What tech advancements do you think will eventually come to prosumer video?
webrunner5 replied to tellure's topic in Cameras
I think with miniaturization the way it is going we will have butt hole cameras the size of Suppository's with mind control, and you will just pull down your pants and let it rip for say 5 second bursts. Sort of body mounted, literally, backup cams. ? -
Oh no, that is all part of the "Team Aspect". You can't throw your team under the bus. How barbarian. It is for the greater good you keep your pie hole shut. Pretty much a big reason the world is so F ed up now LoL. Must not be insensitive can we. Everyone gets a Participation Trophy now. How cute. Angelic music keyed up softly from above. Someone please engage 'goat-mode'. ?

Yeah that is what I am thinking of doing is buying a BMPCC. Just as small, and a little less finicky LoL. But on paper with even a better looking output. Just seems the way to go. Although the M50 seems tempting also with a speedbooster, but you can buy a PK4 for nearly that, or a C100. So not so hot an idea at that cost. But I like the idea of the smaller camera.

This doesn't answer your questions but it is a good breakdown of the positives and negatives of Braw.

I have no clue how it would be the same specs with different sensor sizes? So I guess you will have to wait, and probably for awhile.

BLACKMAGIC RAW (BRAW) format UMP "Compression ratios are 3:1, 5:1, 8:1, 12:1 and an option for a Variable Data Rate that retains constant quality."
-
Yeah but if you Have to lock off every shot you do that is pretty damn limiting. You might as well use it as a Photo camera, which by the way it sort of is. I was thinking of buying one, but with all the latest evidence this thing seems to have a damn under powered processor in it, no surprise. So that means to me it is Never going to be so hot when it is limping along even in a format lesser than1080p.

Ever Had Dust In TelePhoto Lens? Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II

Dust you can blow off with a Jet Blower or the like. That is a more involved problem than dust bunnies. -
Ever Had Dust In TelePhoto Lens? Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II
webrunner5 replied to Snowbro's topic in Cameras
Yeah does look like oil spots. I had the same crap on my A7s. I Had to send it in to get cleaned. I could Never get the sensor cleaned after god knows how many tries with different reasonably expensive products. I just about wore the coatings off my lenses before I figured it was the sensor. -
I think that is a wise decision by Sony. The average buyer of that lens is just the person down the street. It is not pushed as some Pro level lens. More of a "kit lens". And the average Joe Blow takes photos, video in more of a spontaneous fashion. Not really a planned thing. And I would imagine most shots would involve being at the wider end. So I would think you would want that lens to default to the wide end more than stay at the long end. And that is what most normal people probably do,. It is either wide open or zoomed all the way in on average. I think they made the right choice. Now I would Hope they have a way to disable it for more experienced people, but better safe than sorry on Sony's part. These company's know their target audience for the products and act accordingly.

So you really think a GH5 looks better than a BMPCC, or a C100, Sony F3? Hmm. A cheap Cine lens better than a Canon L lens. Trying to keep focus @ 0.95. Interesting. Yeah I'll live in the past.

We Ain't taking pictures of trees, we are taking movies of people. Using red in painting, yep you done drank the Kool Aide. The Red type I guess. PT Barnum was right. ?

Philip Bloom seems to do ok using tele lenses. He lives and dies with a 70-200mm, 100-400mm lens. Fast lenses wide open tend to be the worse lenses ever made. A camera like the PK4 with no optical corrections is a recipe for disaster using a 0.95 lens on it unless you are going for a 60's psychedelic look LoL. Even high dollar Cine lenses aren't really that fast. How many really fast lenses were ever made 30, 40, 50 years ago when movies were the I think the best? I am not knocking new technology, but all these fast lenses are I think unessential, especially with better low light ability. Sure maybe using a BMPCC with a s16 sensor, but s35, FF not so much. Hell even m4/3 buy a speedbooster and use a half affordable decently made lens on it. Cheaper than all these fast ass gimped lenses. I think you done drank the Kool Aide all those fast Chinese lens makers are pushing. They look more like fun house mirrors than quality glass. Now I must admit the clickless aperture and longer focus throws are nice but.. Just some food for thought. Plus you will look just like everyone else does with them dumb lenses. You Really want to take videos of your wife, kids with a wonky looking lens, really?? ?
-
Yeah but you don't Have to buy a fast lens to get shallow DOF. You can use a mid telephoto lens or a tele one that is f4 and do the same if you have the space to get back. Hell of a lot cheaper. I like the compression look a lot. It really forces you to look at the subject more so than the background. It is like tunnel vision. I mean you can't, and shouldn't use it all the time but there are Tons of cheap lenses like that out there to buy.

It has a 50's film look that is not digital looking. That is a good thing, no, a great thing. Refreshing from all the newer camera stuff that all looks alike. ?
-
So much for the Claimed 20 stops of DR on the Red Weapon Dragon! ?
-
All the Sony FF cameras have the crop mode which ends up a 1.5 crop, just like their APSC cameras are. That way you can use the E mount lenses on the FF stuff which are called FE lenses. And that works out to be pretty close to s35. And Real Cine cameras are All over the place in what they call s35 if you look at the graph below. So digital cameras wise anything goes for s35. The Canon C100, C300, C500 which by the way all use the same sensor, is one of the Few cameras that are really the old film dimensions in the modern era.

That is a 4000 dollar lens that has a Loud focus motor in it! My birthday is coming up. I will send you my address LoL.
-
Because that is what Sony is supposedly working on, and buyers might not have much choice. Why not if they can overcome the lower DR problem with them. Good chance one might be in the a7s mk III.
-
Yeah I am not too sure our eyes can even see much improvement in 8k or above. Any movement at all is going to stand out like a sore thumb. I mean it is coming no doubt, but it is probably going to be overkill for most people.
-
Yeah but the problem is as far as I know is Nobody makes a lens that fast with AF.
-
Well the 8K guy is back, alive and well. Interesting results.

My definition of a Cinematic, Filmic is if the footage looks like something Anyone can do, and sort of does, it Isn't Cinematic. If it is pretty amazing, breathtaking, moving, memorable as hell, well it is Cinematic. When you become immersed in the movie, feeling like you are really there, not Just watching it, that is when it is Cinematic.

There is just an incredible amount of beautiful birds in Florida. And a lot of other types of wildlife also. The Everglades is just a breathtaking, amazing place to go also. I am looking forward to being back. Going to the Saint Petersburg area this time. I am getting too old for the heat in the summer in the Keys, my favorite place.
