  1. Most people on here act like everyone in the world is like us. I bet "we" don't represent 0.5% of the people buying all this stuff from Canon, Sony, on and on. And I would bet in the last 5 years 50% of the Rest of the people have switched to Smartphones. And more and more will do so since these newer ones have multiple cameras in them. That was half the reason people didn't want to ditch the cheap DSLR was some kind of Tele lens. Now that stuff is here in Phones. I have no clue how any of these company's down the road are going to sell their wares as they say. That is not counting the pressure say the Osmo Pocket, Osmo Action, GoPro has put on "real" cameras as of late. They are doomed I think. Then there is the PK4 for peanuts. Talk about pressure. If you pay 5995 for a new Canon 1DX mk III you are getting Really Screwed. I doubt it cost 6 times as much money to make a 1DX. They have used the same basic body for like 10 years. 30 Years if you go back to the EOS-1N RS film era.
  2. I don't think any of these companies are going to get into Smartphones. The cheaper ones in China are just going to rule the world down the line. They have all the knowledge and tech they need. Japan can not compete with South Korea and China, China can undercut anyone if they want to, or have to. Just competing with Apple and Samsung alone is an impossible task. I think their old lens library is a thing of the past. Most are not set up for modern Video Mirrorless. They are basically starting from scratch. So they have like what 5 modern lenses in the RF mount. And half of them Nobody can afford. It will take years just like it took Sony. Nikon has the same problem,. A lot of their lenses is even more outdated. I think Canon and Nikon both waited Way to long to get into the FF Mirrorless game. I am sure both Canon and Nikon have better high end ones in the works. But will anyone shell out the 3000 Dollars + to buy them? I think even Sony is going to have a hard time selling the Sony A7r mk IV to be honest at 3500. It is a good camera, but is it 1000, 1500 Dollars better than others out now. Yeah, but how much of it are people Really going to notice if they buy it. There is nothing super mind blowing in it, especially for video. Eye focus yeah, but. The s35 mode is nice but why buy a 3500 Dollar camera to shoot APSC a lot of the time. For 3500 Dollars now, or a bit more you can buy some pretty damn good dedicated used Cine cameras now.
  3. They would have to sell it for 3500 Dollars max, and for that money they would probably loose money on each camera or just break even. They need money badly. So I don't think they will do it. It makes too much sense. Canon wants to milk the crap out of everything. They, like Nikon, better bring out the best FF Mirrorless camera ever known to mankind next or they are done. And get off the daydream of charging twice the price for their Cine cameras than they are really worth. They have pretty much lost that market as of late. They have done some dumb ass crap as of late. Some clueless people at the top. It's sad really. Nobody wants to see any of these company's go belly up. I grew up with them. But the way the world is changing so fast there is going to be a lot of big name company's around the world go belly up.
  4. Yeah the camera company's over there have a pool they can draw from to help each other out. Not a bad deal for the weaker ones to have to help them. Trouble is the endoscopes business is on it's last legs also. There are now more and more less invasive tests for Colon Cancer on the horizon that do not involve an endoscope at all. The average person hates the thought of that test.
  5. Your crazy as hell. Sony OWNS the Broadcast industry. This A7 stuff is just peanuts to them. Bragging rights. And guess what, they have damn near buried Canon and Nikon. They probably make more money off of just the Sensor business than Canon makes on everything as of late.
  6. That is because the Japaneses government props them up just like China does for company's. Olympus would have been out of business 10 years ago if they had to stand on their own two feet. Trouble is Japan it's self is not in that good of shape either. Nuclear Power plant blowing up, Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Global Economy, and through the roof Labor wages have just about done in Japan.
  7. You live in a dream world with Canon. Sony is worth more than twice as much as Canon, and has a P/E ratio of half what Canon is. Sony is making money, Canon is loosing. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&tbm=fin&q=NYSE:+SNE&stick=H4sIAAAAAAAAAONgecRoyi3w8sc9YSmdSWtOXmNU4-IKzsgvd80rySypFJLgYoOy-KR4uLj0c_UNknOSkgxyeRaxcvpFBrtaKQT7uQIADvG85EYAAAA&biw=1493&bih=877#scso=_XDI9XeeMF86P9PwPzK-v4Ak8:0 https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&tbm=fin&q=NYSE:+CAJ&stick=H4sIAAAAAAAAAONgecRoyi3w8sc9YSmdSWtOXmNU4-IKzsgvd80rySypFJLgYoOy-KR4uLj0c_UNDCsqDYzzeBaxcvpFBrtaKTg7egEALyZ2YEYAAAA&biw=1493&bih=877#scso=_9C89XZWpDYzWtQagrZqAAg8:0 Look at last year to this year. A lot of Red on Canons part. They had better wise up or their Goose is Cooked. Investors are not too fond of that outlook. Hardly a buy stock. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&tbm=fin&q=NYSE:+SNE&stick=H4sIAAAAAAAAAONgecRoyi3w8sc9YSmdSWtOXmNU4-IKzsgvd80rySypFJLgYoOy-KR4uLj0c_UNknOSkgxyeRaxcvpFBrtaKQT7uQIADvG85EYAAAA&biw=1493&bih=877#scso=_XDI9XeeMF86P9PwPzK-v4Ak8:0,_FTQ9XfeGDNuqtQb837rIBQ8:0&wptab=COMPANY https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&tbm=fin&q=NYSE:+CAJ&stick=H4sIAAAAAAAAAONgecRoyi3w8sc9YSmdSWtOXmNU4-IKzsgvd80rySypFJLgYoOy-KR4uLj0c_UNDCsqDYzzeBaxcvpFBrtaKTg7egEALyZ2YEYAAAA&biw=1493&bih=877#scso=_9C89XZWpDYzWtQagrZqAAg8:0,_ZjQ9XYPaEcXctQbc-qygBg8:0&wptab=COMPANY
  8. The only thing Canon may be doing is turning out the lights at the camera factory's if they don't wise up and do it fast.
  9. If Canon would Just have FF 4K in the EOS-R, and DPAF in the M50 in 4K they would take back tons of shooters. Heck I would buy a M50 tomorrow if they did. I am in the market sad to say. It isn't rocket science. Well maybe to Canon it is. ☹️
  10. Yeah the color ink cartridges now cost more than the damn printer at times. Cheaper to throw the printer away and buy a new one on sale. Crazy world.
  11. Yeah the RX 100 VII is stupid money in this day and age for what it is. It is a good camera don't get me wrong. For 799 maybe, 1200, insane money for it now.
  12. Heck not only P&S cameras but entry level DSLR, and entry level Mirrorless cameras to boot. Even the 1" sensor sized ones.

    Lenses

I think this video fits in with lenses. How others used DoF or the lack of it.. https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/07/27/citizen-kane-apocalypse-now-deconstructing-cinematography/
  14. Sony said they would be number one in 2020 and hell they may be right. Gulp. Even their Printer Division has had to have taken a big hit, especially high end Photo printers. I literally threw away in the garbage my Canon Pro-100 printer. It was a Piece of shit. You couldn't give one away on eBay, cost more to ship the 42 pound turd than you could get for one. A 500 Dollar boat anchor. NEVER again a Canon printer. Who even prints in this day and age anymore. Very few I bet. The average person goes to Wal Mart, UPS to do that.
  15. I don't think they have the advanced Tech to pull it off.
  16. Get real, Canon Doomed themselves. You can't be 4 years behind in Tech or more and survive in this balls to the wall market. Who gives a damn about loyalty for a brand. People want up to date freaking results from Anyone that will give it for less money than the next guy. This is 2019, not 10 years ago.
  17. Nikon Has to stand out or they are dead. They have no choice. They put themselves in a box years ago. A lot of goof ups. It's their first effort. But the next camera they come out with better be unbelievable or wow they may be done. Somebody is going to bite the dust in this crowed FF market.
  18. Well like it or not Sony has pretty much everyone, even Canon, by the short hairs because the vast majority of them use a Sony Sensor. Sony is Always going to know what the other company's are up to ahead of any release. And they are going to in the long run hold on to the best sensors for themselves. But yeah it has been unlike Sony in the past to be dragging their feet as time goes on. I guess there is a Lot of pressure to not cut into the Cine, Broadcast market. And you know and I know Sony, even Canon, Panasonic could make a 3000 Dollar Cine camera that would knock your socks off. But they are trying to figure out how to go forward and not commit suicide. But these cameras are going to Have to get bigger or heat will limit what you can do. The Panny S1 proves that. And the S1H REALLY proves that, same with the PK4.
  19. Somehow the body moves and the new composite focus box they used just wasn't aligned properly, or cast properly. They even let you send them in and they may come back even worse lol. It was a mess. Whats funny a ton of people jumped ship from Canon because the 1D mk III was so F ing bad, and then the D800 came out and they were jumping ship Back to Canon. It was funny. You can't blame them though. You Have to have a camera that can focus right, especially if you are a Pro making a living doing it with a lot of money to spend. You are going with a camera that Works, at least for a week or two you hope lol.
  20. Yeah but a Lot of the D800's had focus problems. Upper left side on most. I am always afraid to buy a really cheap one., It has a good chance it is a dog focus wise. Plastic focus box was the problem on them. The 800E's didn't seem to be as bad focus wise. The D810 cured it. Nikon has had a Lot of screw ups as of late. D750 is a time bomb to buy also. But Canon had the 1D mk III focus screw up big time. So no virgins in the bunch.
  21. Ah, you finally are thinking about doing the Right thing lol. ?
  22. True, very true. None of them are fabulous at the edges. Looking on You Tube for footage from the SL it seems very capable of getting the job done. I sort of liked this one a lot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2BFA8wwLXg
  23. You are hard to please lol. I mean the Sony A7r MK II was the best thing since sliced bread for a Long time when it came out. I am out of ideas on FF sad to say. Still thinking. ? The extra cost of an adapter Has to be tons cheaper than buying a Native Leica body lol. Well here is a cheap Leica SL. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Leica-SL-Typ-601-Camera-READ-DESCRIPTION/223567905332?hash=item340daf8234:g:km4AAOSwW2hdEXNE:sc:FedExHomeDelivery!45056!US!-1
  24. That I can't tell you, but I am sure you can. Look like you can. Hell that is a M mount Canon camera. Never mind on that one!! https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1150820-REG/fotodiox_lm_eos_m_p_pro_lens_mount_adapter.html Can even go the EOS R mount route. If you have the money might be the way to go. The EOS-R is not too bad priced right now. Hey it's a Canon, can't go wrong there in the long run. At my age, maybe not. ? https://www.adorama.com/nveosrlem.html
  25. Wow I can Only suggest a Leica and they are not so hot on the video side. Hmm. Now maybe if this Raw thing EVER comes out for the Nikon Z cameras that Might work but. How about a Canon 5D with ML 1080p wise? The higher stuff is pretty flacky. The new Canon EOS-R has a pretty output, but I would not call it Filmic. @Mattias Burling ought to know, he has one.
