NX1 vs. Blackmagic Cinema Camera (EF mount)
Neil Anderson replied to Neil Anderson's topic in Cameras
I get where you're coming from, it's just hard to invest in a camera (that I know I won't be able to upgrade for a while) that can't do 2K or higher, but I'm also not trying to fetishize resolution specs. I wouldn't be getting the speedbooster at least right away. So, if I want a filmic 1080p look the pocket camera really delivers just as well? I'm mostly concerned with getting a quality image, and the felxibility of having the extra details of 2.5K in post also seem nice. Do you think the NX 1 is competition for the pocket camera then, or between those two you'd go for the pocket? -

Thanks Neoshushi. You care to elaborate Ironfilm? I can't find any good deals on the MFT version, and there are plenty of lens options for the EF mount. What do you have against the cinema camera versus the pocket camera? Btw Mattias-where did you put up that wtb post for the NX 1? on this site? thats a pretty great deal. -

Ok, good to know. Mattias-obviously its nice to have a wide angle and a more telephoto lens, but if you could only choose one of these as the first lens for the bmcc which would you choose? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/884099-REG/Rokinon_cv35_c_35mm_T1_5_Cine_Lens.html https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1078644-REG/rokinon_ds14m_c_ds_14mm_t3_1_cine.html Again, thanks for your insight. -

NX1 vs. Blackmagic Cinema Camera (EF mount)

This is so helpful. At the end of the day I am most interested in not having a "video" look, stills would be a plus, but they are not necessary. I was wondering if the reason why there aren't any comparisons is because the choice is pretty obviously the bmcc, and this seems to be the case. -
This may seem like an odd question(I can't find any comparisons online), but I'm in the price range of both rigs-I know that the bmcc needs alot of accessories, my question is when it actually comes down to image quality with a good lens does the 4K win out, or is the 2.5K blackmagic the camera to reach for? Has anyone used both? Does the fact that Samsung has stopped supporting the camera really end up making that much of a difference? I'm going to be scaling down to 1080p eventually if that makes any difference so I'm not interested in the 4K for that reason, just for added detail. Also, I'm trying to shoot narrative films not documentaries.

Thanks for the informative answer Jonpais. I read advice from someone else saying that Vlog on the panasonic GH4 is worthless in its native 8 bit, so you have to buy more equipment to capture it in 10 bit. Is this the case? In that case cine profiles are the best option for grading in both the GH4 and the G85?
-
Newbie question, but does this fact about the G85 make any difference to 4K content that is bounced down into 1080 in post? "While the G85 shares a lot of features with its bigger GH4 brother, the G85 only includes a choice of MP4 or AVCHD video formats, no MOV. 4K video, which is offered only in MP4 format, is recorded at a 100Mbps bit rate, while AVCHD tops out at 28Mbps for 1080p." I know the GH4 can record at 200 mbps, what does this difference actually mean?
-
Cassius, you have experience with it? I see that its a big set up, but what are the issues with it? What would you recommend in that price range for smooth shots and arm/wrist relief, if not that?
-
Nice, would you recommend something like that over this setup: https://www.amazon.com/DNA-Glide-Gear-5050-Stabilization/dp/B00DP8NY3O It looks like i can get either one for about 500$
-
Thanks for the input I'm leaning towards the GH4 still, partly because its actually got a proven track record.
-
Has anyone here been able to test the G85? If you had to choose which one would you purchase? (GH 5 will not be in my price range). I am really interested in the stabilization system but disappointed by the lack of Vlog capability in the G85, and its lack of true cine 4k. But if my plan is to bounce the 4k down into 1080 for greater detail I've been told that UHD does this just as well as cine 4K, is this the case? Are there other reasons for choosing one over the other? Thanks for any and all advice. Also, is the lack of stabilization on the GH4 really that crippling if I'm using a non-stabilized lens? I plan on getting the glide gear 6000/5050 combo with my camera purchase, but would handheld shots be out of the picture with the GH4?

Best micro 4/3 lens for shooting 4K video on GH4
Neil Anderson replied to Neil Anderson's topic in Cameras
Man, I was about to go with the GH4, but the lack of image stabilization that people have pointed out here is worrisome. I plan on ordering the DNA 6000 and 5050 (cheap) steadicam combo as well, but it worries me that any handheld shots will basically be unusable (especially without a stabilized lens). Has the stabilization issue been a deal breaker for people? The two things that keep me coming back to the GH4 (besides battery life) are Vlog abilities and the ability to get true 24fps with cine 4k. This question is slightly off topic, but if my plan is to bounce the 4K image down into 1080 for better detail, does it matter whether its being bounced down from true cine 4K or UHD? -
Best micro 4/3 lens for shooting 4K video on GH4

I can't wait around, and I'm only paying 930$ for a new GH4 won't be able to afford the GH5 when it comes out anyway. Are there image-related reasons for choosing a different 4K shooter? I've considered the G7, but I live in Florida and I don't like the non-weather sealed plastic body and the short batter life (in 4K) and the lack of true cine 4K and the Vlog option. but I'm not as familiar with the G80 or G85. What are the benefits of either one of those versus the GH4? Thanks for all the responses by the way. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Voigtlander 17.5 -
Obviously it's nice to have multiple lenses for different situations. However, if you had to choose one (micro 4/3) lens for shooting narrative films on the GH4 (without a speedbooster) in 4k what would you choose? Thanks in advance for any assistance with this question. I was thinking about these options: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1134184-REG/veydra_v1_25t22m43i_m..., or https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1044065-REG/voigtlander_ba259m2_n... but is a jack of all trades like one of these the better option: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/968587-REG/panasonic_14_140mm_f_3_5_5_6_ois_micro.html or https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/768816-REG/Panasonic_H_X025_Leica_DG_Summilux_25.html. but...I was reccomnded these: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1003635-REG/olympus_v314060bu000_m_zuiko_digital_ed.html ,https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/855215-REG/Voigtlander_BA175M_Nokton_17_5mm_f_0_95_Lens.html Any advice is greatly appreciated.
