You’re not wrong about cameras and getting a good image. The real area I’m exploring is so some cameras produce better images than those good enough ones and can you do it with less lighting, grading etc. the more I explore the more I think yes - there’s a difference in those two questions on an r6 or s5 vs. an fx3 or c70
-
Ha - no I didn't google. I was close!!! So I am confused - correct me if I misunderstand, but are you saying Clog, Clog 2, Clog 3, Slog 3, Flog, Vlog - are the determining factor of how cinematic (highlight roll-off capability) and not other factors in the camera? I may be misreading because it seems that clog3 on the R6 isn't nearly as good as clog2 or 3 on the c70.

They all look like XT1's hacked from Driftwood.

Thanks ! Love stuff like this... so Video 1 - hard to evaluate it was 720p and looked poor due to that but I could tell the production was high Video 2 - I thought it had too much contrast/crushed blacks, well lit but it was so dynamic and moving around too much to enjoy or evaluate the image Video 3 - Not bad, looks like video but with really good lighting Video 4 - Looked the best due to anamorphic I believe, the color was pretty good though a little greenish The difference is I believe the video I shared has better DR, highlight roll-off, color, resolve and all done in camera with no lighting, etc. if that makes sense

Great points! I will be spending the next week thoroughly shooting and trying to grade the R6 Clog 3. Here is another video he took with the FX3:
-
any resources you recommend to learn to grade like that?
-
Sounds like I will be shooting several clips this week in Clog 3 and trying to use resolve to grade using tutorials. I do like the idea of having a separate video camera and photography camera. I really like the stealth and portability of the Fuji x100v for photography and would like to have a dedicated camera for video. I guess I'm questioning whether or not the R6 is the right tool for that.
-
I struggle with this - so much of what I see from those cameras (GH6/S5, etc.) looks like video to me and what I am seeing on a C70/FX3 looks more cinema-like.
-
Could you unpack this ?
-
I’m finding the image very video like on the R6 and wish it had clog2. It seems that slog3 gives a flatter profile and easier to create highlight rolloff in post ? watching clips of Fuji it just looks like video and same with gh6. I’ve seen the best images from c70, r5c, and fx3 - do you disagree ?
-
What makes you say that. - comparing to the r6?
-
Doing some snooping and loving the look of the FX3. I've not had the best of time trying to use the R6 as a run/gun video camera and I can't say the highlight roll-off looks cinematic. I feel like the FX3 can look similar to the c70 with SLog3. I am consider getting rid of the R6 and getting the FX6 for video and a used x100v for photo. Any thoughts?

With all that equipment and production, I'm not sure if it is the camera, the styling choice of production ,or the grading but I'm not really into it. I don't like the coloring still, sadly.
-
Is anyone else finding the skin tones and general image to be very video-like? More so than even the xt2? Every video I’ve watched today actual was like an ad not to buy into this system.
-
thanks, i'll need to reread and digest this. Is this process possible on FCP or would i have to purchase and learn resolve?
-
So i'll give Clog3 a go before I plan to jump ship. I was thinking of picking up the x100v for a daily driver/travel cam so I can check out the profiles they offer. I am currently on an M1 mac and have access to FCP - though I hear people Resolve is the best, I will start there. Thanks
-
Yea i'm slowly resigning myself to learn how to use log, luts, and some color grading. Do you think the R6 will be feasible for an amateur hobbyist or would an XT4/x100V be a better platform (less grading knowledge needed)
-
They are in focus - but I took a screenshot on my mac from a video, but if you want the video it's in focus. The color is what I'm after, I find it stunning. I would think an R6 could get pretty damn close to the c70 they're using but i'm not sure my skillset is up to par and not sure if the time would be intensive. I was considering a Fuji since the SOOC are pretty stunning; so i'm in a bit of pickle
-
The files labeled "Video" are from the c70 they used and I find it to be absolutely stunning, If i could achieve that on my R6 I would keep it and ask how to do this. (1st three that pop up are x100v; rest are c70) The rest are from the Fuji X100V, which I was wondering if I should pick up for photography and use R6 for video? - I reached out to the guy that edited these because I find them to be amazing.

I’m a school teacher and really want to get into photos be video but don’t want to get into complex editing. Fast turn around etc is important. I have the R6. I’m curious how I’d go about getting a similar look on FCP and R6. also for photo this was amazing and why I love the Fuji colors
-
Jesus Christ I’d kill my grandmother to find a camera and easy workflow to get color like this: What in the actual hell!
-
Do you suggest any videos or blogs to improve competency for the camera. The XT2 was legit I turned it on and boom amazing color. I’d love to get to that point. You think the R6 color equals XT4?
-
Thanks! I should have said Option A is really just learning from someone how to get excellent colors from Canon without using Log or Log3. Do you have any good thoughts or references? i'd like to just shoot and print or shoot and upload like I did with my XT2 years ago.

Thanks! Good insight. So I am not a professional, I am a hobbyist/enthusiast - overthinking/nerd. I want to create memorable and cinematic family videos, roadtrip/travel videos, and shoot the athletes I work with (indoor gyms/outdoor tracks) ... mostly video but some photo. The SOOC color/cinematic look is by far the most important to me. I've been making mistakes jumping from system to system over a few years because I keep thinking I'm going to have the time/desire to learn to color grade etc. But I'm conceding I do not have interest or time to do so. Option A - Figure out how to get the Canon R6 to get SOOC colors on par with Fuji Option B - Replace the Canon R6 with an all-in-one Hybrid system that can cover my needs for SOOC color/cinematic feel Option C - Replace the Canon R6 with a dedicated video camera and another dedicated photo camera I understand most are paid professionals here but that is why I come to this forum - if you were in my position or advising a close friend/family member what would you say?

Been trying to find a hybrid setup that really does travel, family, and sport events 70/30 video:photo the best color I had was my Fuji XT2 but the low light and autofocus sucked. Then went to a7iii and now R6. im wondering if there’s a way to get pretty excellent SOOC color as I don’t have the time to learn color grading or time ? Maybe canon and Sony aren’t for me if I’m not willing to learn. or maybe I need to get an xt4 for video and another camera for photo? Any thoughts?
