Do you really think the GH6 is going to look any better, or even as good as this GH2 video? Interesting isn't it how we really haven't gotten better output..
-
Sure the people on here making a living doing this stuff want and need the latest. And I am not knocking anyone that wants to buy new stuff, who doesn't. But new in this video game is not always the best overall image for what we really are looking for at the hobby level. Horses for Courses I guess. A lot of stuff I see on the web anymore could have been done with a new iPhone with a lot of skill involved. The gap is getting narrow for normal stuff.

Look at Casey Neistat one of the most successful people ever on YouTube, he could afford any camera there was and he used a Canon 80D most all the time. He had talent, came up with crazy great ideas on shots. The footage looked great. He didn't need a Red or an Arri. He was good and knew how to use what he had. The latest camera is not going to make any one of us really better, skill, talent, understanding every ounce your camera has, desire do that.

Stops and all of that don't mean anything, look at the Canon 1DC. 12 stops, in C Log old tech, a bloated 8 bit Codec. It was just better than they have now. Cystal clear is what they have now. My iPhone does that, a GoPro does that, Drones do that. Sure the GH6 is better, but is it??

Have you ever owned a GH2? If you look on the web you will find plenty of great pictures and I think probably better filmic footage with the hacks than the GH6 does in 1080p My old Panasonic G7 had better looking 4K than my GH5 had to my eyes. I don't think they are going forward at all.

I would think so. It had less MP, but I doubt it has advanced that much, especially from the GH2. The GH1 came out in 2009, the Arri Alexa was in 2010, the GH2 in 2011. The Canon C100 came out in 2012 same year the Canon 1DC did. We have really made hardly any advances in the basic 1080p. Sure we have 8K now and yeah, we get bit more DR because you have stacked sensors, a bit better tech. But nothing is earthshattering compared to 10 years ago other than a somewhat useless MP race. I don't think there has been a camera that had better 1080p than the C100 to this day, And the Codec was on paper crap, or better 2.7k than the original Arri Alexa. Sure, it is somewhat better overall now, but we sure daydream and buy old cameras for a reason, and some have better DR than what we have out new now.

Very well done. Thanks for the footage.

I have always read DR stops as if you can't see some black on the bottom of the stop it is nothing but noise. So, I see 9 stops on the GH6 and 12 on the Alexia. 10 on the BM. If the GH1 would have had Vlog it would be pretty close to the GH6. They haven't come very far. Size matters. Hard for M4/3 to have any edge.

Those days are gone, wake up Emanuel, IBIS has progressed lol. 😉

I feel less confident using the 1DC with the mini than I do with the OG BMPCC with the micro. The cost of the 1DC would be crazy I bet to fix. I use my Zacuto on the flash mount when I am shooting in C Log. No AF in that mode.

I am amazed that the 1DC has a Mini HDMI port, what the hell. Better than a Micro but this was a Pro Cine camera, a $15,000.00 one at the start!

Davinci Resolve 18 is out in Beta, and a Cloud Service they got going also.

I give up lol. If you go to that site and check other cameras other than an iPhone that DR sucks ass. If really true I would not take it let alone buy it.

Seems pretty low, doesn't it?? That is the photo side, video usually is even worse.
-
So, the take away is if you are in a car all the time shooting buy a Canon R5C, if you walk when you shoot buy a Canon R5, but you can't do both with either camera, wonderful.

What about A7700 or some sort Sony apc-s flagship camera?
webrunner5 replied to Amazeballs's topic in Cameras
It seems to me that Sony is finished with APSC cameras. I am not sure even Canon will make any new ones. They have gotten the price of FF cameras so low why bother anymore. -
I have not paid much attention to Fuji as of late but it seems to me they have not brought out Anything new in the last few years. They seemed to have dropped off the radar screen, interesting.

I have found setting WB to Cloudy works the best most of the time in the daylight hours. Gives colors a bit more pop.

From Engadget "N-RAW "records a vast amount of scene information, yet is a significantly smaller file size, allowing for much more recording time and [a] less intensive workflow," Nikon wrote in a press release. The files take up about half the space of equivalent ProRes RAW HQ files (ProRes RAW HQ 12-bit, 4K 24p video has a data rate of 80-140 MB/s). At the same time, they contain a large amount of detail and up to 68 billion colors, something that's very helpful for VFX, editing and color correction."

Olympus and Panasonic top end cameras seemed to always have about 10 firmware updates on them. Not sure if that is a good thing or a rushed bad thing in the beginning? Probably a little bit of both I would guess. Part of it is they seem to take for EVER to come out with a new model as of late.

That behavior reminds me of the Nikon D7100, D7200 cameras, they were pretty much ISO less. You were just changing gain not ISO in reality. So you could just shoot at ISO 100 all the time and change it in post.

Yeah, using a Blackmagic product, which I am a huge fan of, is like going back 10 years ago. Hardly Run N Gun, output wise darn good, ergonomics wise not so hot.

This is Panasonic's hillbilly battery grip that is supposed to work with the GH6. I guess you are supposed to stick a V Mount battery hooked up to it up your ass. 😮 Like my mother used to say when stuff was fucked up, "Some man must have designed it". https://shop.panasonic.com/cameras-and-camcorders/camera-accessories/camera-parts-power-battery/dmw-dcc17

EOSHD changes direction, explained in blog post

Well, there is this diamond in the rough we could expand on and make it full featured. 😮
