I would imagine it is due to the fact that they would not have been able to process all that data and maintain the 20fps they wanted. The higher the MP count the more data you have. Plus the files would have been a lot bigger for the Sports guys to try and upload to the web, or to the editors. So that would slow them down. And well it would take a lot more memory card space to save it in the camera. Plus the less MP a sensor has the better the high ISO is. You can have larger photosites to gather more light, = less noise.

Matt you are a Sick PuP! Those balloons, well, what can I say. Very well done. I thought the colors on it looked great. Keep em coming!

Gee it only cost $29,995.00. But it is pretty damn neat.
-
Yeah and it looked good also.

You must do Donald Trump's weddings to be able to have someone to afford that much gear!! Really, I mean really?
-
Wow the audio on the bigger guy in the stripped shirt, well what can I say. Total fail. What the hell.

The A6300, A6500 have Terrible looking 1080p. Enough reason for me to Never buy one. Who Needs to have to shoot 4k all the time, or have to down sample it to make it work in 1080p!

I would surely think Canon has a Patent on the DPAF thingy? Well I guess for 150 years film seemed to work for weddings LoL. I know I shot a lot of them with a Hassy and 3 lenses. I am sure the new digital ones can look better. But you end up with 1,000 shots, not the say 100 to 120 I used to shoot a wedding with. I don't have a clue what you could even shoot 1,000 shots of??

Wow that is a pretty slick setup. And the price for the kit is not too bad either. Well done.

Yeah I just figured that out. Learn something new everyday. But it sort of leads to more Rolling Shutter doesn't a Electronic shutter?
-
I wonder what is the life of the Electronic shutter?? 20fps would eat up a shutter pretty quick if you were a Birder, Sports Photog. I guess it would be the curtain that would fail first? Hmm looking it up, I guess a Electronic shutter Has no moving parts. DuH!

Canon 5D Mark IV Officially Adds C-log for $99
webrunner5 replied to Hanriverprod's topic in Cameras
I think you hit the nail on the head. Knocks ML out of the game on it, at least for awhile. -
Wow I would think the mechanical shutter can shoot higher than 5 fps. Well maybe it doesn't LoL. This page has a HUGE amount of specs about the Sony A9 at the bottom. http://www.newsshooter.com/2017/04/19/sony-α9-the-mirrorless-camera-goes-pro/

Oh I am not saying everyone that shoots Canon and Nikon is going to switch, far from it. But if you are just getting into doing sports I think you have to give this camera a damn hard look. A DSLR can not do what Sony has just done here no matter how hard Canon, Nikon tries. This camera is the future, and Canon has to come out with a mirrorless camera to compete with it. And Sony now has a huge lead over them, and they will push harder and harder on Canon. I think Nikon is finished sad to say. They are not financially set to build one R&D wise, or manufacturing wise. Plus you know and I know this A9 will be able to shoot with Canon EOS lenses nearly as well as on a Canon body just like the A7r mkII can, maybe even better who knows yet. If you own the top Canon, Nikon bodies you can no longer say you have the best as of yesterday. You have just lost that edge you had 2 days ago.

Weddings are a bit different than covering the Summer Olympics. I doubt their D700, which is a fine camera, works out that well for sports. But very few people shoot weddings And sports. I have a friend that still shoots weddings on film with his Hassy. Mostly in B&W. He makes more money than the digital guys around him. But he is a rare bird.

That is a damn good summation of what they probably did have in mind in the long run. Food for thought.

I made a living doing Video, Photography for a Long time. I did it in a time when technology didn't change very fast, especially on the Photo side. So to be successful I worked harder, smarter than the next guy. And you have to do that today, but you also have the latest and greatest gear or a person like I was will take your job. That is all I am saying, push hard, and buy the best gear you can, that is the Only way you are going to last 40 years doing it in this day and age. There are plenty of replies on this thread that show how few of these jobs are even left! I don't think you can rest of your Laurels, or gear anymore like you could 10 years ago.

For how many frames, and how fast can it upload to a computer? And that 4fps might be the shot you miss and it gets. Why do we need any camera better than the Old Nikon F5 was? Because they make better and better cameras, and I guess this Sony IS a better camera LoL. If your livelihood depends on a camera I would be buying the Sony.

Well I don't think Any camera that shots 4k video and above, can have anything but sort of a Video Look. There is too much detail in it, which is a good thing. But I do like the clarity, the cleanliness of it to be honest. Sort of like seeing a series of Medium Format camera photos. Like the 6k Photo Mode in the GH5. You are really seeing a bunch of Photos, sure is not going to look like film does. I guess you could dumb it down with a LuT, kind of what Arri does I guess to get a Film look in camera, but you have to admit is was impressive. As far as I know Film is only around 6mp where 4k is 8.3mp, so it Can't look worse. That video looks like when I had my Cataracts taken off when I was 60. Jesus it was the cartoonish colors and sharpness I remember having when I was a little kid. First I had seen that in 50 years. It was like a miracle. And that camera looks like a miracle also LoL.

Well there are people that work their ass off and go for the best and latest stuff, or just keep using the same old stuff. It is your job that is in Peril, not mine, I worked my ass off and made it happen, as I am sure many have on here. Maybe you have too. But you seem to be stuck in the past, and I can't see that being a great thing moving forward. The Gators are Always chomping at your ass in a business like I was in , and I guess you are in. There is not many jobs to be had in it. And now less and less every day. This camera is the future like it or not. And Canon, Nikon will Not be able to respond to it quick enough. If I was still working this camera would have been on Pre Order Yesterday, along with the slow ass, to you, 100-400mm lens! This camera and this lens Will make you money. It will be better than the guy down the street. So it will be you or them. and you will Win. That is what it is and was about, you win, piss on the other guy. That is what puts bread on the table! Nobody remembers the guy that came in second. And yeah I am a old crusty bastard, but I was a young crusty bastard that took a lot of peoples jobs. You have to be aggressive in this business or some young crusty bastard will be taking your job. Even if you work for yourself you have to be better than the last guy they used or, well, you know the outcome. There are a lot of people that want to break into the business, and you have to be better than they are, or you lose. Well as a lot of you know I have my late night rant, and this is it for today LoL. Be good, and get better, or at least try.
-
Well I guess you are one of the people I am talking about. If you think I would buy a Canon or a Nikon over this camera to make a living with in your "business", well. You will be just like them, all doing the same shit, and loosing their jobs like many before them have.
-
I would agree with this. It is not for everyone. Just people that have super tight deadlines in the Sports and Political shooter jobs partially. I can see White House interviews demanding this camera to be used. Those 50 cameras clicking like hell has to be a Big Ass Distraction. Video cameras, No Problem, quite as heck.

Man I am old and I see the future. Some of you young guys come off as dumb as shit! Jesus! I am serious! Do any of you make a freaking living doing this stuff like I did?? I mean to put food on the table, pay the house payment, and all that goes with it, put gas in the cars, make you wife happy, etc., etc.? You take what is out there and make a living with it. You don't piss and moan. Use this camera to make money. How hard is that to do? Yeah we are all going to go out and buy a F ing 600mm f2.8 lens that is 2 foot long and weighs 15 pounds. Those days are done. I owned crazy shit like that. We HAD to buy it. You don't now with cameras that shoot 200,000 ISO! You young guys are Blessed what is out there to buy now. That "target group" is who helped developed this camera and the 100-400mm lens! The Live Feed video showed Pro shooters that worked with Sony on it.

Holly Shit, that video has some serious detail, and i my mind beautiful color in it, especially in the beginning. Christ I have GAS.
