Wow that Red is almost off the chart on all their stats! They will have to make a bigger, longer chart LoL. Jesus crazy good, but for like nearly 50k or more I guess it ought too. That ought to help Red with getting back into favor with the big boy movie shooters. Most have just gone to the Arri Alexa XL. Red was just giving DoP's new Reds to shoot with, so hell yes you will use them. But now I think they are even paying for the Arri's to use because they are hands down the most Filmic looking. Arri has their stuff together on that. But Wow 8k, they will be able to do a lot of VFX on the new Red. Arri has some catching up to do I guess now.. They are just barely producing 4k. Hard to believe that a tiny company like Red can come out with so much crazy ass good stuff. I had a original Red One on order years ago, deposit and all, they were like 5 grand if you made early down payment, and I just gave up on it. They shit around for nearly 2 years before they did have one shipping. The project I had set up for it faded into the sunset. My daughter and I have it all planed script and all. She was in California and had access to all we needed. She has a degree in creative writing. She still lives there. But that was a long time ago. You just have to move along. She still has a lot of my old Sony ENG cameras, tripods, recorders from what I had back in the day. I used to own a ton of stuff years ago.

Well I guess this is what the new Samsung Smartphones are going to be. I still have a old Note 4, and it takes pretty amazing 4k videos. So does my iPhone 6s Plus. http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/samsung-galaxy-s8-news/

Well it looks like using the XL Metabones does lock up the camera. So I guess none of them are ready for Prime Time yet. http://www.newsshooter.com/2017/02/06/panasonic-gh5-more-tests-with-the-metabones-speedbooster-xl-0-64x-and-sigma-18-35mm-f1-8/

Looks promising. Nice work. Why is there so many Redheads there??? I thought that was an Irish thing! Half of Ireland move there LoL?

More fuel for the fire to Ponder. 5D mkIV is getting more interesting by the minute. http://www.canonrumors.com/c-log-update-to-canon-eos-5d-mark-iv-not-just-a-firmware-update/

Yeah I was thinking how hard it is to take good stuff with my Af100A, and in reality how easy it is to take stuff with my Panny GH3 I had or the Panny G7 I still have. They work right out of the box, on Auto, nearly producing perfect stuff if you just need to get what you Have to get.. Yes there is no excuse in this day and age to blame a camera. Or even Have to have a high dollar one. It really rest on the shoulders of the users skill set, not the limitation of the cameras anymore. And with editing software now, with a million different LuTs, you can pretty much make anything look like anything in a sense.

Well you have to remember that the original AF100 was basically 5000 bucks when new in 2010. They were into Sony Pro territory with that much money. Sony just has too much money, engineering talent to try and take away business from them. Not counting serious brand loyalty in their products. I mean they have been Sony has, the 8000 pound Gorilla in the video broadcast business. No one is even close! They have to be the first company you look at if you are buying new or upgrading. Heck even now except for Arri on movie stuff, they don't hold any grip on Broadcasting, neither is Red a threat on that front, they still control damn near all of the Broadcast other than Panny in there with their Varicam, and I don't think that is doing as well as they had hoped. You just are not going to unseat Sony for Video. They have a damn proud proven record and as a buyer, producer in TV, even hobbyist you know they are not going away. And they always come up with some killer ass upgrade path that is the Carrot from hell. Look at the F35, F65, Jesus that was some, and still is, amazing cameras. They are God when it comes to video. They have amazing talent at the engineering part of it. They ARE driven. You can't loose with them if you have the bucks, and it takes Big bucks, in the long run. Look at the Sony A7s, we take it for granted now, but it was, and still is, the camera from hell for low light. It is almost like a miracle. And hell what will the A7s mkIII be. Grab your ass probably.

Yeah the second link on the C100 proves that Canon was changing the whole sensor on it to enable DPAF. Hell if they redesign a whole sensor, making shit happen in the 5D mkIV is not out of the realm for them. They will not be coming out with a new one for years, unlike how Sony does. They don't want some slow ass selling, outdated thing hanging around for 2 more years. Well at least I hope not!

Wow that was a Serious piece of Kit back in the day. Heck you could still make some good stuff with it today. Looked it up, it was $3,199.00 in 2000. Not chump change LoL. It is amazing how many Sony Handycam cameras they have made, and Tons of Pro video cams. Sony has Always taken video in a serious way.

Oh yeah, Video camera GAS is pretty awesome or we would not be on here! And Andrew keeps buying the camera of the month to taunt us into switching! I think he does it on purpose LoL.
-
You know we are damn fixated on the camera end of the equation, but what if were twice as good at editing, grading, audio, 3 times as good or more? I know that is my weakest Link. I would think that would have more of an effect than our cameras in the end. Thoughts.
-
Very true. And like they say, Story is still King. You could shoot a killer script on a super 8mm camera and win a Oscar for Cine Photography. Oh my God, don't let mercer see that statement!! I must admit 14bit output on the 5D mkIII is pretty damn Cinematic looking. Along the lines of a BMPCC. But yeah a pretty big hassle to do it. But nothing good is easy as hell to do or everyone would be doing it.
-
Well I will be the first to admit Panasonic is sure as hell not noted for a Cinematic look on any of their cameras other than the Varicam, and it is not selling like hotcakes I think. But Panasonic has brought damn good video cameras to the masses, for not a heck of a lot of money. They have pushed the envelope as they say pretty far.
-
Yeah I admit I am not in the least way excited about the GH5. Heck I never had a GH4 either. Way more cameras I would buy, maybe a bit more money than the GH5 if I had 2000 bucks to spend. There are 15 thousand dollar cameras out there for close to the same money used, that were 15k for a reason back in the day. They are a bargain in this day and age.
-
Ah lucky dog. I was wanting a C100 mkII. Just sort of out of my Pay Grade as they say. Being retired it is pretty hard to justify it, but damn, if I was younger, working overtime, I would have to have one. You made a very good choice buying one. Grats. Yeah I am pretty impressed with the AF100. No regrets. Like I said, a great learning tool. And so is the C100. Kind of a no excuses cameras. If it is not good, it is because You are Not good thing.
-
Yeah I have had 3 Sony A7 series cameras, mostly as photo cameras, and I loved them. Sony is doing all of us a favor for going for the throat on their cameras. I even had a old A100 Sony. It was pretty awesome back in the day except for noise above ISO 400 then. But every camera sucked with noise back then.
-
Heck we all suffer about it, that we don't have enough of it. If I had a ton of money I would be down in the Keys drinking Corona's and fondling my Arri Alexa XL. I would not be any better as a filmmaker because of the camera, and that I would probably be too drunk all the time to use it very well anyway. Oh and on a grim antidote. I have it in my will that when I die I am going to be cremated and my ashes thrown off the back of a boat, buried at sea in a sense, in Key Largo, my favorite place on earth other than maybe Naples, Italy. A old sailor thingy.
-
Sure we are, or we all would not be on here. We all are Crazy in a sense LoL. Ahh he is a Nikon man at heart. Who hasn't had a Nikon in their life that is older, and a soft spot in your heart for them. My very first Real camera was a Nikkormat when I was in the Navy @ 19 years old. Bought it used in a pawn shop in Key West, Florida for 65 bucks lens and all I think was the price. Christ that was like Only 50 years ago. Jesus!!!

Well Jason Lanier seems to have made a shitpot full of money using a A6300, A6500 shooting weddings and such!! I agree, why the hate?
-
I see what you did there, hmm I think?

Well the Arri is a s35 sensor using 16bit Codec. I would hope it is better LoL. Oh and they cost 45,000 bucks. Well we agree to disagree on what is a better camera, AF100, GH2. I have had one, and a GH3 also. I would still have them if I thought they were Better, and I am not talking about handling. The G7 I have makes the AF100 look bad in certain ways. Other than using it in 4k I would NEVER shoot it in 1080p and use the output of it over the AF100. Not even close. It looks like, the G7, like a freaking digital camera. I hate digital camera looks, and I am not alone. Now if I was shooting ads for clients I guess I would go for the sharpness in 4k. Even down sampled down to 1080p. I am sure the client wants to see his or her widget stand out. That sort of sounds obscene. But that is not Cinematic, Filmic, and that is why I bought the AF100. But I guess those qualities do not pay the bills sad to say. And if lots of people agreed with me they would still be selling the AF100. Point taken.
-
Oh that GH2 stuff it a total line of bull. The Af100 has a way better Cine look to it. I have 200, hell 300 bookmarked things in a folder that say just the opposite. Sharp does not always equate to better, and the GH2 was not really any sharper. The AF100 can be made to look even sharper. It had a lot better sensor in it. That is not what a AF100 was, and still is not about. Would you call a Arri Alexa a Sharp camera. I would not. The AF100 does not have a digital camera look, just like a Arri does not either. Not saying a AF100 is a Arri by any means, I wish! But yeah, the AF100 was no beauty queen at handling highlights. That be true. But I have read a lot of comments about it taking 4 to 6 months of using a AF100 to get pretty good at one. That just shows how complicated it can be to use out of the box.
-
No it was not a run away hit for Panasonic. The research I did before I bought this camera, and that I still do was I think would killed it more than Anything was people did not have a Clue about m4/3 sensors at the time. You have to figure the GH1 was the camera that Panny had out at the time. I think they were afraid to use them. And no Speedboosters were out, etc, etc, at the time either. I think tons of people Still think a 4/3 sensor sucks ass to this day. They are so wrong.
-
It is a AG-AF100A. The last series they made. well not the last camera they made LoL. I really have no clue why the GH5, well it would not be called GH but, why the hell they did not go back to the AF100 form factor. Jesus it would be a dream camera. They are very well laid out, and for a guy my age, 70 in April, it works out damn well both the EVF, and the LCD. As you can see you can See the body, and change the lens with ease. And you can buy the original AF100's for hell Ike 500 to 600 bucks. I got my AF100A as a new refurb for $996.54. Yeah it is Only 1080p but I have my G7 for 4k stuff and as you know they are pretty damn good for that. I think the AF100 if for nothing else is a hell of a great teaching aide for learning how to set up Pro style cameras. This thing has 100 things you can change, and on paper none of it is really uses Auto. I mean it does AF native lenses, but I only have one of them I use. The rest are manual focus. I love how yo can use B4 lenses on them. Well you can on all the m4/3 in reality. What I found that was pretty amazing stat was that the AF100 was the very first large sensor camera made that a person could actually afford to buy. The Sony FS100 came out soon after it.

What brand of synth, or sampler you using?? I was into them ah 20 years ago or more. I had a lot of Moog's in the day, 3 Kurzweil's, several Sony's, like 4 Roland's, Emu's, 3 or 4 of them etc., etc.. Just about went broke buying them Lol.
