Apple has Never used a AMD processor in any box or laptop computer they have ever made. So in essence they are incompatible. I am no computer wiz,, but I am no dummy on them either LoL. I have tried to make them work No luck on a consistent basis. Too risky with video footage. YMMV No saying nothing Mac based will work, but later OIS won't, and if you do get it to work, you can NEVER upgrade the operating system to a newer one with a AMD processor. You have to blow away everything and start over with newer update. Plenty of info on line for trying it, but not much to write home about working like it can with a Intel Processor. And that does work fairly well. Pretty much what a Power Mac was years ago. A dual boot system.

I don't know of any that are autofocus. But there is a hillbilly one on here that sort of does....LoL. But yeah a single focus one would be a big help, but they are expensive. I am no wiz at Anamorphic. My brain is distorted enough without the help of Anamorphic. I don't think many even fit inside of a Gimbal because of length, or they are front heavy as hell and overwhelm the stabilizer. They are a good odd duck. I would buy a Glidecam if I was you if you want to stabilize it, they can be had cheaper than electronic ones. But once you re focus, carr putt, un stabilized again. I do have one that does work with the autofocus on my iPhone, a Moondog Labs 1.33 Anamorphic lens. They work damn well.

It was pretty much tongue n cheek on my part, but... Bad music you can live with, like turn volume all the way down, shakiness well.... Welcome Aboard. A little advice. I have been doing video a Long time. The first 2 videos you have the music is still too crazy on them. The third one was perfect. If the music is loud and crazy, guess what, you listen to the music and ignore the video. Now if your doing a Music video you win, but the first two were sure as hell not meant to be that type. Music has way more of an effect than you think in a movie, even lowering the volume in it changes the mood your heart rate, your interest, you get the point. Audio is as important as video to succeed. Over and Out.

This ought to make Ironfilm happy! The videos are long gone but the outcome is there on the stills. http://www.provideocoalition.com/f3_vs_af100_vs_5d/

Well Steve Job was smart as hell for Giving away Apple computers to Schools both grade school, High School. Guess what they are hooked. Who the hell wants to learn another Operating System. Who wants to be seen as a outsider in College. Heck I live in a small College Town, Home of Miami University of Ohio, not a small college, 28,000, we are out numbered 2 to 1 students to residents wise. Hell they all wear the same stuff, shoes, pants, jackets, Yoga pants, not complaining about that!, computers to boot. But I was the same way, in the same school, wow, going on 52 years ago.

My thoughts on the Kipon Medium Format "Speedbooster"
webrunner5 replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
Yeah good question. I have owned a ton of MF rigs, and other than "Resolution" ergo print size output, I never seen a big difference in the quality, by that I mean look, build, feel of the lens and look on the final print compared to say Nikkors back them. Some of the Zeiss stuff was of better quality, but...then there was Leica back then FF. And heck Zeiss makes all formats of lenses, from 8mm to god only knows size. -

Well you started out very well LoL. Welcome aboard. Nice footage to express your point. Info = Pentacon Six Kipon, A7S, external recorder. Another reason for me to buy a A7s, damn it! No end. -
My thoughts on the Kipon Medium Format "Speedbooster"

I kind of thought it had to do something with the angle of light rays that enters the lens, to the sensor it has to travel, shorter distance the problem with smaller sensors?? Smaller lens opening. -
My thoughts on the Kipon Medium Format "Speedbooster"
webrunner5 replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
The biggest advantage of moving to a larger format, even if it is film based or digital based, is Lens Diffraction, ergo the lack of it. The bigger you go film, sensor area wise the bigger you can go F stop wise or actually closed down. I know it is always ass backward. That is why there was a F64 club back in the Ansel Adams, Weston days using 8 x 10 cameras. You can get tons of stuff in focus without distortion. Maybe not totally stopped down but damn close. That is the big problem with m4/3 it creeps in a f8 a lot and damn sure is at F11. So this Speed Booster could be damn interesting for that reason alone. -
Wow really nice video. You would be damn hard pressed to tell what camera shot that footage. And you would guess it was a damn good camera that did it. This just goes to show that a darn good camera with darn good grading skills beats just about any conception that you need a Arri to make stuff happen. Nice find.

Well the best ones I have used, and read about being "Better" are Panasonic native lenses. Non are fast focusing on it. But OIS does seem to work. The few Canon lenses I see seen to be the cheaper STM ones. They are wide if you want, have OIS, cheap. The old favorite is the 24-105mm F4. No speed demon light gathering wise or focus wise, but it does ha a good range an OIS with a Speed Booster. Big heavy lens though. The Panny 20 1.7 is my favorite walk around one. It is a damn small package. Slow focusing no IOS though, not that wide on a BMPCC, but fast aperture.. BMPCC is not going to be a Olympus EM1 mkII for imagine stabilization! We can only wish for that LoL. It is becoming a realization that it is damn nice not to have to carry a damn tripod, Gimbal that is for sure. Envy on that point if your Nikon D5500 is making that happen.

Yeah you are right, the ship has sailed, and it is not heading to Japan and Nikon that is for sure. Apple and Samsung has cleaned their Clock.
-
Well I never used any Nikon camera for video, I realize they are not as bad as people might think, but a Pocket is for the money I think impossible not to have, just for the hell of it. It is sort of like a cheap movie camera of the 50's 60's, a thing that makes you smile when you kook at it's output, good or bad. It is different, and a damn good different. It is great different.

What the Berlinale film festival taught me about Cameras
webrunner5 replied to Ed_David's topic in Cameras
Now that is pretty low LoL. Maybe he will pay for your round trip airfair too! Young guys and want money to boot. Make him carry it all the way walking home! -
Yeah great product, but isn't it sort of a Mac OS product only?
-
I thought it looked about right except for shots with people in them. Then it lost too much sharpness. Maybe at 75 to 80 percent could work? But Mattias had this in a topic he replied to you awhile ago. This IS the look you are looking for, just do it LoL.

Sounds like a Plan!

Probably along the lines of a XA10. I don't want people calling Homeland Security because I have a big honking video setup. I will be in neighborhoods I don't live in at all, so I don't want to draw any more attention that I need to. It ought to be interesting either way. I am sure someone will want to come out and kick my ass because they think I am a pedophile or something. I am sure this will be a run n gun thing. Run to the damn car as fast as I can go, and Gun the throttle when I get in and go like hell. This is a city of 70,000 people. So it has some damn bad areas as most cities that size do. I guess a stripped down C100 would work also. That would be nice to do with the DPAF update. But it would require a heavier tripod is the problem.

Yeah I feel your pain. I don't think I would ever go back to trying to make a living shooting video. It was a long time ago for me, but even now with all we got gear wise, editing wise, shooting video is a giant, expensive, royal pain in the ass. You Never feel comfortable doing it, and like you say lighting changing all the time, people moving around, pretty much an impossible task if you ask me. And that is not even half the pain in loading, transporting carrying all the crap you need to make it happen. And to top it off I think there is way less money in it to boot to be made. To make even a wedding or corporate interview really top notch is a Herculean task as you well know. I am starting a new project to photograph, do short videos, mostly photos, in my Hometown for historic preservation. I figure it will take months to do off an on, but I am looking forward to carrying a small camera 2, lenses and maybe built in flash and be happy. I am probably going to go with some 1080p small handheld camcorder with stabilization and small tripod and that's it. If the light is no good the hell with it, I will come back when the sun is shinning LoL.

Wow very good points. It does cure a lot of mistakes if you have the storage space and the Computer HP! I shot Weddings with a Hassy years ago. Stressful stuff, I don't care if you did hundreds of them, and I did. Not counting hardly ever a weekend off.
-
For day to day work flow you are completely right. Raw is kind of big boy stuff. But if you have the time well it is beautiful. Closest mere mortals are going to get to shooting Film in this day and age, that's for sure.

I guess this thread proves that there is not a lot of options in the 3k price range new or used, for any fast turn arounds, Client on lot, looking at footage, trying to make a living doing it! Whew. I have never owned a 5d mkIII, but from what I have seen it is too Frankenstienish for me to bet the farm, BMPCC, love them, making a living with one wow. Sony F3, Canon C100, maybe add a little bit money for the mkII version, BMCC hmm in the running, dark horse here, the BM 4k Mini Ursa. Why not. 2995 bucks new. I think I would consider it and a C100 mkII. Sony F3 getting long in the tooth. Same with Canon first edition C100. BM stuff Raw is still unbeatable if you know what you are doing shooting it, editing it for what little it cost. I see very little love for a GH4, Sony A7s, A7rII on this thread, and I agree. Just not a system to rely on to make a buck day in day out. They are all too damn videoish for my liking. Too much work to make it happen. Form factor sucks also. YMMV. But would be hard not to have a Sony A7s in the bag if you had lots of cash when things got Yikes lack of light wise.

I must admit it looks too good to be true. Would be a hell of a leap for sure if true.
