Why do YT reviewers say that they’re the pipeline between camera companies and us users? Why can’t they just borrow a unit from a local shop to make a review and garner views that way? it seems to me that they’re just finding a niche to make a living by making ads for companies. Nothing wrong with that but the veneer that you guys do this for anything but compensation is the issue. “I wasn’t paid for this review” but was flown out and had a trip paid for? Didn’t Gerald say you guys use this as a chance to make videos for sponsors to get paid? nothing wrong with making a living but in a field where comments drive views and revenue it would seem being honest and not doing gymnastics to skirt the reality would help?

100^ on point. To think the only way to legit be into camera and video is to learn color grading is quite odd. I’m going to die someday. Let me have optimal color or near optimal with minimal work - for the platform of socials and YouTube. That’s it. This camera is a massive step in that direction. Panasonic is really stepping up whereas canon is just like huh

A few things, 1. Gerald’s video confirms that these folks can’t be trusted as independent sources. Yes they’re not paid but a free trip to hang out with friends is an incentive to want to be in their good graces. 2. he noted they used these as trips to make content for a sponsor - aka a paid commercial. Again, not trustworthy 3. this camera doesn’t need a mechanical shutter because it’s not for pro level use. It’s for people on vacation or with their family. 4. this camera isn’t for YouTubers or wedding videographers. It’s for the person taking short bursts of video with friends, family, and when traveling. 5. if Panasonic can get it right with lenses then this will be a line that makes sense. If this currently had a 2.8 pancake this easily is more desirable than some of its competitors. 6. not every camera has to be for every market, this def. Targets schmucks like me who don’t want to color grade 🤭

You can click right the fuck off lol

True but it destroys Fuji for that market now. It’s not even close and I’m excited to see what folks do with it in that space

What’s a better setup if you were traveling? Ricoh and Pocket or just the s9 for both
-
I think for some who don’t want to spend time in post, these software features are truly moving the needle forward in a very positive way.
-
And pocket 3 ! I love the portability of my Ricoh gr3x but for video I was liking the pocket 3 but man, the s9 images I’m starting to see are pretty amazing. I’m fixated on the garbage f8 released with it but I’m now curious are there 3rd party options for the s9 that have small footprint lenses that can be thrown alongside the s9 Ina. Fanny pack?

I've hit saturation after this one - well made video. Still boils down to: 1. The software improvements with LUTs are really inspiring and hopeful moving forward 2. The image is top notch and can't complain, absolutely beautiful 3. The body size is overshadowed by the large lenses - might as well just use an S5II 4. If they can figure out a good audio solution and a true pancake 2.8-4 lens i'd consider this as the ultimate EDC/travel combo (until then, i'll stick to my Ricoh and possible a pocket 3)

Sorry, but if you shrink the body to be “portable” and don’t have small lenses to compliment it - waste of time. F8? It’s laughable. lack of audio monitoring features even for short clips? Get outta here. For this style of creation a pair of a pocket 3 and Ricoh GR 3x makes a tone more sense and despite being two devices is more usable and portable. software is the win here. Other brands need to jump on board with RD into onboarding LUT features for jpg and video. The x100 crowd would eat it up. if Panasonic had pancake lenses that hit 2.8-4 and an updated audio solution they’d have a killer combo. The image for video is better than Fuji or Sony at this compact level with Lut features. No need for “velvia” if you’ve got out options. Fully frame and no need for a gimbal? Yea I’d buy one in a heartbeat.

Best update is the LUT features. The actual camera seems like a dud.
-
Better image, DR, and usability for non sport situations
-
I’d pick the pocket 3.

Sorry I meant this crop of cameras not ursa lol
