Why not buy a used Canon C100? All your lenses will fit, and if you get one with the DPAF they work pretty well focus wise. And if you take the top handle off they are not much bigger than your 1Dc. I know it is not FF but you are talking a real video camera..... Ahh I didn't see the 4k part. Never mind LoL. Does it having a 4k sensor in it count?
-
Well I sort of disagree. When you put a Speedbooster on the GH5 you will be at APSC size sensor, that is Bigger than a s35 sensor is. So what is a problem with that other than having less DoF than a FF A7, and I will admit better low light ability, but we are allowed to buy lighting. I bet there is not Any scene in a top, say 100 million dollar film, that does not have one frame without some kind of lighting, or a bounce board, umbrella in it. And I don't get this "I have to have razor thin DoF" thing anyways. There is no way you can keep stuff in focus at F0.95 for frame after frame. Still photography well yes. The A7 series sucks on overheating, does not have continuous time shooting, no articulating screen, no touch screen, battery is weak to say the least, no 10 bit, and I don't think I would rather have one of those over a GH5 with a Speedbooster on it to shoot with.

Wow this graph from Thom Hogans web site is not too promising for Panasonic!! I know the last 2 years sort of missing, but you could have Samsung, Leica, Fuji, etc. in the mix. Olympus seems to be doing damn well?
-
Thank you thank you. I think, like I have said, Panasonic has given us a gift with this camera. And heck I bet it would also make a damn good vacation stills camera also, and a every day one. Not a bad deal. With the 6k Photo mode another reason of you can't loose. I have no clue how Sony can even touch it with the A7 series without raising their price a Lot, and they are a Lot to start with even now. Not that they are sort of killing people price wise on a full frame camera now, but can they charge 4000 Dollars for one to outdo the GH5?? I don't think so, but who knows. They are going to Have to add a articulating screen, touch screen, bigger body to disparate the heat, bigger battery, on and on. I don't see it happening for the same money they charge now. And that is still 1000 bucks more than a GH5.
-
I think it is a little, too little, too late to save their asses on it. They should have fired who ever OKed to make the specs on that dog a long time ago, video specs wise!
-
Well l do respect Shane a lot, but I really don't think many of us on here are going to be trying to match our cameras to the Reds, or Arii's we are also shooting with! The GH5 is a 2000 Dollar camera! Is it a Arri Alexa, a Sony F55, a Arriflex that Sam Peckinpah shot, with one off lenses, in slo mo from hell, well no. It is probably the best camera that 90% of us could Ever afford, new or used! Can it sort of look like a Canon 5D mkIII in raw, BMPCC in Raw, you bet your ass if you can grade worth a shit. This is finally, a no F-ing excuses, for the masses camera. This is a camera just like the Panasonic AF 100A I just bought, that you can stop pissing about the camera and blame your own ass if it comes out good or not, both shooting with it, and editing, grading with it. Well I do wish it had the AF 100's form factor but, this is the Camera where the Rubber meets the road thing. Time to put up or shut up. It is here to take advantage of, and go out and do it! It really is that damn simple. Make It So, or find another job, or another hobby. Excuses are in the Past Tense with this camera with all the updates they plan in the summer to have you can install. Hmm, end of rant today!
-
You know since I have bought this Panasonic AF100A I have realized that my "editing skills" sort of well, ain't so hot. I guess we get caught up into having to have the latest and greatest Camera, and forget the final output is probably more important than the camera! I bet the best editing guy will win shooting a Canon T3 99% of the time over the best camera guy using a Arri that sort of sucks at editing. But I would imagine it is pretty hard to be great at both. Speaking of editing, man if I had this guys talent, I would, well I would be better that's for sure. I was in sort of a depressed mood until I watched this video!
-
Well I can't say his logic was failed. His points are pretty valid. There is a reason top end cameras have 12bit, 14bit etc. And why Raw on even a small sensor camera like the BMPCC still kicks some butt in this day and age. But yeah Sareesh.
-
Wat!!! I know it is a Lot cheaper, but heck the GH5 will be viable for 3 to 4 years at least as top of the heap that we can afford. Even if a new Sony A7mkIII comes out and tops it I would not be able to afford it. I can sort of afford a GH5. And it would match my G7 and AF100A.
-
I have no way of knowing for sure, but I would "guess" between 35 to 40 for CinelikeD, maybe 32 to 35 IRE for V-Log?
-
Well I am no wizz on the math involved, but 1080p, ergo HD, all that is needed is only like 2mp delivery wise. So these new cameras I don't care if they have a 100mp, they are not using but a tiny bit of it to output 1080p. Now, 4k, 8k, that is different. 4k is 8mp, 8k is 33.4mp or something like that. But hell most everyone only has a TV that ouputs 720p and that is only is 1mp. So yes, that is why stuff you shot 20 years ago still sort of works. Some of it then was only 480p. Heck Vimeo has a lot of crap on there that is 480p. We are blessed with what we can buy for hardly nothing now. My Panasonic G7 comes to mind, Hell 4k for less than 400 bucks, crazy.

I don't want to derail this thread, and maybe 60% of you have seen this video or more, but it is very informative to what we are talking about on this thread, as well as this web site. I know it is 3 years old, and the end of it is well, Arri based, but I think it tells us we don't need as much as we think we need resolution wise, or can Afford to storage what we shoot. Long story short is, I think if you can live with the form factor of the GH5, you have to be crazy not to buy one. It appears to be that good once the firmware updates are released. http://www.moviemachine.tv/video/rodney-charters-bm-pocket-camera,-4k-acquisition-and-alexa/112820539/ I sure as hell can't argue anything about your post. Very well thought out reply.
-
I think we can all be pretty confident that Panasonic will keep their promise, yeah maybe in September instead of June but.. This camera with a Speedbooster on it is sort of becoming a poor mans Sony FS7 for 1/4 of the price.
-
It looks kind of gimped in the roll out, but really picks up the pace in the Summer IF it all comes true, which I am sure it will, but why, after this long, are they not doing all of this at launch??? This sort of is like Olympus on the EM1, it was twice as good of a camera 2 years later than at launch. They had a ton of Good firmware updates on it, but what the hell, did the software engineers go on strike at the launch date or what. Sad to say Panasonic is following suit.

Best I have found. "GH5 Firmware Upgrade Path: 4:2:2 10bit – Available April, 2017 6K/24p Anamorphic Video Mode (4:3) – Available Summer, 2017 (200 Mbps) FHD 4:2:2 10bit ALL-Intra – Available Summer, 2017 (400Mbps) 4K 4:2:2 10bit ALL-Intra – Available, Summer 2017 V-Log Color Profile – Available at launch, Cost: $100 6K/24p Anamorphic Video Mode will be available in a 4:3 aspect ratio in the Summer and the very fact we are talking about getting 6K, or close, Anamorphic out of a $2,000 MFT body is exciting. Panasonic is calling this upcoming mode: “High Resolution Anamorphic” as it is 6K resolution in terms of pixel density, but not 6000 pixels of horizontal resolution. **Update: The camera ships with Anamorphic 4K (4:3) with H.264 compression enabled. Come Summer 2017, 6K (4:3) will be shootable in H.265 compression with free firmware update. Firmware schedule below." update on the update! "Color depth is improved and the GH5 will eventually shoot internal 4:2:2 10bit, compared to the 4:2:0 8bit of its predecessor, but launches with 4:2:0 8bit only in IPB compression. 4:2:2 10bit color is double the information of 4:2:0 and provides greater grading flexibility in the post process before the image falls apart."

This video has some pretty good ideas on using a Monopod. Poor mans slider, etc. etc. Yeah IBIS has some damn good uses for us. It has come a long ways.
-
Well it's not that they don't work, it is that they work with compromises. They don't work with all lenses, the quality of the glass in the unit is not as high of standard as Metabones, on and on. If you can live with those well sure it is a cheap out. I admit Metabones is, in this day and age, probably ripping us off total cost wise. But I have never seen a cheaper one as good as a Metabones, and I doubt we ever will. Bottom line, output will not look as good. And since most people are using a video camera that does not have a top output to start with, well you get my point. But we can't have the best of everything, so we Have to cut corners, and maybe you are right, this is one way to do that. Decisions, decisions. Oh, and when I see a Amazon rating of 3.6, yeah 3.6! I MIGHT want to look elsewhere. They might know what I expect, Not So Good.

I don't really think people are going to be selling their Tripods using this camera! You are not going to hold a camera for minutes, hours and be a happy camper, and I would bet you would want a Barf bag when you watch it After a few minutes. Now the Rolling Shutter, this does look like a big improvement. Do we want to make movies where we are Flying all the time, I Really doubt that. That shit gets old quick, just like VR does. I have 2 electronic Gimbals and to be honest both have not been out of my house in 2 months. It is by no means realistic, it is phony looking and it shows. Just because we can do it, does not mean we should! Just write out the part where we are running down a path crap for 10 minutes, and do short takes at different angles like we have been doing for years. Short duration flying well yeah, half the movie hmm...

For all you guys and girls in England, hell free money! http://mathersoflancashire.co.uk/category.aspx?cid=0&id=173

Breaking: Fuji is developing ultimate APSC video camera
webrunner5 replied to wolf33d's topic in Cameras
Yeah I remember that you could almost walk on the water in the harbor when I was there from sewage and garbage. It was always sort of brown, not good LoL. But I found it was sort of a working class city with a lot of nice people in it, more so than I ever found in Rome. Reminded me of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania years ago. But way cleaner believe it or not. Steal Mills did not help with their smoke stacks. And hell yes, they had some amazing food in that city. It was neat with Pompey and Isle of Capri there also. I miss it warts and all. Now Paris, France where you live, now that is a different story altogether. Ahh the French, hmm, as I like to say LoL. Neat city for sure. Too cold there for me, I'll take Naples and the seafood, and pizzas. Oh, and thanks for the link. -

Heh, No AC, well Adios!! I can see that reason there! Times have changed all over the world. I have been nearly all over the world, but I think of all the places I have been I would have liked to live in Naples, Italy. But that was 50 years ago since I have been there. I bet now I would probably pass! -

Yeah that is why I have not even considered it. IS it worth that much, well I guess maybe, but not in that form factor to me. I can't justify it as a hobby, and I hate the form factor. So easy decision for me. For some, well not so easy, but I see a pattern that is not good, company's see declining sales and for the few left that will upgrade they are going to make as much money as they can off of them. Sink or swim, but actually it is swim or sink. I can see there point but hell I can't afford the bodies or lenses anymore, or can I justify them without making money doing it. So new stuff is out of my price range I guess forever now. Not that that is a bad thing in reality for me. I don't Need to do it. -

Wow, when I was in Vietnam they paid me to live there in the US Navy doing things that well were, well my job , easy way to put it, well no, not easy.. Was not a good time for anyone sad to say. 1966. But $300.00 does sound like a lot to me also. Interesting, I would think it would be a lot cheaper now. -

That is Very true, that is why I just bought a brand new AF100AP for $996.55!!!! I can't afford that stuff, I am retired, and I never really could, well I could when I was younger, but I was also into sporty cars, and fishing boats, photography, etc. all at the same time, not counting having a family..
