rokinon.com/lenses/digital-photo-lenses/35mm-t12 All they do is just change the back flange on most of them. I maybe wrong, but they don't make Any lenses that are FF, only APSC and they work on m4/3. Pretty much every lens works on m4/3, even B4 lenses if they have the 2x extender in them. -
I don't think he did, but it doesn't matter. I am not going to buy the Fuji and you are not going to buy the Sony. Hell nothing wrong with that. We have different likes and looks we like. Hell I just bought the original A7s because I like the look of it better than the new ones, and well it was cheap! That is good for all of us. Hell give Sony some credit for making Fuji and others pick up the pace on the X-H1 or loose sales. Video is taking off big time. And if you aren't sort of up to speed your ass is gone. I am glad Fuji is doing it. They have a lot of followers, rightfully so. And I can also see why IBIS is a big deal to most of the people that will buy it. They have finally caught up with a Olympus E-3 4/3 camera. When Canon comes out with their FF Mirrorless maybe next month we will all be buying it. It will be the best thing since sliced bread, and hell it might be! I know @mercer will be drooling over it. I was telling Jon that I have a hunch that I think it will have a snout just like the new Sigma Quattro cameras do, the SD, HD, so they can use the EF lenses on it without having to buy an adapter. I sure as hell would if I was Canon. It could even house ND filters in the snout. But it may have to be too long, I don't know. Why the hell make all new FF lenses. There is a bazillion of them out there. Hell I might be re united again with them. I have owned a bunch of them over the years. They were the leader for years for a damn good reason. They just seemed to have lost their way on consumer video. I don't get it in the long run. I will take money I don't care how I get it. They have to wake up someday. Cine cameras have to be a loosing business for how few you sell compared to the R&D and production cost. Sony has to be the Only one that is even close to making money on it with all their Broadcast stuff. They Own that market, and have for years and years.

Did you watch the Video?? Max had to raise the ISO 2/3 of a stop to get it even with the Sony! It was dark as hell OOC. He couldn't do it 6400 to 6400. That tells me Fuji lies like hell about actual ISO values. I know everyone fudges it in some way, but nearly a Whole Stop, come on. The X-H1 is not as sensitive as Fuji claims it is, plain and simple. Now the ISO 12,800 on it, you might be right. And if true that is all most people, even on here need to get the job done. You are allowed to shoot in the daytime and buy lights also! I am sure you know more about it than I do. Just not interested in buying it. I don't follow the X-H1, well if you are on here you sort of have to. And if everyone on here that says they are going to buy one does, Fuji will sell 300 million of them! I am not going to buy a new camera system, let alone a APSC one, and all new lenses at my age. I am done with m4/3, and Never have owned a APSC camera, well maybe Sigma Merrills count? I have had several APSH Canon ones. Its full Frame or nothing or bigger for me now. Back to the days when I was younger. There was really not a lot of Great APSC lenses made, now I will give Fuji credit, and even Samsung for some good ones, not like FF has though. Stabilization, I never owned a camera with it in my life other than my Cell Phones. And even then most don't have it in 4k. And you are just now buying cameras with it. How did you EVER shoot before. Poor me. Name me one Cine camera with IBIS in it. And I think that the GH5s is the closest thing to a Cine Camera you can buy for hell half the price of one. If they would have changed the form factor it would be one. It is the buy of a lifetime the way I see it. A Poor mans EVA1. Other than Raw, and that is external unlike the C200, , ehh what are you gaining other than a better body and with a speed booster on the GH5s it is even a bigger sensor. I know there is more, but not 3 times more money worth more. Not many speed boosters I know that are EF to anything for the EVA1? I guess you can use the PL adapter to adapt another adapter, you get my point. Yikes doubt that works out too well. Well l lied, I had a Olympus EM1 that had IBIS. But I used it on a tripod for birding all the time and you need to turn it off in that situation.

I know what heavy cameras are like. I was a cameraman at a TV station lugging around 20 to 25 pound ENG cameras for several years. Some times we used an extra external recorder like this one below for extra recording time, mostly for criminal trials. Hell that thing weighed 19 pounds alone, plus extra batteries. Oh than you have to have a camera, and extra tapes for it, with extra batteries on a belt on your waist. They weighed 3 pounds a piece. Oh and you get to carry a tripod also, with a fluid head from hell on it. No Carbon Fiber ones back then. I would argue that a ENG camera is easier to hold steady than a GH5 is. I probably spent as much time walking backwards than forward as a news cameraman. Try that with a GH4! It takes weight to make that happen. I doubt they hired a 145 pound guy to carry around that IMAX camera. And the trick to heavy cameras is that they are balanced right. Hell soldiers carry 80 pound backpacks on them. What the hell is 50 pounds. I guarantee if you make a living as a handheld cameraman you know how to move it the way the director wants you to or your are fired. If he wants a 100 pound camera to look like a GH5 Somebody can do it in the world and they will hire them to do it. And they have 50 takes, if that is what it takes, to try and pull it off. What we shoot and what Hollywood shoots is in a totally different world. They have endless money and endless talent on both ends of the camera. They use Jibs, cranes, zip lines for cameras, on and on. But yeah I see your point to an extent that it is might look more fluid with a small camera like say a Canon C200 stripped down. But I know of No Cine camera that has IBIS in it. And I bet most use a Glidecam not a Gimbal if they want hand held stable stuff, or hooked to one of those 5 grand vests. But heavy ENG cameras can look fluid as hell also. When is the last time you even saw some jerky footage on the evening news. Probably never, unless they are getting shot at or tripped! Pro's make hard stuff look easy. But 90% of what I shot ENG style, or Hollywood shoots is on a Tripod. I think we are taking this IBIS, Gimbal, Drone stuff too far. It all looks alike, and a lot of it looks alike because it looks like crap a lot of times. I doubt many of us are shooting an action movie. And I can see it for them, and sports, well they have special Gimbals that fit on tripods for that, I have one myself I used for Birding. And I don't see them getting better. Olympus claims their 6.5 stops system is so sensitive that the earths rotation is limiting it. So Looks like they might be at the peak?? And to me it still is not good enough. http://broadcaststore.com/pdf/model/10008/10008.pdf

That was a BIG problem on the original Olympus EM1. Never had any problem with the one I owned though. I hardly Ever use a neck strap, just a hand strap for Photos. But they do use the lug on one side. I always like the shoulder strap that screws into the tripod hole in the bottom. Lot more stronger. I know they had to send the body back to Olympus to fix them. No clue with the GH5. I bet sad to say same deal, back to Panasonic.

termo on DPR wrote this. "I solved the problem with ,,MOIRE,, on my Samsung NX1, in FHD resolution. I used one of the Anti Aliasing & Moire Filter, produced in the ,,MosaicEngineering,, company- (www.mosaicengineering.com) Model filter is ,, VAF-70D ,, created for Canon EOS 70D.... I modified the size of this filter, to be compatible with Samsung NX1 and the results are very positive. Moire is at 70% eliminated" I used to use Hot Mirror filters as they called them years ago on my DCS 460 Kodak digital camera. Worked pretty well. CCD sensors were pretty bad with Morie. http://www.caprockdev.com/antimoire.htm

Good advice.
