  1. The drone and gopro groups have lots of photos of broken micro SD cards - as in snapped in half. I use them because I have to in my drone and gopro, but anywhere else I'd personally avoid it. Again, just me, but no way. Plus they're so small and you can't lock them to prevent accidentally recording over footage you want to save, its not a very robust solution. Chris
  2. I'm just impressed about the fact there are multiple camera review YT embeds on this page and none of them have the 'make a stupid face that says "I just shit myself" while holding a camera' thumbnails. Footage looks really good out of this camera. Red seems to have a big winner on its hands, the RF mount is a great move because the glass is so good with some pretty amazing AF capabilities and those killer Canon EF adapters. After all these years of failed budget camera promises, they finally did 6k for $6k. Chris
  3. I deliver 4k and HD, mostly via dropbox. The HD is for smaller files to share, the 4k is because everyone likes to see their project on big 4k tv's and it gives them a master file for other distribution needs. Plus its a better Youtube upload. Sometimes I put everything on a flash drive (crazy how cheap 8 or 16gb drives are these days) if they want physical media. Its really up to the end user. Chris
  4. Meanwhile someone in Texas just posted an ad on Fred Miranda's Buy/Sell boards offering one of the two R5's that he says are being delivered Friday. Anything the bald guy claims is a load of BS, he clearly has zero insider knowledge and just makes up clickbait garbage. He's just a gear collector that rambles about nonsense. He's been called out for stealing images and claiming they were his. Chris
  5. Same, I get the technical aspects, I can balance the RGB parade and get rid of casts easily, but the fine tuning is where I constantly question myself and when things are off, just making them right. And I'm looking to gain more knowledge of just making a shot that's technically balanced look better, a lot of that seem to be in the midtones. Chris
  6. Any chance you can share some before/after frames from the cameras you listed, that's a wide mix, curious to see how well those LUT's marry all of that together. TIA. Chris
  7. I just got the same book, going to start on it today. I feel I have a decent understanding of the basics - getting the RGB parade sorted between 0-100 IRE, removing color casts, getting faces on the skintone line and such. But its all the fine tuning that I sometimes struggle with - like getting shots in different lighting conditions to match better and just making the image pop a little more. Lots of reviews say experienced colorists learn stuff from the book, so I'm a sponge ready to soak up the knowledge. Good luck! Chris
  8. AF is even better with the new Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 DG DN lens. Chris
  9. Double post of spec leak. But CDAF is a no go for me either, need accurate and reliable AF for stills and video. That wonky DFD pulsing is the worst. Chris
  10. More SOOC footage at 50/100p from the "No Limits" launch video by Jacques Crafford. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kYjaH84X9871d8-Rmuj9DOXfmtAH6V6i?fbclid=IwAR3LPZ7njD6UadrWtejYeGQHq5hfTCNOKXBrdliOZ4w4cvrja5IrzGgRnhY
  11. Rolling shutter times are in and they are impressive.
  12. Absolutely amazing that a 45mp sensor going from 8k > 4k also has class leading rolling shutter, IBIS and AF. This is probably the greatest love/hate camera ever produced.
  13. LOL! Does that mean the 1dx3 mirrorless flagship will be as bad as the Vader Scream from Ep. 3? Raw light would be a great addition along with Clog 3, but I still wonder what can be done about overheating with just FW updates.
  14. Does boost work with people talking like in an interview setting? Looking for ways to get normalize audio dynamics when people are speaking - since most talk loud and soft while answering questions - without doing too much in an audio editor. Thanks! Chris
  15. We're going to need to carry a laminated spreadsheet of all the possible recording options and the overheating protocols while working with the R5. I really want to like this camera, I really do. SMH. Chris
  16. I've done that before, just loosely hold it at the base of the head with the leg extended and its pretty floaty like a glidecam. I agree with what you're saying about the versatility of a monopod, makes it easy for quick stabilization, anything high or low, fake crane/jib shots and more. Its funny, I bought the Manfrotto video tripod with the crappy head and pretty much abandoned my much nicer fluid head tripod. I actually sold my big video tripod after lugging it to dozens of shoots and never actually using it. I still find myself browsing tripods when I get the B&H notice one of them is on sale, after using sticks for so long, its weird not having one. I think a better head will take care of that though. As far as a gimbal, it definitely depends on what you're doing. I'm doing walking stuff at 24p, so handheld is a little too shaky for me no matter how smooth I try to walk. It just makes me more efficient. If you're shooting 60p or higher for slow-mo, there's really no need for a gimbal. But I do like the parallax when you have close elements in the foreground and the camera on a gimbal, its what I like best about drone shots too. Ultimately, its just another tool in the toolbox. Cheers Chris
  17. The results people are getting are all over the map. Another cards in/out, screen on/off test, here's the summary: 1.Internal Recording to the SD Card, Overheated at 28:58 2. Internal Recording to the CFexpress, Overheated at 27:33, Then I switched over to external recording with my Atomos Shogun, again, capturing 24P 422LT 4k. 3. External Recording, SD Card, Screen on, Overheated 15:02 4. External Recording, No Cards, Screen off, Bateries died 2h49 5. External Recording, SD Card Inside, Screen off, Overheated at 1h53 6. External Recording, CFEXPRESS Card Inside, Screen off, Overheated After 2 Hours 7. External Recording, No Cards, Screen on, Overheated 41:56
  18. GoPro footage always look like GoPro footage unless you hire the company that does the post work on their promo videos. It great for action cam stuff, and the 7/8 have great stabilization. I shoot most of my stuff from a video monopod or a gimbal, the QR plate makes swapping a snap and I mostly use one lens so I'm not constantly rebalancing. But after a little practice its really quick to rebalance - at least it is with the Weebill. But I wouldn't use GoPro footage as a substitute for an XT3 unless it involved water or POV inside a car - just a situtaion where a larger camera that's not waterproof is impractical. Either way, they're very different, mostly because of the GoPro IQ - I always have one in the bag, but I find I rarely use it when there are better alternatives. YMMV. Chris
  19. Why would it be doomed? The lens lineup is pretty comprehensive for the intended market and its just a mirrorless version of their APSc dslr lineup. There's no need for 2.8 zooms and such, and by all accounts the M line sells really well. More new bodies are in the rumor mill. The costs to develop are minimal compared to something like the R5 which doesn't have multiple models to spread costs over and get an additional return from greater sales. As of now there's no 5d5/6d3 to spread out costs of cameras like the R5/R6 and no entry level stuff in the RF mount, and nothing that would fill that void in the announced lenses. The M mount has its place. Hindsight is 20/20, the RF mount should have been their one and only mirrorless mount from the beginning, but they can't go back and change that. Will we see more lenses? Not likely, but I'm sure we'll see new bodies until they don't sell in numbers to justify their existence. I'd be willing to bet in 5 years we're still getting new M bodies. It really doesn't make any sense to kill M bodies until they aren't profitable, but at that would likely mean the entry level APSc dslr's would also be dead. Chris
  20. Downloadable ALL-I footage here:
  21. Pretty sure all the dual card Sony's write photos to both cards at the same time. The a73 and a7r3 do and both of those got stuck with a cheap UHS-I slot, I'm sure the s3 will write to both. Sony needs to get off their arse and publish the full spec sheet instead of the overview we have now. Chris
  22. ^^^WTF is this? Is that Australian Football?^^^ I spent a few weeks there touring around in a van, tried to get rugby tickets, but it was my first time driving on the wrong side of the road and I would have needed to cross Sydney at night which is probably a bad idea LOL! No wonder its so tough to find a lens, you're dealing with that funky shaped field haha! Good luck with your search. Chris
  23. I just looked at that list, its been updated since I bought my Samsung drive a couple months ago, more drives including the Angelbird/Atomos and the Sony Atom X's now have the untested/failed red dots with raw. Wonder what's up with that?
  24. Tracking does work with a monitor, but there's one exception he encountered. He said touch tracking works fine with a clean feed from the camera like when you're recording, the exception is when you have the display icons on your monitor that show settings and AF point - then the camera LCD goes dark and you lose touch tracking. It starts at about 56:25. Another bug that could be fixed with a FW update. Chris I use the Samsung EVO 860, 2tb for about $300, and the Ninja includes one drive caddy so you're good. I did buy the Anglebird cable though to get footage to my computer.
  25. I thought the Dpreview test blurb was odd, on the one hand they say its not intended for video professionals despite Canon's marketing claims. Then he says wedding shooters are one of the the target demographics. Pretty sure most wedding shooters dropping over $4000 on a body (counting CFexpress cards to record top spec video) are getting paid. And there are a ton of wedding videographers that have shot with the 5d's over the years - and this is what Canon calls its mirrorless 5d. Its definitely targeting everyone that's moved over to Sony-land and are now shooting video with cameras like the a73. To be forced into low quality 4k mode after just taking photos since that also triggers the thermal limits, on top of shelling out that kind of cash was the dealbreaker for me. Add to that the fact the camera drops photo quality too when it gets hot - something all Canon's do, but this one seems to hit that threshold much quicker. I really have to work to get the EOS R to hit that point, but its a deliberate effort, not while on an actual shoot. I've been out in the sun quite a bit with it and haven't had any issues. Despite all of the great things the R5 has going for it, its an amazing spec sheet and top spec IQ is fantastic - its a hard pass with those limitations. Chris
