I consider that website as 2 steps down from DPR when it comes to video IQ. And that ain't saying much. True, true. Hard to be Cinematic in 4k or above.too sharp. Even the old films were not really sharp other than B&W They were creamy sharp. Some of them are just breath taking. Now I guess some of the Panavision stuff was good at the time for detail, but no film stock is without grain even at 64 ISO, it is comprised of small particles of a metallic silver.

I think you hit the nail on the head. A lot of people on here Have bought a GH5 but are undecided what to do now with the GH5s out. Unless you have enough money to buy both, and Few do, I would imagine, it is sort of unfortunate it came out so quick. They should have introduced them at the same time to be honest. Would be tough to sell one you just bought to buy the other, and giving up IBIS would be hard to do, I can see that for the average person. And to be honest the X-H1 is tempting if you were, and are a big Fuji fan. It is capable of getting the job done for most normal situations no doubt.

SOOC my ass. You can say a Canon T2i has a better color science, it might be better than the GH5s, but it doesn't mean it is worth a crap to compare to each other. Hell this is sort of suppose to be a Cine type forum not a beauty contest. Ohh my Reds are better than your Reds is what is happening with this Fuji X-H1 on here. It is a nice camera but it is like comparing a Sony FS5 to a F55. Both are good, one is great. That is what I think is the difference. It is amazing how few people on here even give the GH5s a look let alone talk about buying one. It is a miracle camera for the money. You can make a living with it. A feature movie. There is hardly anything it can't do. And there is like 20 people on here in a Cine forum that could gives a shit, and there is 1,000 that think the X-H1 is the second coming of Jesus Christ! Crazy place, just crazy LoL.

I have no clue why so many people on here are going Goo Gah over the X-H1 when you can buy this beast for 500 bucks more and get twice the camera. It is out of my price range now, but if I get the money I am having a GH5s.

Pretty bad when you produce something so stupid it becomes a Hit. But I guess since Bevis and Butt-head, which I sort of liked by the way, it has been downhill since LoL.. I liked the "Filth Element" comment in the trailer..

RED and Foxconn to create range of affordable 8K prosumer cinema cameras
webrunner5 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yeah thinking people were going to spend even more money for special glasses for everyone in the family, even friends and relatives, and sit around wearing them for hours, yeah that ought to work out well! -
Like pedal bikes or I am going to die fast bikes? I have some good stories about both. No I have not have 300 of them each. You ought to have money out the butt if you Never owned a car. They are, well expensive to use no matter how you look at it. By the time you figure out the costs, just like a house, it can get pretty scary.

Zak on here has a EVA1. Some of his screen grabs are just beautiful.

Oh my God don't get me started on Cars! I have owned close to 300 cars in my life from Ferrari's to Fiats. And no I have never owned a car dealership or had a Dealer License. I have only owned 3 new cars in my life. But wow I have owned some crazy nice cars. Way more foreign cars than American cars. But when I was young, younger, really neat cars were damn cheap to buy. Especially Foreign high end ones. Lambos, Ferrari, Jags, Porsche on and on. They were too expensive to pay someone to fix them, and rich people just sold them cheap and bought a new one, or a newer one. And I made good money, and had the credit line to buy them. And buy them I did. I just happened to be able to fix them mechanically. And a friend of mine owned a body shop. Bingo. The rest is history. Porsche was probably my favorite, like 18 of them, Lambos next, 7 of them, Corvette, I have owned 22 of them, nearly every model they ever made, and little Fiat Abarths. Rusty little buggers, Alphas, Ferrari's were nice, had 6 of them, but damn stupid expensive parts cost on them. Enzo would Only deal with you when racing season was over. A lot of stuff the factory had to Make for you. No spares. Neat cars for the money you could buy them for, but not fixing them LoL. You are not working on these new cars anymore anyhow. I can't even stand to look at car auctions on TV. Cars that cost a million dollars now I could buy for 15, 20 thousand dollars years ago. 75 thousand dollars Corvettes today were like 4,000 dollars. I feel sorry for young people now. Anything old now is collectable, when I was young old stuff you could hardly give it away. Goofy world. I just sold my 2008 Nissan 350Z NISMO end of last year. Damn nice car. Probably my last boy racer car I will ever own I guess. Driving a 1998 Chevy 3500 Dually extended pickup truck now with a 454 cu in in it. Original paint on it. Zero Rust. It was a Florida car. Using it to pull a 5th wheel camper RV. Gas Hog from hell. I sold my 36' Class A motor home. Just too many goofy things to go wrong on them. And hardly anyone will work on them. Too big. And I am too old now to work on them myself.

Sony has Always seemed to have had the " highlight blue peaking issue". Now this one. Interesting. A Sony A7s is real prone to it.
-
Didn't you just read what Jon just said about the XT2? Hell 8 months later Sony has a whole new camera out, not firmware 2.0! Your using a camera company that is living in the past like Pentax. Trade up and enter the 22nd century. Sony is it. Only Old people like me own a Fuji. Even I saw the light! You probably even still go on DPR. Fuji heh. Did you actually really buy a X-H1? It looks pretty good I will say that. Well I am afraid Everyone is rushed in these days. It is a race to be first that is for sure. Sony sort of started this no doubt. A new camera seemed like every 6 months. Nobody can afford now to be left behind. It is great for us but we are a Ginny Pig for them also sad to say.
-
You can't fix Everything with a firmware update. This thing seems pretty rushed just like Panny did with the EVA1. Sony pushes a lot of stuff out, and hard for others to keep up.
-
That is a pretty crazy result. Did they Test this camera before they released it?? That seems pretty unacceptable. Hmm.

There Is a finite amount of energy in Every battery. Every time energy is used from it it has less than it did to start with. So shorting a battery Does loose energy. A battery Never recovers from energy loss unless you recharge it. Now how long you define "momentarily" I don't know. They loose energy by just sitting on the shelf brand new. Now in a significant way, I will agree with that statement.

You make a good point, but.. he is talking a 2000 dollar m4/3 camera. If you are willing to spend that much why not look at all the options. Unless you buy new lenses, it is pretty damn easy to sell them for what you paid for them used. I doubt many on here has a bunch of native lenses anyways. I see no reason if you have a GH4 to even buy a GH5. What Really are you gaining other than IBIS. 10 bit. Hell we have been using 8bit for I bet as long as most of you on here have even lived! It has seemed to have worked hasn't it. HDR, hell like others have said, I don't know Anyone that even has a 4k TV let alone one that does HDR, I don't have one. So why bother going in debt for something 99.9% of the people can't even see.. So OK my advice, Don't buy a damn thing. Learn how to shoot. Buy better lighting, better audio, better tripod and fluid head. Probably the best gain. And if you are making Video mostly your income you really Need a Cine camera. Even if it is a Canon C100. By the time you rig a DSLR or a Mirrorless it is well, pretty stupid looking, and it still sucks controls wise. If you want to play with the big boys you have to have big boy toys. If not they will probably always win.
-
Yeah Sony, other than 10 bit, pretty much has the video part as good as you can expect for the money. The GH5 series is better maybe, overall video wise features wise, but not in low light DoF. Hard to beat a FF camera. Color Science, it has gotten a lot better, but still not Canon, Fuji territory. For the money the A7 mk III is pretty hard to beat overall. Fortunately we are coming to a point where Sony, Panasonic has Forced all these other company's to up the game. Soon it will be hard to pick a real overall winner. It will really depend on that lenses you have. I think what pisses me off the most is that Canon could come out with a FF Mirrorless that would basically be a C200 in a small form factor, and just take over the whole enthusiasts market overnight. Charge say 3800 bucks for it and be done. Canon would sell a Hell of a lot more of them than they will EVER sell C200's. I see no reason why Sony can't do the same thing with a FS5. Why not. Heat wise they may have to make a slightly bigger body but who would argue with that for the features. Truth be known the Sony A7s mk III might be closer to one than we can imagine. Heck look how close a GH5s is to a EVA1 if you put a Speedbooster on one. It Ain't that far off. And what isn't could damn near be put into the GH5s other than maybe ND filters right now.

@keessie65 You Need to move to Fiji. That is too cold to be on that beach!
-
He means that the Sensor is twice as big. And it is. FF versus APSC. Not twice as better image quality. Since they have roughly the same MP on the sensor, other than low light ability, and DoF, I doubt you can see Any difference other than Color Science. Which I am sure the Fuji is probably better at than the Sony on average.
-
Yeah, A XC20 with a removable lens would be pretty sweet!
-
You might be blind with old age by then LoL. I agree they Should be coming out with something better than the M50 we hope. Gulp.
-
sam finds you a cheap ass solution and you want a XC20, Oh My God!! You have been talking to Mercer haven't you? Sad, so sad.
-
Well since a lot of electrical items surge when you turn them on I doubt there is a huge gain to be had turning them off. But anything that produces a lot of heat when it is on probably Should be turned off if you are not using it. My Monitor is so hot I can sit in my room with shorts on in the winter. It is a gas hog electric wise. Plasma TV's were the worse!
-
Well I know this is not everyone's on here favorite person, but he has some good points on the comparisons. He does the Panny GH5 also.

Pretty eye opening quote! "A 2-hour feature film might easily have a 50:1 shooting ratio (capturing 50x as much footage as ends up in the final film), which means 6,000 minutes of recorded footage. Using our bitrate formulas, we can quickly calculate the space required."

" Micro have a new streamlined 35mm lens adapter for achieving that shallow DOF Cinema look with your existing video camera. The M3 is available in three basic configurations – Cinema Lens Adapter, Indie Bundle, and Complete Package. Expect to pay a special introductory price of $1320 normally $1850 for the M3." Those things were stupid expensive back in the day! That one is the deal of a lifetime! I was thinking of buying one years ago.
