If I get the chance I'll pick up an S9 as a B cam to my S5mk2 and sell my S5. I really like having smaller gear! What I'd really like is the S1H to be in an S5mk2 body with the same or improved LCD and EVF of the S1H. I have no desire to go back to an S1 size camera.

I agree that Lumix seems to be wasting an opportunity in the small "pocket" camera market. I think a GX80 successor with the G9's innards with PDAF, mic input and headphone jack would be a real winner, especially with the Realtime Luts. With the tiny lenses M4/3 has it could open a whole new market for Lumix. The GX80 is the only camera i have ever regretted selling. I'm mainly a video guy (professional) but I've just ordered a secondhand GX80 and a couple of tiny primes to try to improve my photography as for me it hits that sweet spot of small size and usability. I had looked at the GX850 but it lacked physical controls. The tiny primes and zooms really should be a strong selling point.

I actually think the S9 now looks pretty interesting. I had considered trading my S5 for a S9 but the recording limits and a few other things put me off. Now I'm reconsidering it again! In fact, if the S9 had the same lens bundles on offer as the S5mk2 then I'd probably go for it. I really like the idea of lightening the gear I carry and a S5mk2 with a S9 seems to make more sense than the S5mk2 and S5 (apart from the spending money bit😆). They have the same PDAF which I now use a lot as well as the punch in to check focus and have the exact same look. Hmmm🤔

I think the problem might actually be ours rather than Lumix's. If we listen to all these ridiculous rumours from the Alpine verandah and other such places then of course we'll be disappointed. It seems there was no hype from Lumix as this was a pretty straight forward announcement. It included a classic Lumix strong point, up dating firmware to existing cameras as well as formally introducing a lens they had said would come. Nothing wrong with that as it seems they never hyped up something big. Still, we really could do with reliable info as to where the Lumix S line is going. They actually have some pretty good You Tubers who use and promote the brand without going overboard. They should start to feed them some solid info.

So when is the announcement happening?

Maybe you are right. The offers here in Spain are very good as well. For example I could pick up a S5mk2 with a Lumix 85 1.8 and a Sigma 16-28 2.8 for 2614€. Incredible value but maybe a sign that all is not well.

I hope that they do announce that the S1H2 will be appearing in 2025 as well a strong hint about the specs, even if tomorrow is really to announce lesser stuff. The Panasonic line up has been the best bang for buck video kit for a number of years. It's versatile, reliable and enjoyable to use. It'd be a real shame if they don't follow up on the success of the S5mk2/X.

A faster 6K sensor would work for me. It’s really useful. If the could push the second dual ISO up to 6400 it might five it that little bit extra it could do with in low light

I think the Sigma 28-105 2.8 and the 16-28 2.8 look a real killer combo.

Agree, they only really need to address cropping (faster readout) and some kind of ND if possible. They’ve got just about everything else right.

I hope they aren't going to pull out of the market as they've finally produced what we've always wanted, the usual solid Lumix cameras but with good AF! There are loads of super offers for Lumix camera at the official retailers here in Spain. Free 85mm 1.8 with every S5mk2 as well as discounts on other packs with more lenses. I hope that doesn't mean they are clearing out stock before closing shop!

Maybe you’d be better off with another S5 mk2. It seems like your sweet spot.

Surely then you aren't really gaining anything from using the S9. I'd imagine that it's selling point is being as small and light as possible. Anyway, glad to hear it didn't overheat although I'm not sure how it's manage 40 degrees like in Madrid.

I’d buy it immediately if it cost 1000-1200€

As a Scot living in Spain for decades I’ve been able to enjoy 2 very different experiences. The usual hope and suffering as a Scotland fan as we invent new ways to get kicked out asap. I also get to support Spain, my home for the last 22 years and it a joy to watch them. They’ve been the best team by a mile so far. I hope they win as their football merits it!

Is that photo or video? For video I feel I have it under control. I flick between CAF and MF. It’s photos when I’m at a fast moving event when I struggle. I think that you recommend using single shot AF there rather than CAF unless I’m mistaken!

Ok, Single shot? I think i have human rather than face and eye. I’ll need to change that! I usually use one area expanded or whole area.

Thanks Davide but I’m asking about the S5mk2. I’m not sure if that’s still the best way to go or CAF is better.

Shit! That’s a real bummer on job! That’s when clients are glad they have hired a pro, there’s alway plan b or c and more kit.

AF question! i’ve got the video AF working pretty well most of the time but I’m not getting the same consistency when photographing people at events (when there are multiple people and things changing quickly). What settings is everybody using? CAF o single AF? One area or something different? Any help is appreciated!
