Sure but you can put film grain on anything in this day and age. So, if the person did that than it looks more like film. Well, it might, you are sort of right. But film has some magic pixie dust that to be honest I can't put my finger on, and I think most people can't either. On paper it ought to sort of suck, but it doesn't. I am not sure the OGBMPCC has grain to it, or it is just sort of shity and it worked out to be great. Probably both reasons, more to the latter. All I know is in this day and age the footage from one is a wee bit dated and sort of out of fashion, I think. The PK4 is pretty much in in this era. So that video is better than you think.

All you say is true but the video above your post was shot on an 275 dollar new phone in 10 bit Raw with a free app, and to my eye is not a hell of a lot off from the look of an OG BMPCC. That is pretty damn impressive. Sure, it is not an Arri but if you are a new videographer wow what an opportunity to show your stuff to the world no matter your income level. That alone makes it pretty freaking amazing to me. When I got into this stuff ANYTHING video related was a F ing fortune even used to buy. And even then, it was just 360p, 480p. Terrible looking stuff, but it was the best there was even broadcast wise. You had to squint to even look at it lol. Didn't matter if you were in focus or not nobody could tell.

This one is Really good. Shot on a HP Poco X3.

Funny video showing 3 different approaches to phone footage. Motion Cam looks pretty good on it I think. No clue what phone he was using though.

I have been preaching that to the choir here and very few listen lol. Smartphones already are better other than maybe zoom lenses than nearly all consumer cameras now. Sure, top end cameras with top end glass are better but at what price? And with the Motion Cam app you have Raw to boot on the Android phones. Amazing stuff for an amazing price these days right in your pocket.

Tips for dealing with rotation when using OIS (OIS major flaw?)

Maybe a Steadicam is the answer. -
Making a camera that shoots even 6K, let alone 8K without a fan is just about crazy for any manufacture to do. I have no clue what they were thinking. Sure, the Nikon Z9 is somewhat doing it but it is a huge camera. The Sony A1 is not great at it either long term. My Sony Xperia Pro-1 gets so hot you can't even hold it after awhile in 4K 120p, not counting the battery goes south in a heartbeat.

You don't really think the microphone on the AX700 is going to be great do you? You will have to add one to it also if you want decent audio. It is one of the cheapest camcorders Sony makes. Nothing will be a standout on it for that money. You have to spend 5, 6 thousand dollars on a camcorder to get a really good one. And at even that price that is their lower tier stuff. Good video stuff is expensive as hell.

Well, I will admit that I use an iPhone 6s Plus as my daily driver, so sensor size for normal stuff is pretty irrelevant I guess. I just like the output it has better than most of the newer stuff I have had, and well it is damn cheap to boot to buy.

It might be made of aluminum. I would think that would dissipate heat even better than magnesium??
-
That Panasonic camcorder has a 1/2.5" sensor. Do you realize how damn small that is?? That is iPhone 6s size stuff. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_sensor_format#/media/File:Sensor_sizes_overlaid_inside.svg

Well I have had a dozen or more of them in my life. Lots of older ENG cameras. And none of them ended up as good as they seem like they would. Sure years ago they weren't bad because cameras were sort of bad. But damn your XT3 and a zoom lens that would Kill any camcorder out there. Sony FF camera cameras have that Clear Zoom thingy that makes a normal lens a killer zoom with no loss in quality. So the reach on a camcorder is not as big as a deal with using a Sony. Yeah there have been threads on here about camcorders but I have seen no rush with people on here actually buying one. I have given it some thought too, but from past experience they are not nearly as good as a "real" camera. Iti s damn hard to beat a big sensor. Now if you said a Canon C100 with DPAF well sure that is pretty great. I consider them almost a camcorder. EF-S lenses are cheap as heck to use on one. I am using an ENG lens on my GH2, GH5, talk about reach. That might be an option.

See you don't know what you want. There are too many good cameras out now use to buy a camcorder in the same price range. There is a reason nobody makes cheap ones anymore. Hell a good Smartphone is better than most older camcorders now.
-
A new lens or used?
-
You get what you pay for. Well, I guess a lot depends on what you want to do with it. If you want cheap buy a Panasonic GH2 and 24mm FD lens. Pretty much all you need.
-
This footage to me looks great. It is a camcorder, you crazy?? Sounds like you want a toy one you can stick in your pocket. Buy a GH6 with a 14-140mm lens and be done with it.😉
-
About as good as it gets I think. Great focus, great colors, and able to be hand held.

This footage to me looks great. Link to newer footage with one. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=JVC-GY-LS300&sp=EgIIBQ%3D%3D

Heck for the price I would rather have a JVC-GY-LS300. A few people on here have one. Might ask them about it in this day and age. https://www.mpb.com/en-us/product/jvc-gy-ls300-4k-camcorder/sku-1403390?utm_source=google&utm_medium=surfaces&utm_campaign=shopping feed&utm_content=free google shopping clicks

Aces then Leeming Pro were my two favorites. Others I can pass on, none looked good in the low light part to my eye.

I know you can adapt a lot of stuff but if you want to have the best luck with the system you need to buy native lenses for it. So, you have to basically start from scratch. Sure, you have to do that with every system but damn when does it ever stop. I am not made of gold like you are lol. 😁
-
Yeah but they have a goofy lens mount. You pretty much have to buy new lenses for them. So the initial cost is pretty steep.
