Pretty amazing how well the price of the original, used, Sony A7s still cost. Goes without saying, it still is a hell of a good camera. I would like to have one.
-
Main problem with the LS300 is the funky EVF and the flimsy LCD. I have no clue why they did that. I mean how much would that have cost to beef up! Stupid. With the newer firmware updates and the price having dropped a lot, yeah it is maybe the best bargain out there if you are not going to beat it to death. Maybe even better than a GH5 for production work. Heck it is now only $2,595.00 at B&H.

Well I don't even think it is a m4/3 sensor in it unless Sigma just decided to build a one off Art lens for Panny. I don't see why it would be more than a Canon MkII. They are like 4400 bucks now at B&H. They sure as heck are not going to sell one for more money than that camera unless it has some groundbreaking tech in it. Any more than that, Sony FS5 territory. I have a bad feeling this thing is going to be a Hell of a lot of money. If it doesn't have a m4/3 mount, which I doubt, what the hell lenses you suppose to use on it LoL. But I would even think it is going to have to be cheaper than the C100 mkII to compete with a proven product with Canon Color Science, DPAF and damn good High ISO's, unless it is some crazy cheaper Varicam, and I really doubt that happening. But it might be one. I don't think Panasonic is selling half as many Varicams as they had hoped for. Goofy thing to me is why they didn't introduce this thing before the GH5. If it is a really nice camera, for a reasonable price a lot of people are going to be pissed that they just bought a GH5. Seems like a stupid move to piss off your loyal customers? And no, Panasonic does not own JVC anymore. Not for 5 years it looks like. https://techcrunch.com/2012/01/06/panasonic-jvc-kenwood/

Problem is DR just sucks ass, and low light is nothing to write home about with m4/3 sensors. I think it would be a mistake to make it that sensor size on their part. My AF100A is Only between 10.1 to 10.3 on the DR part in reality. That is pretty damn terrible. And the newer ones are not really any better. Not counting the crop factor problem. I sure as hell would not pay 4 to 5 grand for that kind of performance in this day and age. And I bet I am not alone. Now making it like the JVC, well I guess it would work. Might be patents involved. Hmm, we shall see as they say!

I don't think it will have anything m4/3 related. I think they are gunning for the Canon mkII, Sony FS5 crowd. Canon has sold a heck of a lot of 100's, and god only knows how many FS5's Sony has sold. I don't think Panasonic can continue to ignore that market. So I think it will be s35 with a s35 mount. They would look like they just copied JVC if they come out with a LS300 clone. But I guess we will find out soon. It probably is going to be what 95% of most shooters actually need. That is why the above mentioned cameras are selling so well. Hardly anyone Needs a Arri Alexa, or a Red Weapon to do Video LoL. They are mostly for making full blown movies for movie theaters. How many people in the world do that?
-
I agree, I don't see a A9r or a A9s anytime soon.
-
Sony is Not going to sell many A9r, A9s cameras at 4500 bucks! They can forget that Ever happening. Heck you would just go buy a FS5 for not much more. Ain't happening. And if they sell them cheaper than the A9, then those people will be pissed. I think they may have put themselves in a box here. Sony might have screwed up? Time will tell.

Blackmagic 4k video assist is going to add a ton of good stuff to it. Might be a great buy for the money now. https://***URL removed***/news/8519969651/blackmagic-designs-promises-scopes-for-4k-video-assist-monitor-recorder

Sorry the BM is a Recorder not the smallHD.
-
Man I just down loaded and installed the Resolve 14 Beta. Wow a lot of new stuff. And for Audio people Big improvements with the Fairlight stuff! Impressive update.

How many Nit is it? Doesn't really say. 2 to 3x brighter, well ehh what does that mean. Sounds like what i am looking for on my AF100. Price is within reason if Nit is above 1000. Anything below that sucks for daylight. And that is 95% of what time people shoot. Very true, and it is a Recorder also! Hmm 800 Nits, not bad, but not good for daylight. I would go for the used BM 4k Assist then! What 600 Nits? Why the hell is Nit value such a god damn factory secret?? Pisses me off!

Thank you. I have been known to add some COLOR on here! But trying to clean up my act a bit. Well you need to go to a lot of forums and read a lot about video, cameras, equipment, etc. You will be amazed how fast you can learn a lot about all of them to help with comments. It takes time no doubt. I must admit a lot of us, me included, have owned and used a lot of this stuff on here, I find most everyone seems to have a special talent, or experiences on here. Some are script writers who have no use for a camera LoL, and I can see why, or others who can't write, ME, and like cameras. Some are Colorist, Graders, which I am, ehh not too hot at either. So we all have lots to learn. Combine it with Photography and you can have a Hobby that lasts for a lifetime, or something maybe you can move into to make a living with. Or just putz around with it and just do it for fun. Pretty cool stuff. But video can get damn expensive when you consider All the stuff you need. But plenty of used stuff around. And it all seems to last for years and years. Gear wise I guess for the average person newer cameras are the way to go, but for tripods, heads, even lighting, best to go with better used stuff than cheaper new stuff.

Shooting a very long scene. Wow, what a take.
-
Wow Hanriverprod you get it. Cool. I guess we grew up in a different era. An era where it was harder I guess to get what you needed. But you still need to do that on top end stuff. I think that is what some people are missing. Sure you don't have to on a GH5, but you will on a Arri, or a Red, or heck even a GH5 on an important shoot. Now true top end cameras have 3, heck 4 people running each camera, but if you are poor, owning one, or renting one You are the one running all of it! It helps to know more about what makes a video camera work than less, if you are serious about them big time in the end. But not everyone wants or needs to go that far, and that is OK. Like I said above, all us are different, and have different outlooks on things. And that is a good thing. Ahh, I forgot to add, yeah this new False Color stuff on these new Monitors is really terrific tool to use. I have got to get one of them. Damn you are costing me money! Oh and yes we all are lucky as heck that is a Lot of decent cameras and cheap LCD lights out there to shoot stuff with. And YouTube and Vimeo to put it up on. Man I wish I was 30 years younger just to be able to take advantage of what the future brings. This was somewhat impossible years ago to do unless you spent a Lot of money on it which I did 20 years ago. Man the money I spent. And it came to no good fruitful output. Shit happens. My daughter has a ton of my old Sony Extended Definition Betamax, top end Pro outdated stuff sitting at her house in California to this day. Not worth giving away now. Well it could still be used but not LoL. We are talking 500 lines of Resolution here! Great stuff in the day. That was up there with DVD's believe it or not which were 480 lines. How things have changed! I think a whole 3 2/3" CCD block was like 1 MP or less then. That is more than it took for 480i. That on paper was good for 720i, they down sampled it if I remember right. Might not have been that high? Long time ago. Sony was Way above the rest back then. Over scan was in then just like now. 6k down to 4k etc.

OK I am back. I apologize for that BIG TIME RANT. Everyone on here has different views, different budgets, different goals and needs. So guess what, it means we are All different. Not what I want to impose on you, but to help with what you need, not me necessarily. So I will bite my lip, listen, learn, and well, hope top have some fun. I am a old ENG guy as you know. It was old school back then, with nothing auto because nobody figured out them How to do anything auto. But it is a new age, era, whatever. Time for me to learn new things, but I find my old AF100A pretty old school, so I am happy. But If I was going to go on a vacation I guess she would stay home and the G7 goes on a trip. But my long term goal is to own a newer Red or Arri. And they are old school layouts also. So that is why I have sort of stressed learning things most don't want to or need. But I Need to re learn a lot of it to run one. so... Nice to see X amount of people wanted me to stay on, means more to me than you think. Thanks and lets move on as they say.
-
Well I will state this and be done on here period, which I am sure will make a lot of people happy. This whole forum has turned into basically a GH5, G85, 5D mkIII, with a little Anamorphic atmosphere, and that is pretty much it. I don't have any of those, I don't Want any of those. So I will go somewhere else. I know, I hear the applause. It was fun to start with here, but this is more DPR than the EOSHD was, when I started. So enjoy, and I hope it all really works out for you. I really mean that. Goodbye.
-
So you want vladsaysF to just buy a camera, put it on full auto and think he, as he admits in his post, knows basically nothing about video, and expect him to learn how to get pretty good at it, or even Great at it. Well maybe that IS all he wants. And then he should just go out and buy a GX80 and take OK, pretty good video and be happy. You are probably right, but I will be disappointed that he will be Just another P&S style video operator. Not the worse thing in the world, tons of people like that. But I don't think this forum is like that, and he should try for the best output, not just, ehh, a output. Surely we are on here to get damn good at video, not just, well, average.
-
I am not talking full auto like F stops or Shutter speed, that has Nothing to do with changing anything video related. I guess I won't recommend a GH4 now. I guess it doesn't have a Waveform Monitor, a Vector Scope. So it is lacking the tools you Need to learn what a video camera really is. How they can work to your advantage when you have access to Knee adjustments, Black Balance on and on. I guess he will end up with a Panasonic G.. something and take the easy way out. And he will take good video, but not Great video. And he will be at the mercy of the camera, not doing what he really wants, but hey it is not too bad OOC. Heck buy a early Panasonic AF100 for 600 bucks and have a camera that he Can learn on. It will look like shit for months, but he will learn how to make it sing in the long run. My last comment on the subject.
-
Yeah but I bet a lot of you guys have it on Full Auto. That is not how you learn video. You Have to learn Waveform Monitors, Vector Scopes, Auto nothing to say you have Any handle on being great at video. Hell this is not about EASY, this is about him learning how to operate a Video camera. You think my AF100 is easy, a FS5, F55, Arri Alexa, A BM Ursa, etc. is EASY to get what you want. Hell no it is not. They are Hard as hell to do it. And I mean really hard. But when you learn how to use all the Tools they have you get what You want not what Panasonic, Sony, BM, Arri wants. You learn in sticky situations how to adjust things to overcome it. You learn by looking at the Waveform Monitor, Vector Scope that something IS wrong, and guess what, you can change it.. You want this new guy to just buy a damn video camera that you put on Auto to make a video because it is Easy. Wow. He won't learn shit.
-
I would hope the hell so. This is to help this guy that has come on here for advice, on what camera HE should buy, to learn video. Not what we like. You can't tell me with a straight face that a G85 is a better camera for video than the GH4. No way in hell it is. There is really nothing lacking in a GH4. It was the best Video camera Panasonic had until 2 weeks ago. I doubt it is crap this week. To have him buy a G85 JUST because it has IBIS, wow that is a great reason versus a GH4. I would even recommend a Sony A6300 over a Panasonic G85.
-
Oh I could easily give up IBIS for Waveform Monitor, Vector Scope, Anamorphic modes, a Headphone jack, unlimited time recording, better battery life, I could go on. The GH4 is pretty much a dedicated Video tool. Nothing like it for the money Anywhere. If he wants to learn Video I can't see a better tool to do it for the money. I think the Vast majority of videos by a long shot are taken on a Tripod or a Monopod. And the IOS in the lenses do help a lot hand held which all work on a GH4. For casual video, photography I would say sure the G85 works, but not as a total learning tool to learn the craft of Video like a GH4 can do. How many people on here even have a Video camera that has IBIS in it? I would bet less than 20%. I think it is a bit over rated for just doing video. They do sell gimbals for cameras. That flying stuff gets pretty old pretty quick. I have 2 different Gimbals that have not been used in over 6 months that I paid big money for. I used the hell out of them when I first got them. It looks sort of unnatural, and it is. I guess if you want to follow someone, or walk backwards all day it does help LoL. I am not arguing that a G85 is not a great camera, it is, so is my G7, but to learn Video from scratch, I will take a GH4 any day of the week to learn all the ins and outs of making films, long or short.
-
Well to be honest to me it has a BMPCC, BMCC Raw look to it. Be hard to get that look with a lot of cameras. What camera do you have to use Marco, or have access to, that is the bigger question. You talking using a NX1? If so, I don't know crap about them LoL.
