  1. Agreed. Whatever the part of the brain is that makes us ruminate on things we’re interested in is a helluva piece of biology. When I’m bored i gravitate toward this as im highly curious about the a7C II. As a non-pro im happy with my iPhone and Ricoh griiix for travel and family. But I’d like to have a second higher end kit to shoot my athletes running (video and photo) make educational documentaries and travel vids that have a “cinematic” look. Internal LUTs are a big selling point to me as well as compact, great AF, and doesn’t easily overheat in my use cases. Im done with Fuji till AF is as good as Panasonic or better. Panasonics s5ii fits the bill but the system bill may deter me from using it so that leaves the r7/8, a6700/fx30, a7cII. Once released, I’ll be able to figure out if im going to have a higher end kit comprising 1 hybrid camera or a kit comprised of fx30 for video and a used a7C or a6600 for action photo and travel. Being an over thinker and ruminator I feel I’m in some good company here!
  2. The fact that I’ve been dedicated that S5II has unreal fan/cooking means, to me, any manufacturer not doing it just doesn’t care because it can be done and at a reasonable cost.
  3. Sadly I agree. If it could record 1 hour plus in any environment then it’s not reliable
  4. my man says 1 hour plus for 24p and 37 minutes for 60p on both cameras
  5. Well said. I happen to follow much of these YT channels because they’re usually the only ones getting advance copies of tech we’re interested in and put out content displaying the quality. I just try to recognize use their bias when possible.
  6. Seems odd to assume buying a fan stops companies from making built in fans. Panasonic did it. And also interesting that you care so deeply about others decisions.
  7. What’s the reasons to grab an fx30 over S5II. Is S5II AF up to snuff
  8. It was brought up in another thread that S5II has an internal fan. I concede all other points I’ve said. If they can do it so can all other manufacturers. Agree that this is absurd.

  10. Does that translate to small cameras
  11. That’s awesome you’ve used these devices. While they don’t look attractive compared to a built in fan, are you confident they work similarly? How much extra record time did you get? may wait for a7C II is announced before making a decision, but having a fan that’s effective and cheap may do as you said - remove need for 2 bodies.

  13. So an a6700 with a fan looks like an attractive offer. Will look into it as I was considering an fx30 and a used a6600 for hybrid use on travel.
  14. Well then there’s no purpose in distinguishing pro and hobbyist as it seems we’ve deducted professional into a postmodern whatever we say it is. Not in a bad way just that good points were raised. the reality is what we have so we have to decide what we’re willing to accept and what makes sense for us. the fx30/a6700 makes a ton of sense for me when i dip back in. Small bodies for travel and compact lenses are hugely important for me as a non-paid user. Throwing it in a bag for a flight and filming is great and the aesthetics of the Sony image is desirable. The Fuji like burned me on AF for both video and photo. Canon lens game is too pricey for a hobbyist like me. Panasonic is looking good but body and lens size are a bit big. all good points here
  15. I’m not an engineer and I take it nobody else here is so this is just resentment and speculation. On my part as well. Trust me - I’d pay a little more for active heat dissipation/cooling. Still, I’m not convinced that non-pros are recording for 30 minutes at a clip. I’ve never seen it, I don’t see it on YT, I don’t do it, and anyone I know with a cam doesn’t either. The only folks I’ve seen film weddings, movies, or YT video podcasts. At this point, it is what it is. Sony offers affordable options in the fx30 for video creation. It would be nice to have both film and video in one camera. I suppose LUMIX is an option for that crowd. I, personally, find FF bodies and lenses too large for travel/my needs and so APSC seems like a great option for a non-pro. Curious, if a professional why not use a cinema camera? Are we using the word professional differently?
  16. Just another thought for a hobbyist here - I can’t imagine why I’d be filming for 20-60m straight in 98 degree humidity continuously. And if I was using it for work/professionally I’d probably be using a cinema camera. id love to have a c70 but I can’t afford it and don’t need it. So maybe an a6700 does make sense.
