Feature film shot in only a week & with a smartphone
webrunner5 replied to IronFilm's topic in Cameras
f1.8 is a Slow lens for a wide angle? The tele is 2.4, still not too shabby. You should have a lens so fast lol. -
I get the impression that it is a lightweight solution. 1080p it looks like tops. I know nothing about it but what I read in like 2 minutes or less lol. Another few to use. https://www.epiphan.com/blog/cloud-video-editing-platforms/

Hard to believe those kind of speeds. Their "normal" Thunderbolt 3 drives are well, sort of normal. Interesting how they can pick up the pace from those to this as they say. https://hddmag.com/glyph-atom-ssd-review/

Find the best video quality for under $200 - fun challenge

Great video. Well I can see this not going to be an easy challenge! -
Here is a comparison I found. Looks like the Zeiss is the winner by a pretty big margin. The Zeiss is a Contax one. Amazing lenses. Volt. Leica FF mount I think.

The main difference from the T3 is speed and a better case.. "The big differentiating factor with the T5 revolves around the addition of USB 3.1 Gen 2 support. The previous T3 SSDs supported USB 3.1 Gen 1, which is basically just glorified USB 3.0. With USB 3.1 Gen 2 in tow, Samsung is able to achieve higher speeds — up to 540MB/s compared to the T3’s 450MB/s max. Multiple Blackmagic Disk Speed Tests resulted in read speeds that often came close to the maximum theoretical speed.". Really well done. I am sure the Bride and Groom were thrilled with it. Congrats.

Yeah unless you are using FCPX I see no reason using Resolve to spend the money on an Apple. Plenty of old gamer computers around used for not much money.

I think a lot of people base their dislike about Smartphones if they have an older one., and by older I mean even a 2 year old one. My iPhone XS just kills my iPhone X I had and the X killed the iPhone 8 I had before it. They have been improving at a amazing rate. So unfortunately unless you keep up with the latest and great phone you are Way behind compared to say your friends 40D, because Canon has made nearly Zero gains on their lower end cameras. They used the same sensor for years and years. The Canon 80D my son had was a big let down output wise. Soft photos and soft videos. The DPAF was nice, but that was about it. A big, fat clunky body to boot. The EOS M I have has a better output than the 80D had, or no worse I think. Even the CS is better on the EOS M. Not a fan of the modern look they have now on their DSLRs. But sure if I was going on a vacation of a lifetime a Phone would not be my top choice. Probably a 1" mirrorless camera of some sort, or a m4/3, even the Canon M50. But in some places you probably are Only going to get away shooting with a phone.

About 4 years ago I bought a Horseman 4x5 Field Camera from Japan. I never paid much attention to the shipping on it when I bought it for like 400 Dollars. 2, yeah 2 days later it was handed to me in Ohio by FedEx. I bought it on ebay. I couldn't believe it. It was from a Dealer in Tokyo. It was packed amazingly well. I have Never had something come that fast from the far east. You never know. -
You are not going to walk around with a camera 24/7. Sure they can take a better shot if you are lucky to have it with you, and someone doesn't punch you in the face taking a picture of them with it, or they say you can't use it there, and you are skilled enough to use manual everything. Other than low light Smartphones now are almost fool proof. With Photoshop you can make anything look like anything now. Normal looking pictures taken with a "Real Camera" are old hat now. That has been done a million times. Spontaneous stuff is in because you can do that now. The average person doesn't care how perfect the horizon is, or if every thing is in focus now, they just want to see interesting stuff, not some staged shots people my age did 40 years ago. Sort of like video is is now, people want movement, to feel like they were there. They are not looking for perfection like years ago. That is why YouTube is so successful. It is fast paced, new maybe everyday, every week. It is exciting, on the move, not static as heck like normal cameras are. And very few people on there are actually very great at making videos, but guess what they have tons of followers because they are interesting, not perfectionist. Not using a Arri, they are using a GoPro, or a cheap Canon camera..

Yeah Panasonic has come a Long ways since the GH4 as of late. They have put their Varicam CS to good use on their other products.

GH2 with a hack would have my vote. Any EOS camera with ML ought to do also for that price.. -
I have not taken a photo with a "real" camera in years. Well I did going down to Florida. But I don't think they were worth the extra effort other than the reach ability of the Zoom lenses I had. I find for what I need to do the later Smartphones, other than really dark conditions, fit the bill for me fine. Most people want to see Contrasty, Saturated photos, and most phones deliver that part in spades.
-
I think that they have become a lot more better than just for casual stuff. I am not saying they are going to replace a Nikon D850, but used right they can produce some pretty amazing stuff. They can even shoot Raw, and the mobile Lightroom, Photoshop apps are really pretty powerful.
-
Yeah but even Panasonic shit around with only 8bit in the Panasonic AG-DVX200. Unless someone else blinks and adds 10bit to their "Lower"' end cameras I think we are stuck with the same old stuff with a new face on it.

Well my EOS M I just bought falls into this at the 140 Dollars I paid. But is ML an unfair advantage? I would sort of think so, but normal M output is not too bad. -

I don't think the camera is the determining factor about skill level. It is the initial thought of what are you going to shoot, and the ability to grade and edit I think is most important. A Smartphone, or a Osmo Pocket sort of proves that point. We are to the point now that even auto everything is really not too bad of a way to go on average. So camera skill is becoming less and less of an advantage. I think even that Gerald Undone video would have turned out better using Auto everything to be honest. This AI stuff is scary good when conditions are not off the chart. -
Hmm pretty much the same look output wise I think, with a Lot less convenience. Interesting decision.

Yeah I am afraid m4/3 is a sinking ship.

Z-CAM quietly announce 8k and 6k FULL FRAME cameras - no joke!
webrunner5 replied to Oliver Daniel's topic in Cameras
Yeah but a normal kind of mode is 2.39:1. 2.4:1 is really not that far off. You are not loosing much. Now matching it would be a problem. I am sure there is a way to match it even in the normal NLE's. -
He is using a camera that has 13 stops of DR. I really don't think he put them to very good use. He can call it what he wants. He needs to buy a light meter I guess, and a graduated ND filter. He sure as hell ought to know better. If that is what you want your followers to think is the best that camera can do, the best He can do, well they need to follow someone else. If I was BMD I would be pissed. That is a pretty amateur, piss poor, looking video. He is from Canada. I guess it is the first time he ever seen the sun.
