The M versions were actually VGA. That made all the difference
-
The DP1-3M's have got video. Its fair to say that its not quite as good as the stills quality of those cameras.

Well.....curiosity got the better of me so in the interests of this thread I've just opened up one of my original 128gig 1.8 RedMags to see what drive was in it. The upside is that the size quoted on the outside of the case is accurate. So the new, erm, "policy" of labelling them with usable space doesn't apply. Another upside is that if I want to replace the drive in case of failure then I can still readily buy it for about £20 I'd have to check back on what the KoolAid recipe was at the time in terms of the claims of proprietary internal voodoo controllers and the Made In The USA stuff being responsible for the eye watering cost of this off the shelf made in the Philippines drive that was a standard part in notebooks such as the Sony Vaio at the time. The firmware version is +1 from what I've seen marked on other pictures of this drive (which are CJGA0201) but whether that means its a special (though I'd expect the prefix to be different) or just a later batch and the firmware was updated by Toshiba is open to debate. Anyway, nothing earth shattering or unexpected but it was a chance to use my new screwdriver so it wasn't an entirely futile exercise.

Both but from the HDMI recorders they list as being compatible it will only be the USB-C that will be recording RAW.
-
Unfortunately, there are no adapters that allow you to have electronic control of Nikon lenses from an MFT camera. On the upside, think of the cost saving from only having to buy a dumb adapter !
-
Nah, I think that was just a bullshit rumour.

They have certainly muddied the waters over what the actual spec is. However.....this caught my eye in the press release Logically, this would kind of suggest that it can record CinemaDNG internally but that playback will come at a later date. But I think its more likely that its relating to playing them back off an external USB-C SSD as I strongly suspect "external recording" refers to that type of "recording" medium rather than the sort of recorders that it would normally mean as I think these references to the external recorders in the spec are a bit of a red herring as neither of these recorders can do CinemaDNG anyway. The "compatibility" with those types of recorder such as it is might actually just refer to HDMI record trigger. //// EDIT //// Found it in a video someone did at the presentation so it does look like the external HDMI recorders thing is a red herring. //// EDIT 2 //// Actually, that video is an interesting watch anyway but particularly from the point I've linked it from here to see the removable strap holder system that then lets you attach accessories instead and also how they are making the 3D models of the shell available on their website for people to build their own rigs and accessories around.

Thank you, thats very kind. I had an XT20 and used to use it for that but the issue was, with it being APS-C, the additional bulk of the faster lenses started becoming a bit self defeating in terms of keeping it compact. The appeal of switching to the A7Rii was having the option of using small M mount lenses (with AF on the TechArt adapter) as well as compact primes like this Samyang. When you look at the overall form factor of an A7Rii with say a 7Artisans 35mm f2 versus trying to get that equivalence on the XT20 which would be the 23mm f1.4 then it actually becomes quite marginal. Of course there is still the option in the A7Rii of switching to APS-C mode to use with the small Sigma primes as well so its a bit more versatile for me. Plus the resolution bump it has over the XT20 and IBIS of course ! I have a soft spot for the GX80 but its a similar story in some ways with regard to when you add equivalent lenses, particularly when you get speed boosters involved.

Sigma were making an issue about the new cooling system so hopefully it won't but time will tell. be.

Another 35mm here This one is the 3rd of the used lenses I got on my recent trip and is the Samyang AF 35mm f/2.8 FE for Sony. Its cheap, compact, lightweight, the AF is decent and its sharp. Against that is its not particularly fast (though that is offset somewhat by it being for FF cameras) and has about as much character as an Ikea cabinet. Definitely a good all rounder though for general travel stuff on a FF.

With regard to power, the official page references an adapter for DC power so perhaps the dummy battery won't be necessary. https://www.sigma-global.com/en/cameras/fp-series/functions/ The webpages are dog slow, possibly indicating that there is far more interest in this camera than Sigma were expecting ! I'm obviously curious about them saying they are will be providing open specs for people to develop accessories for it but, curiously, there is no reference anywhere to if the camera has WiFi or BLE.

I picked up a cheap A7Rii a few weeks ago primarily for that purpose. If you are just using it for stills and M mount lenses then I'd honestly recommend getting the TechArt PRO LM-EA7 adapter. The EVF is actually fine for manual focusing on the A7Rii but the TechArt takes away the doubt and gives you accurate autofocus for the M lenses (and any other manual lens you can adapt to M mount) and the other advantage is it gives you much closer minimum focus than a regular M to E adapter. It adds a small amount of weight and battery drain to the camera (and around £200 to the budget) but to me its worth considering for the functionality it brings and pretty much turns the A7Rii into a high resolution Leica M with autofocus.
-
Yeah, I was wrong with that assumption ! It uses Sigma's BP-51 battery which is the same as the Panasonic DMW-BLC12 used in the GH2,FZ1000 etc so there are plenty of dummy batteries available. If they don't do it over that then they probably will over the director's viewfinder function in it

They are talking about a release in the Autumn so its not that far off but, yeah, I reckon if we all roll our sleeves up we can get to 50 pages before we even find out the price
-
Yeah, there is a lot more detail in the Newsshooter piece but still some confusion. According to that, Sigma have said it records CinemaDNG to the Ninja Inferno. Now unless I've missed a firmware update to my Ninja Inferno, it doesn't actually support CinemaDNG so... With regard to recording to USB SSD it states it is supported for high speed recording but says its unclear whether it will do CinemaDNG If I had to guess, I'd say its far more likely to record CinemaDNG to the SSD but we'll have to wait and see. https://www.newsshooter.com/2019/07/11/sigma-fp-a-pocketable-full-frame-cine-stills-hybrid/

Battery life has never been Sigma's strong point with their other cameras but the Foveon processing was a big drain so this should be different. However, having to play the video at 0.25x on YouTube to get these ( ) but it does look like it can be USB powered which makes things a bit easier. And talking of USB....... Unless that 2TB drive is there for show then it appears it might well record directly out of it as well.
-
I have that particular loupe as it was bundled with my Sigma DP0. Its very good to be fair but a bit bulky and not cheap on its own The Foveon ones are certainly but this a Bayer so should be a different kettle of fish. Kind of disappointed they didn't reveal more about the new Foveon FF one.
-
Not as yet. If I was to speculate, then as it doesn't have an EVF and is modular so the grip is extra etc then the base unit will have to be well below an existing FF mirrorless like an S1 that has those things to appeal to consumers? I'm going to be bold and say £1299 I wish it had an EVF add on option like the Leica T/TL though. But even as it stands, this is as close as it gets to a full frame original BMPCC.
-
Man alive that is compact for full frame. And as for this And it seems they've got a new heat sink system as well Looks like Sigma weren't just there to make up the numbers when it came to making cameras in the L mount alliance ! Seriously impressive. There are a lot of Leica T/TL/CL owners awaiting those three lenses with open wallets. Leica will no doubt be currently finding ways to stop them being compatible
-
Have an out take from your 10 minute custom test shoot in 2:1 with a bit more of a mute palette then Some blended diffusion to tone the sharpness down a bit as well.
-
Or less exposure if you buy the NDs as well Are they going to do a version for the original Mavic Pro as well, as I get the feeling that sales of the newer version may have slowed a lot since more restrictions have come into place about where you can fly drones so the original would be a bigger market? Not that it looks like they're having problems selling this one !
-
If Leica hadn't have totally fucked everyone over by not supporting the MC21 I could have answered that question as it was on my list to get a cheap used SA mount one !
-
Its a different structure with the S1R but along similar lines and yes the point I was (badly) making was that there is possibly more than one upgrade in this firmware that may become available later. Of course, the additional loaders and post boot pointers could equally be to activate the bricking of the camera routine when people have attempted to hack dodgy serial numbers in to it
