Right, I'm back with the results. The bad news is that in a photo aspect ratio its, erm, quite noticeable The good news (aside from the fact it is sharp) is that in 2.35:1 you can get away with the worst of it if you go for a centre crop And when you aren't shooting white(ish) walls, it makes reasonably OK pictures.

Nah, I'm just an infinite number of monkeys with an infinite number of 35mm lenses. Law of averages says that I'll eventually get something in focus and composed properly. Thanks to the wonders of the MC21 SA>L adapter and some electrical tape over the contacts I can actually try that for you on the SL just to see how much it covers. Be right back

I have the 30mm 1.4 APS-C ART version for the Sigma SD Quattro, which these ones from a few months ago were taken on. I use it for product shots and it is a good all rounder. I'm definitely going to have to do a merry go round shot when I go back to the UK as the place I'm going pretty much has an identical one. If I take the SL then I can use the F mount Sigma 35mm f1.4 ART on it so that we can have a true comparison !

I don't have an S1 but out of curiosity I downloaded the v1.2 and v1.1 bin files. I wasn't particularly surprised that they would be different sizes but hadn't expected the v1.2 file to be 4.5x bigger than v1.1.... Upon, erm, closer inspection, v1.2 contains multiple loaders and post boot references which might suggest that there is more to come in terms of additional functionality via additional license fees. Let the RAW speculation commence

I've never used the Canon but I do have an F mount version of the Sigma 35mm f1.4 ART that in an EF mount might give you enough saving to help build a bigger set of Nikkors. There are quite a lot of comparisons around but I think this one is pretty interesting from a long time user of the Canon. https://johncarnessali.com/camera-lens-tests/sigma-35mm-1-4-art-lens/6141

I had a quick look at the group for it and once I'd got past the 28294 B&W images one contributor has submitted of his girlfriend I've got to say this particular image might have had me looking on eBay if I didn't already own enough 35mm lenses to start my own travelling exhibition.

I imagine Sigma were not impressed in the slightest at the stunt Leica pulled with the MC21. I know I wasn't! Its a fine balance as well with this stuff because the MC21 was very important as people are naturally cautious about buying into a camera range with a new (to them at least) mount and good EF compatibility would have been a boost, particularly with the paucity of affordable native L mount lenses at launch. With this new upgrade and native Sigma L mount lenses shortly to become available, the S cameras will get a big boost but still can't help thinking the staggered timing of these releases to get these ducks in a row has been an avoidable hindrance in getting them established.

I suspect its more political than technical. With the MC11 they only had to satisfy themselves whereas with the MC21 they have to satisfy their other two partners in the L alliance, both of whom want to sell their own lenses. Leica threw their toys out of the pram completely and won't entertain the MC21 being on their cameras at all and I would suspect the compromise with Panasonic is that Sigma favour compatibility with the SA mount version of it rather than the EF version. Sigma always maintained that the MC11 would only work with their own EF lenses rather than Canon or other manufacturers yet we all know that to be quite a conservative stance! In the case of the MC21 perhaps that stipulation has to be seen to be more literal. When Sigma release the L mount versions of the SD Quattros it will be interesting to see how much better the compatibility of the MC21s are on those.

Nice. It will be North West coast and is very similar to your edge of shore shots actually. It will likely be on the mystery camera as I will be in desperate need to pad out my entry! It varies so its best doing an "x vs y" google search for the specific lenses. In general, a lot of them do share the same optics but the further complication is the vintage of them and the variance that can bring in terms of the life they've led. The only sure way I suppose is to buy mint versions of both, test them and sell the loser!
-
It was around £200 so yeah you got quite the bargain there! Nice shot. I do like an old school boardwalk. I might shoot a UK one when I go back in a few weeks for comparison! Could be a bluff though and the "mystery" element is how on earth I made a RED look that cheap!

I was in a used gear shop in Tokyo and they had a 35mm f2, a 50mm f2 and an 85mm f2 at really decent prices and I was thinking "right, I'm going to have an f2 prime set then"....and then I saw the price of the 28mm and 135mm and the moment passed I wouldn't rule out me being able to make it sing like Britney without Autotune by the way.

Its unfortunate that it produces more noise than an AC/DC gig.

Absolutely not. As I said in the very first post in this thread, I never thought that RED were producing their own media so I'm surprised this has taken this long to be laid bare in this way. My point is that it is the evidence from those posts on the other forum of the attempted procurement of resources to extract and duplicate the firmware from the drive that will have a potential impact on the case Jinnitech have brought against RED. As I said earlier, I am watching this whole thing with interest because I don't think this is going to stop with the MiniMags and the spotlight will be turned in the same way onto the original 1.8 Mags. My sense of indignation will then be turned up from a solid 8 to a hard 11 when it involves something that I have personally been ripped of for and with any luck it will then move on to the RedDrives for the RED ONE as I can climb on that particular bandwagon as well.
-
I would suspect it could impact some aspects of the suit by Jinnitech against RED that include accusations from RED of IP theft if it is proven that those posts requesting help in extractinf and duplicating firmware were actually from Jinnitech and were related to the MiniMags. But yes, the other stuff about capacity, country of origin, pricing etc will still stand though. I shall go and have a nose at the new thread
-
Yeah, that is in the Reduser thread that I linked to earlier. It might changed the story considerably.

Just pointing out that the instructions were as an illustration for the, erm, low cost "tribute" edition of the Hydrophobia that Kye has got rather than recommending the using the actual class A drug containing bag pictured
-
The upside of the Lexar is the availability as the RED ones are rarer but price wise they are inline as the Lexar is half the price for half the capacity at usual used prices. But, yeah, 4 minutes I don't know why they wouldn't open it up to 3rd party cards and ditto letting people put SSDs in the original external drives. So many people upgraded into the DSMC programme that they would/have been still making money off the newer media types.

Looking through the post, the story seems to have moved on as someone has unearthed a possibly related thread on a hard drive forum from three years ago with some requesting information regarding how to dump firmware from drives and clone it onto another one.... http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?177083-Jinnitech-back-at-it-again/page12

Nikon Z6 features 4K N-LOG, 10bit HDMI output and 120fps 1080p

Although not as cheap as that price, there are a lot of places in Switzerland that offer it at a healthy discount over the UK price for example. I've bought a few Nikon cameras in Switzerland over the years as whilst its much of a muchness for other brands it has always been a lot cheaper for Nikon gear. Have a look at these other stores and see if they will ship it. https://www.toppreise.ch/price-comparison/Digital-cameras/NIKON-Z6-Kit-Z-24-70mm-F-4-0-FTZ-Lens-Adapter-VOA020K003-p536812
