  1. Well I i agree with you but I think the reason they depreciate some much so quickly is 2 reasons, 1. Sony makes a better one 6 months later, and 2. Sony sold a Hell of a lot of the ones before the new one. Catch 22 lol. Back in the day rental houses had to order new shelving just to hold all the FS5s and FS7s everyone wanted to rent.
  2. Jesus I think the quality of the footage looks like something my original Sony A7s would and can shoot. I will give it credit that it is an unusual vantage point that was taken that I would have never maybe thought to do unless I lived on that street and was wheelchair bound. And that equates to an interesting video no doubt crazy to say. But I would surely hope this doesn't win some worldwide film festival and become some sort of "C" change in shooting styles using a great camera and somewhat making it look like an eight year old product. Now again I sort of like it, but hell greatness, ehh....
  3. Hard to tell. Effects are getting much better and people are getting more talented using them. So hard to know..
  4. I think one of the best buys now used is the Sony FS5. I have seen them for 1200 dollars. Crazy. The variable ND alone is worth that. They are a really small cine camera. Maybe not the Best CS but hey..
  5. Well they are called mostly Iguanas lizards. I think they are along the same family. No they are not native to Florida, they were long ago pets that got Way to big and mean lol. Just like the Phyton problem, now that is a total mess down there. There is a Lot of dumbass people that move to Florida. I guess I sort of fit that description at times. It seems if you can't make it in your home state well why not move to Florida mindset. I moved down there when my first wife died of cancer when we were 54 years old. I was stationed for a while in Key West, Florida in the Navy and sort of fell in love with the place. And my Mother was a winter "Snowbird" down there at the time so why not move. Didn't love the job I had in Ohio much either at the time. Lived down there for 12 years. Can't afford to do it now. Too hot at my age anyway now. Used to be fairly cheap to live there years ago. Not now half of New York and New Jersey live down there now. Just like Utah, Idaho is now getting overrun with people moving from California. Well if you want to sort of live the Crocodile Dundee lifestyle, sounds pretty awesome, well you have to pay the price of slow internet. 😄
  6. Yeah you have to have no older than a couple of years old stuff and even then that is no real Cine cameras do AF well which we aren't buying one of them anyways. To be honest as good as Mirrorless is getting I don't think I would even want a pure Cine camera anymore if they gave me one. A Sony FS5 mk II would not be too bad but I like the ability to be able to shoot some photos with one also. Maybe on a given day nothing but photos.
  7. That seems kind of crazy. Well it IS crazy. Were you using the camera overlays on the monitor or a clean out?
  8. The one I would love to have when they come out is a second gen M1 Pro or X 27" iMac with the new screen they have out on the new laptops. But will probably be out of my price range.
  9. Well I was using a thing called Parallels for Mac that I was using Windows 11 with on them it cost like 98 dollars a year for it but it worked pretty well, even played Everquest Live with it and it was not any different it seemed from my PC, I could get to it with a 2 finger swipe on my Magic Mouse. Slick program. Optimized for the new M1 stuff also. You will fall in love with one for editing. They are a total game changer. They are crazy fast for web browsing also. I am sure not far into the future both Intel and AMD will both have ARM systems out soon.
  10. Thanks for the explanation Chris. Yeah I am sure I am out of the times keeping up with the newer high end stuff. So glad it's working out for you. I would think you could control some of the AF problems or at least monitor it using the Sony app on your smartphone? Even my little RX0 II has WIFI and Bluetooth. Yeah if it works @ 500mm than you must have a winner on your hand. I have a 80-400mm Tokina that I sure as hell wish it worked that good lol. I either have to have my Zucuto EVF or my 7" Monitor to check focus with it and even then pretty slow to go birding with. But it's old just like me so both beyond help I guess.
  11. Ahh I was not aware of that, good tip. Doing video is just so addictive. Every shot you have a chance of getting top notch output. A worthy goal for sure. But it can be the most frustrating stuff also in the very next shot. Ehh what a hobby, a profession. Trouble is now as soon as you get good with the camera you upgrade to a better one and start all over.
  12. All this autofocus talk makes me laugh. Other than maybe the latest Canon DPAF 4th gen I would not trust AF if it is an important shoot for nothing. There is no such thing as set it walk away and it will be great. If it can go to shit it will. Even if it drifts out of focus once it is ruined in my mind, just like crappy audio is a total turnoff. If you get the right lens with the right sensor you can cover just about anything in MF. You find the right backdrop to use to mask unwanted distractions. Yeah one man band stuff is hard and most of it looks it. Why do people think you can just take a modern camera and shoot a full length feature film solo on it. The laws of physics have not changed that I know of, They have tape hooks on cine cameras for a reason. DOF charts abound on the web. Some of this stuff just sounds like laziness to me. I have said it 200 times on here. Video is hard as hell to do. Every damn aspect of it is hard. From storyboard to final cut. They have 20 people helping out for a reason. And your going to trust AF on something you probably can never repeat. What if he picks his nose, blows his nose, has a hell of a big nose and turns his head. You can't even use eye focus on a woman with long bangs and other types of long hairdos. Your asking for the impossible with AF. And you are even talking a Panny SIH, a hell of a camera with less than Steller AF. Yikes.
  13. If you are talented, you can make Anything work. Hell he is not doing Netflix stuff. The DoF on a 24mm f4 lens on a 1" sensor is a mile wide. Just what he needs. The real question he was looking for was a cheap 10bit 4k camera. I told him, a RX0 Mk II. Your suggestion seems even more silly, Cinetone, yeah right. And then on a used $1500 camera that doesn't even do 10 bit. That ought to work out well.
  14. Surprisingly 8gb is all you really need in one. The 16gb models are really not much more powerful. Yeah I am not surprised an Apple cost a lot more anywhere other than in the UNITED STATES. Sounds like you are out of luck on the idea.
  15. It is just the base one, 8gig memory 256gb SSD. The base M1 Mini has 8 and 8 cores for both. So it is faster and more powerful than my M1 13" Pro that was twice the price. I am not a super fan of the Apple operating system myself. Stupid thing asks for you damn login, password for just about anything you want. They act like everyone is 6 years old using one. It is faster than a i9 Intel for editing I will tell you that. No PC can come even close to the latest ones that just came out. I had a i5 9600 with a GTX 970, 4gb 32gb ram and it was dog crap compared to the little Mini. And the PC was overclocked to hell and gone in both the CPU and the GPU, liquid cooled so that helped it live. I could not buy a new CPU or a GPU for what I paid for the Mini. Then when you move way up you are talking a new motherboard, new memory, bigger power supply on and on. I mostly just use the Apples for photo, video editing. I still like the PC world everyday usage wise. I have an older Sager laptop I use now for normal stuff and my games. But even it sucks for editing other than when I used it for my C100 footage but at MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 24Mbps anything will run it. Photo and video editing is not a poor mans hobby I can tell you that.
  16. Yeah Goanna's are meaner than a junk yard dog. They are taking over in Florida. They have bounties on some of the ritzy islands on them. Not too bad to eat them though, taste like chicken lol. Might just be cheaper and easier to just buy a Drone lol. Something must have gone wrong with your internet connection. I can upload a file that big in about 5 minutes to YouTube.
  17. Hell you can buy a used M1 Mini for $450.00. It sits behind my monitor they are that small. You can't buy a decent graphics card for that much money. Then you end up with a power sucking, noisy, hot, slow, big ass computer. It's your money, good luck with it. If you want to do video editing a PC sure as hell is Not the way to go in this day and age unless you are doing 1080p with a Canon C100 Codec.
  18. I know I am going to piss everyone one off that has commented but to the OP forget all they say and just go out and buy a M1 Mac of some kind and All your troubles will be over with. That is what I did, Long time PC guy, hand built nearly all of them, and said piss on it, bought a base used M1 Mac Mini , a used M1 13" Macbook Pro and hey guess what problem solved. Run Davinci Resolve Studio like it is a hot knife though butter. Piss on any more PC crap. It is all sitting in my closet gathering dust Never to be seen again. Apple Silicon is UBER as hell. I still have a gaming laptop for my online games but that is it. I Even bought a new Ben Q 4k 32" monitor to boot. Shiting in High Cotton as they say and for WAY less money than any PC is going to do.
  19. I think trying to be a good filmmaker and a good writer both at the same time is a pipe dream. Few can ever achieve that goal. Video is hard as hell. Coming up with creative things to film that is almost a God Given Gift. Something not really learned just something you were given at birth. You can learn to operate a camera, do lighting, even editing, hell that is hard also but writing, heh not so much. I think a person needs to team up with someone. Heck it could be your wife, one of your kids has a knack for one or the other. I have found women are a lot more creative than men on the writing end of it. I have a daughter that writes books left and right. She has 10 to 20 short ones backlogged to be edited all the time. She can create them faster than she can bring them to print. Hell I can't write a two page story board! So pick a camera you can live with and afford, learn the damn thing inside and out, shoot till you eyeballs fall out with it and then, and Only then you can do justice to a decent script of your doing or someone else's.
  20. Overall nicely done but I could have lived without the pulsing lights.
  21. Gee I don't know what to say. Well certainly thanks is in order. Yeah i missed you guys also. I went though some scary ass medical problems, actually died for a bit, but I guess too mean to die too long so hey here I am. Sepsis shock just about did me in. It knocks you down in just about every organ you have so at my age, nearly 75 now, hard to crawl back, well I never will make it back to what I was, and I have just aged the more since, happens you know. But actually right now I am really not doing too bad. My mother died a few months ago, my one daughter just had double mastectomy with breast cancer, well not much fun not counting this God Damn Pandemic. Just what the hell I needed lol. So I have been sort of out of it for a bit, literally, bummed out for a bit and working my way back. I am reorganizing my camera, video gear for less heft, and a little more creativity. Nobody knows how long you will live but I know I am running out of time so I just want to have a bit of fun while I can. So I came back here to be re educated and reunite with some of my old friends, which I have had very few of in my life. I hope I can contribute a little past knowledge, screw ups and all, plenty of those, and have a few good forward thinking threads evolve. And maybe a few fireworks to add to the fire. Hey I am still Don you know. But yeah I have mellowed a bit trust me. I went out though the tunnel and saw what few have seen and felt, and for the limited time was super peaceful and intriguing. I think I was going up and not down like a lot of people thought would happen. 😬
  22. Well I can't say you are going to use it solo to be a Wedding photographer etc. but the color science is suppose to be based off of the Sony A7r III and the sensor is either the same as the RX100 mk V or mk VI. I can tell you from experience it is damn close to having a A7 mk III in your pocket. The fixed lens, fixed aperture is stupid sharp, Weakest point is any really good stabilization. It has electronic but meh. But this thing has all the same crazy menu things as the big boy Sony's have. So it is not some toy trust me. I can think of a worse fixed lens to have that is for sure. I remember having a 28mm f2.8 welded to my Leica M3 for years and years and years. and probably left it at f4.0, f5.6 most of it's life. So hardly a burden. Not counting it is stupid small, it makes a GoPro look like a BMPCC 4K.
  23. I am also running a Fujinon B4 15x lens with a 2x on it on the BMPCC. The servo actually works on the lens which is a big plus. So it is my poor man ENG rig. Brings back old trimes. Pretty Dope how much reach it can have and how crazy good the optics are on those lenses, not counting being Parafocal. Even at long a distance it can be pretty good using a good fluid head and good tripod which I have. I am using it mostly for birding.
  24. II have a pretty nice setup for the BMPCC, I have a Tilta cage and am running a Zucuto Pro EVF on it and a Rode Pro VideoMic and I use the 12-32mm Panny lens a lot on it. Makes for a pretty small package. The Canon M I use a lot of crazy, had forever, MF lenses of all kinds of brands. Sort of like Mercer, but he has more high end stuff, he is rich, I am not lol.
