  1. If you are not using DPAF or PDAF you are sucking hind tit on auto focus. Sure nothing is perfect but if you are using a gimbal you sure as heck want reliable AF. Run N Gun you need it unless you are shotting surer wide. With Panasonic's AF you really have a hard time using say EF lenses etc. on them. PDAF is really the way to go other than Canon, it is a lot more useful overall. Even Early Olympus m4/3 cameras were not so hot AF wise other than the original E-M1. It used Phase Detect in them. They are all now pretty good, better than a Panasonic. And in 2022 that has no excuse. I am sure they are going to lose sales even on the GH6 because of it. If it had awesome AF it would be a nearly impossible camera to not buy. I am going to pass on one. I am too old for dealing with manual focus, even for photos. I want to do birding, and it sure as heck isn't going to cut it for that.
  2. If you are really lucky you have friends you work with that you do things together with their and your family, like boating or camping, heck even hunting, fishing. That is when even if your job sort of sucks the enjoyment of friends overcomes it all. Yeah the butt wiping would be a bit rough no doubt, but hey it would probably be worse if it were your mother. 😬 I just had my Gallbladder removed a month ago and I feel a Lot better. I now only feel like I am 93 lol. I am lucky, I am not gimped up so feel great.
  3. Yeah, now Olympus Does have darn good AF. I have had 2 E-M1s and they were wonderful AF wise, stabilization wise, and for photos great color output. Eh not so hot for video but you can't have everything. I would think the E-M1 III might have decent video? I would imagine the EM1x or whatever it's called would be really good overall.
  4. I will be 75 years old in a few days. I could have a son your age. I have a daughter close to your age. It was not about the money it was family time, that you will regret. If you have a 9 to 5 job you like that's not a problem.
  5. If my memory serves me right, they came with a 3/8" adapter screwed onto a 1/4" thread. Maybe someone tried to get the 3/8" off with a pair of plyers or something and screwed up the threads?? Most consumer cameras use the 1/4", Pro stuff the 3/8" and a lot of them both at the same time to help the camera from twisting.
  6. Well, most of the cameras I had years ago were either medium format or view cameras and all of them were look though the camera straight on or a waist level view. And you are right my ENG days. So, a lot depends on what you grew up on and used the most, and yes need for the shot or job. Different stokes for different folks as they say.
  7. Toward the end when I was doing weddings it became a race to the bottom also. So not much has changed I see. But in my market, there was no one at the time that was making or even charging Crazy money. But you had to charge pretty good money because in my era everyone was using a Hasselblad that was taken seriously. And even used that stuff was and still is big bucks. But I gave it up because mostly I got tired of spending every damn weekend doing it! The money was good, and, in my era, people respected each other on average more so there were a lot less Karens and Bridezillas lol. But even back then you spent a lot of time "being found and seen/heard". also. That part I doubt will never change. And that part I think is the least fun part of the game. Being in business for yourself, I have had 4 of those adventures, is a hard way to make a buck. Sometimes even the worse punch a clock job is far better in the long run than some pretty successful self-employment. Stress sucks and it can ruin not only you but friends and family to boot. A lot of times it is just not worth it in the long run. I figured Not being a wedding photographer would not mean me and my family would eternally starve to death, or all end up taking a poison pill to end our lives. We all ended up better not worse because of it. More family time is what most men my age regret looking back at their lives. You can never make that up.
  8. Yeah but god damn if you advertise that you have a camera that has AF in it than damnit it ought to be able to AF, it's that simple. Panasonic has just about the worse AF in the world in their top cameras. What the hell. Big time pros are not using their cameras. It is the little guys who sure as hell are not having focus pullers at their side. It is embarrassing.
  9. Is there a switch or button on the front of the camera you have pressed or turned??
  10. Well YouTube and social media are getting more and more crowed. So you are going to have to stand out more and more to overcome the static good or bad , and sadly it's going to be for the worse. The squeaky wheel gets the grease as they say.
  11. Man, I hate screens that are out to the side. It is so disorientating to be looking at two different scenes at the same time. The one your camera is seeing and the one you are actually seeing out of the corners of your eyes. Ugh. I like looking though an eyepiece best.
  12. One thing you really have to consider is now a lot of monitors, laptops have a setting where they adjust to the lighting conditions in your house, ergo, daytime, nighttime, etc. automatically. Handy as heck to be honest, but not so handy for grading if you forget. Most people don't have the luxury of having a completely controlled environment to grade in.
  13. A lot depends on what race or nationality you shoot. You shoot mixed races together and you had better have some damn good DR. New smartphones are doing better than they really are because of stacking and HDR. But they don't always work so that is a touch and go option. I am surprised how far we have come video specs wise but overall, I don't think we have moved as far as we think, look at the earliest BM cameras. great DR for the time. You still now have to buy some big ass, expensive as heck camera to get great consistent DR and great midtones.
  14. Nothing wrong with buying a used one. They have no moving parts so unless it was dropped from a high height, I see no reason other than a newer model being out not to buy one.
  15. Yeah I am shocked how advanced Smartphones are compared to cameras. You would think they would have woke up by now?
  16. Well I am sure before the movie even starts the producers and the director get with them to tell them what mood they are shooting for in the movie. They don't have the final say on how it looks.
  17. You must squint a lot lol. If you have Ever owned a BMPCC and shot in Raw you have seen the light and the dark as they say. You Ain't buying some fucking early Canon camera unless it shoots Magic Lantern I can tell you that. I grew up when TVs probably had 5 stops. Not going back to that shit.
  18. Yeah the whole world is on the way down not up. Scary shit to be honest.
  19. I had one of those exact ones. I F ing hated it, sold it in 2 months and bought a BenQ and love it.
  20. That common mantra statement sort of gets into "Ignorance is Bliss" lol. Sort of like Politicians, if you are all stupid we all appear to be really smart.
  21. I don't think Olympus even knew what Video was until the last years they were in business. 😮 Sort of the same with Panasonic on the Photo side. They both picked their Niche.
  22. Yeah but there is and was a reason so many company's used a Sony sensor was they had good DR. A Barbi Cam had better DR than Canon cameras had years ago.
  23. Yeah buy the NEC PA301W, not going to find anything better for less than 300.
  24. Yeah I was into to it also for 10 or more years. High end audio is like owning a 40 foot power boat, endless money pit. And what is funny by the time you can afford to do it you are already losing your hearing. So a big waste of time and money.
