Well I will be the first to admit 12,500 is about as high as I have needed to shoot. And it was for fun more than anything. But to say that kind of ability is not useful to someone is crazy. Hell Canon and Nikon, Sony all have cameras that are Suppose to go up to a Million or more. It is there for some reason or they would not even bother. Bragging rights is part of it. Night surveillance comes to mind. Shooting night skies. Philip Blooms review of the a7s showed some good use of it's ability at night on Brighton Beach, his favorite hangout. If I can get half decent shots at 25,600 well 12,400 out to be a cakewalk. That is the main reason they push the limits. Just because a certain person never uses it doen't mean someone else never does either.

boom op. Glorified stick holder. I will give you the benefit of the doubt. You are a pretty good boom holder. Pats on his head. I warned you, your days are numbered. In a few years won't need a focus puller, won't need a second AC, won't need a, well you get the idea.

You can't really mean that. God you Have drank the Kool Aide lol. How the F old did you say you are? Was it 84 or 85?

A down vote WTF. I agree, after 3 years I doubt they are going to be best buddies anytime some. DPR's loss the way I see it. They do need help on the video side. You don't learn this stuff in a few years. Years of on the job training is a must I think. There is so damn many aspects to it is the problem. And Photo experience, other than maybe exposure, even that is weak, amounts to hardly nothing.

Yeah a Sony a7s is just getting started at 25,600 ISO. Mine was just jaw dropping impressive at that kind of ISO. Sony can do some magic stuff with Sensors. Now menus ehh.

Nikon Z6 features 4K N-LOG, 10bit HDMI output and 120fps 1080p

Hmm sort of has an early Sony look to it without the noise. Defiantly an improvement, but not a Jeez I want to run out and buy one look. Not the creamy D750 look, at least to me. ? -
Well if it is able to be record to a SD card I would think my Box Computer on my desktop ought to make it happen. The big problem, well a HUGE problem, would be a 8K monitor to view it! ?

Even that video has more of a dark look to it that i just don't like. It is not like this thing just came out this week. It would be at the bottom of my list. At least the Canon EOS-R has it's warts, but it does have nice CS. There is no reason in this day and age to Have to be as good as Zak to get a decent image from a modern camera lol. -
Is the EOS-M *THE* Digital Super-8 Camera?
webrunner5 replied to Matt James Smith ?'s topic in Cameras
4.5K Raw. I really like the look of this one. -
I think the footage from it is amazing, and it is even more amazing it is a Sharp Sensor, and sort of their first try 8K wise. Even the Color Science of it looks great to me. GAS attack, I want one, WoW.

Yeah the 5D mk II is pretty good for low light stuff. But in reality it "only" goes to 25,600, so I would not call it a low light king like the 5D mk III was. I think the PK4 goes to 25,600 also, which for a BMD camera, that is groundbreaking Amazing lol.

Yeah the iPhone XS and the XS Max are a Huge jump in quality over the past stuff i have had. In a couple more models they may be scary good.

Yeah I think there is a camera or two that does have a real optical zoom in it. They have the potential to use Folded Optics to make it happen. The new phones now have at least 3 lenses in them now one of them has 6 lenses now. And rumor has the iPhone 11 will 3 also. So that would cover, other than Really long stuff, most of what people really need. They are getting better quicker than real cameras are that is for sure. On my way to Florida I had my iPhone and my Nikon D2Xs with a 18-105mm on it on the front seat and I went for for iPhone 90% of the time because I could just do the Drive By Shooting thing one handed with it a Lot more easier than the Nikon. Now when I got out of my truck and went to say the beach I took the Nikon. But I would have only taken say 100 pictures on the way down compared to probably 400 or more I did with the Phone. Sure it is spray and pray but still it was a whole lot better than No shots. My target audience, my Mom, and family, and Facebook, is not going to scrutinize every shot I post. They are excited to see my adventure, and to be envious of me in Florida while they were freezing their ass off on Ohio lol. I have the iPhone XS and it can do better than most people think. Here is a link to Flicker, and there is some pretty damn good stuff on there. That Smart DR they have in them is pretty amazing I think. It is Way better than my iPhone X I had before it. https://www.flickr.com/search/?text=iPhone XS It is like this shot on there. You could not have done that with a phone 2 or 3 years ago. That has some pretty good DR in it. Or who would have thought you could just go out and do this with a phone. The average person is going to be impressed, and that is what counts. That is who goes to movies, not just perfectionists.

To me the PK4 wins by a pretty good amount. Even the colors are better. Amazing camera the PK4 if you are going for the modern look. At the time I thought the Canon Color Science was the Cats Ass. Now it looks pretty dated. Even Canon realized it as their newer bodies are way better CS wise. I think the C series Cine cameras still have that great look for older cameras like the C300, 100, 1DC. Even the 5D mk III was a better change CS wise. But I still sort of hold a original C100, C300 as a pretty amazing baseline to aim for. I didn't seem to like the C100 mk II CS as much. But it is probably more realistic, so in the long run better. Now things are a lot more saturated, good or bad. I think for the good, I have got used to it. Olympus, Fuji were were ahead of the times lol.

Doesn't look like many Sports Shooters are going to rush out and buy it. Not surprising being FF.
-
That is the beauty of Clear Zoom on the Sony cameras. You can have your 24-70 with that one lens, and do it in FF if you use a A7 series body..

I would think in this day and age walking around, especially at the Reception, with a cellphone might render better, more natural looking shots. Not many people like to have a C300 shoved in their face and act normal. That is the beauty of cellphones, most people ignore them. And Nothing is a gimmick if you produce. I don't give a shit if you use a Barbie Cam when I hire you if it comes out like I want it to or better. I have no clue how everyone thinks you have to have a Arri to impress people. Plus how many can even afford one. Your Website is what impresses people. 99.9% of the people in the world don't even know what a Arri even is. But they know if your website is good, no matter what the hell it was shot on. It takes skill to do this stuff, not gear out the butt. Gear in this day and age is becoming pretty irrelevant. Because the kid down the street with a iPhone 10 might just kick your ass on the skill side of it and put you out of business tomorrow. There is Way too much competition to be a half assed shooter now. If you aren't skilled as hell at this stuff, Really skilled, find something you are skilled at, and do it quick. The days of just having good gear and getting work are over. It's like this new Zoom 6 that is out. If you can't overdrive the output how many people are going to need a Sound Man that have one now. Sure the high end stuff will keep them, but middle to low budget stuff, wow not so sure. You can hire a Monkey to hold a stick over peoples heads. Say all that hair you have, hmm. ? Yep, you are right. I have Zero experience. Carry on. ☺️

You 2 people are funny as hell. Maybe you both own a Apple 4s. 2035, they can kick ass right now. For a Wedding we are taking 90% of it is Photos. You think you can't take a picture with a new Smartphone right now today? Pros have taken weddings with old 4mp early digital cameras, ENG cameras with 1mp sensors in them. Some people are just clueless what has transpired before in this and the photo industry in the last 40 years. You act like there has Always been a Arri Alexa and a 100mp Phase One MF camera. The people you people are trying to sell your services to have no god damn clue in hell what great quality is. If it is as good as their cellphone you are Golden. If you think you have to have a 8K video camera, or a MF 80mp photo camera to make a living as a wedding shooter you had better find a new career path. This place is starting to sound more like DPR everyday. Depressing as hell at times. I am just sitting here shaking my head.

Z-CAM quietly announce 8k and 6k FULL FRAME cameras - no joke!
webrunner5 replied to Oliver Daniel's topic in Cameras
Man that last shot of the girl is pretty jaw dropping good. That makes a Canon look bad. Super well done as usual. Made my day. That will be etched in my remaining 182 brain cells for awhile lol. ? -
Unfortunately a perfect storm is brewing in the Photo, Video business, probably a lot of other businesses also. Like it or not people are just making less and less money every year. The Middle class, at least in the USA Is shrinking to me at an alarming rate. So that means less and less money to pay Pros to shoot both markets. And to top it off an amazing downward cost of pretty amazing photo, video equipment the average person can buy now. And Auto everything on them actually Does work pretty well. I mean other than in low light, or fast movement, it is damn near impossible to take a bad Smartphone picture or video on them. For the average person they are Way good enough for them output wise. Now the new phones are coming with 3 lenses on them. And they soon will have zooms, real zooms. Look at YouTube. It is actually hard to find a video that anyone on there posts that looks even remotely terrible. I think on average most look pretty amazing. It has gotten damn easy to do this stuff. Sure maybe the story line is not the greatest, but a heck of a lot of people have some pretty good sites on there. I sure don't see a Photo or Video career the most stable way to make a living anymore down the road. A person is going to have to be Really, Really good to survive long term and make enough to be the bread winner in it.
-
I fail to see ONE shot that could not be done with a Smartphone in your footage. I think you are living in a dream world.
-
There is a Hell of a lot more Idiots on DPR than there is on here I can tell you that. There are people on there that want to argue just to argue. I only know one person on here that does that, ehh embarrassed lol..
-
The wedding part is about half way trough. It is not only that Robots Can do it, it is that more and more people are not going to pay ANYONE to shoot it. Keep your day job is the take away. Young people just don't have any money with Student Debt, Credit Card Debit. And a Smartphone on average with 50 people shooting them gets the job done well enough in this day and age for a lot of people that go down to Wal Mart and get them printed. Bingo.

webrunner5 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Yeah the output from them is 100 miles different looking than the D750 which is great. Even the D500 is better. I have no clue what they have done. That Ain't Nikon CS in my book.
