But yeah Glenn you are right about using a Canon. I am sure some of the reasons for a 5D mk III was because it was cheap if it was destroyed in a crash, or only be in a small space they needed it to be in. But it looks like this year and last from my memory there was and is a lot of Canon C300, C300 mkII's in them. So a used C300 might be a cheaper way to go sort of big time. They don't have DPAF on the original one, but for a first effort into the C Line Canon hit a home run on it. And it came out in late 2011. Amazing tech for the time. Still hard to beat today! And even older a Arri Alexa was introduced in April 2010. A more amazing camera.

Sure they have after crapping around for 4 years. I am sure even Arri shit around for years also at the start. But I doubt the average person on here can afford to HOPE Kinefity, AJA Cion stay in business, or ever get better that is what I am saying. Hell on paper most of us have been a Ginnie Pig for Blackmagic over the years. They have made it past the hump. But not without a lot of hiccups. This stuff is risky as hell for going to startups if you are not rolling in the dough. I like new stuff, who doesn't, but buyer beware like hell for all it cost to even rig a GH5, let alone a Kinefity 4k. If it fails, Oh Boy. Here is a another breakdown on cameras. https://nofilmschool.com/2018/01/Canon-C300-ALEXA-Sundance-Cameras-Lenses

Well I have a Samsung Note 8 and I can say HDR is some impressive stuff even on my Phone. So if I had the money I would go for it. It certainly is the future once you have seen it. This video here is pretty unbelievable in HDR.

Speaking of cameras. Well this tells a tale of what people used. Arri Alexa used is the way to go I would say over about anything if a person is Really serious. https://nofilmschool.com/2018/01/infographic-sundance-2018-cameras-and-lenses

Man and to think I Almost bought one of those Turd AJA Cion's! At the time it was damn promising. Body size, weight was damn good at the time. Even the price was not bad for a startup. And it is Still a Turd LoL. But wow, just like Red, they kept shitting around and shitting around. I realize a new camera has problems, but why even bother pushing it to the public when in reality you are at about 30% of the process when you want people to put down deposits for one! It's like Kinefinity, same shit. When you Have a project to do down the road you Have to do the damn thing. You can't hope some jackass May get the thing to you, you Have to have the stupid thing to make the project happen. You have to have it ahead of time to even learn the camera. I have no clue in this day and age why some of these manufactures think they can keep pulling that crap off! It's not like Canon, Sony, Arri, Panny etc. have nothing to offer. You are not going to get in there and beat the big boys anymore. Red was a RARE exception to that at the time, and the reason it worked because they were promising 4k when no one else thought it was even sort of possible for a price anyone could ever really afford. Yeah Sony had one if you wanted to pay 250,000 grand for it! I see Nothing Kinefinity, AJA Cion is promising that is new other than a "cheaper" product. Well guess what, you get what you pay for in Cine Cameras. Not ever going to buy a hell of a camera again at my age, but now there is too many bargains out now used to even think about these Odd Ball company's now. Hell down the road it might end up a great camera, but I would not take the chance until it happens. I know someone Has to take that chance or they go out of business, but you can go out with them if it doesn't work out! That is the problem.

Man that is the thinnest video look I ever seen from a Drone. It looked more 2D than 3D. Something about it makes me sort of wheezy LoL. If that is the best that turd can do, or the best that film crew can do well...
-
Oh I won't argue with any of your comments. If you can only have or afford one camera you are not going to buy a GH2. A G7 puts one to shame overall. These new cameras make every ones life easier, but I just think beautiful 1080p output is, well just beautiful. We just seem to be loosing that in these new cameras.
-
I would argue the a hacked GH2 has a better look to it than the GX80 by a mile. Way more BMPCC looking than anything out now, maybe other than a few clips I have seen form the new GH5s. Sure the GX80 was a more refined camera, but better looks wise, nah. I think Panasonic had went backwards until just now for a Cine output look. I always thought a GH4 looked like shit to be honest in my mind. My Af100A had the look also, basically a GH2 sensor. Sometimes progress is really not progress. It's like the Sony FS5. No way it has a better 1080p output than the PMW F3. But yeah on paper it is a better camera than the F3, but not for Color Science, Cine output. But it can do 4k and I can see why people use them , not counting it is a Lot smaller, and the Variable ND thingy is almost worth that feature alone. But better output wise, Nah again. The original Arri Alexa is the same way. I really doubt any new 4k Arri will look better, I am sure they hope it can at least look as good. Kind of crazy to me to think all these company's got it right 5,6 years ago, and have in a sense gotten worse?? Maybe you can't bet a good look with a 4k sensor, I don't know?

Well I am not too sure how much this applies to the average shooter, but I would imagine to the Big Boys in the industry this might help solve a few problems. https://techcrunch.com/2018/01/22/facebook-invented-a-new-time-unit-called-the-flick-and-its-truly-amazing/

I guess he will have to buy one of those cheap wind up Kitchen Egg Timers LoL.
-
Looks pretty nice. I just don't think I would get enough out of a Drone to bother in the long run. My GoPro does mostly what I need for those kind of things.
-
Well no doubt the Media is cheaper for the Production 4k. And it is, and can be a lot smaller footprint. Well when I was considering maybe buying a used BM Mini 4k I ran across this video, and well I decided ehh, maybe not. And at the time the 4.6 was, and still is way out of my budget, So end of that. I still toy with buying a BMCC mft model but just can't seem to push the"Buy Now" button!
-
Why would you consider the BMD Production Camera 4k over the BMD URSA Mini 4K Digital Cinema Camera? I would consider the Production camera, more of a studio camera, inferior to the Ursa Mini 4k, that is more of a Cine camera.. And the Mini 4k is nearly as cheap?

Anybody used a "Line to Mic Attenuator Cable" on the GH5?
webrunner5 replied to JDW's topic in Cameras
Capacitors basically store voltage, they do not reduce it. Resistors do that. Diodes are basically a one way valve, and Transistors are basically a Switch. -
Well that sure narrows down the Cine camera market by a Ton that has 4k LoL..
-
I know it has been said 100 times on here, and by me. IF you Don't need 4k I don't see how you can not look hard at a Sony PMW F3. It is just a beautiful camera output and controls wise. And they are giving them away! I just don't see how a person can do much better than Maybe a used Canon C300. I see those 2 cameras maybe not as good as it can get, but about as good as you need cameras for 1080p. I mean how many of us Really need to output in 4k? 4k is far from some minimum requirement. Sure down sampling from 4k to 1080p is a good thing. But the Canon C300 is already doing that in camera, and the F3 is well, it is a F3, about as good as it gets. It is worth looking into I think. I know you are not a big Sony, Canon lover but hell reality is these 2 cameras have shot a shit pot full of stuff that have made people, hell some, millions of Dollars. Are they wrong, ehh I don't think so. These are two bargain basement Cine cameras with a proven record.

I think 8mm is pretty killer looking in B&W even today. Hey every one you ever heard of who is famous, that is old, started and shot on 8mm.
-
Not sure if you have seen this video or not, but a damn good hands on review of the Mini 4.6. But the Pro is not cheap.

Sony A7R III review - the BBC fixed Sony's colour!
webrunner5 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Man these newer cameras are just scary good at video now. God what one to buy even if you had a good bit of money? From the GH5 up, even the 1' Sensor cameras, crazy good stuff. -
Your thread is just about guaranteed to go down in flames in the Sub Forums on here. Sad fact. Well unless it is in the Anamorphic thingy. And even it probably has been answered 50 times already. Not a Lot new coming out very often involving Anamorphic that any Normal person can afford.

Ahh Hah LoL.

I am not too sure with the C200 and the Panny EVA1 out now that I would go Ursa mini 4.6k for near the same money. Wow I am glad I am not in your shoes. I mean there is the Sony FS7 in there also. Heck nearly C300 mkII territory. Hell nearly a used Arri Alexa. Yikes. I guess it would depend on what ISO's you would be happy shooting with. The production cam 4k is not known for raving reviews. Price is right, but that is probably the reason! PL lenses are a ton to buy, and well true, there probably is a lot of them to rent. I mean All the above cameras I would consider to be Cine cameras, and able to look Filmic, Cinematic. The C200 with DPAF is pretty amazing as a one man band. EVA1 has a damn good Dual ISO thingy, and a Varicam 35 look to it, and Raw is coming for it. I am not too sure these older cameras are the way to go now that we have a new crop pf stuff out. Heck the GH5s I think is going to prove to be a crazy good camera down the road. I think it looks more Cine looking than the GH5. Other than Raw I don't see anything missing it it unless you Need IBIS. Well the AF I guess is not great either, but other than Canon cameras with DPAF, none of the other ones are great either, even the Ursa Mini 4.6. But I don't know crap about the NX1, so others have to chime in on that. I think it has been eclipsed by several new cameras out now. But probably not for the money it cost in reality.

Hmm never looked at that way. That might work. I mean for pure Documentation work, I can see needing the detail. I guess it is sort of like Disco was years ago, in your face. I guess I am just too old for it LoL. I sort of want to Chill out not Burn out! But I guess on a 55 " TV in your living room it would not be in my face as much compared to looking at it on a Monitor 18" From my face.
