  1. Well its the 50th anniversary next month of Hasselblad's most famous field trip so it would be nice to see them tie it in to returning to that iconic form factor. I'm surprised they haven't actually timed this launch date with that launch date to exploit the link but maybe the imminent arrival of the Fuji has forced their hand. Mind you, the last time they tried to tip their hat to the space programme they made a right shambles of it with the Lunar. Although the design does look somewhat reminiscent of a more recent popular camera....

Yeah, if you put "camera rain cover" into aliexpress you'll find the same ones that ship to Australia. Half the price as well.
  3. Oddly enough, I saw this for sale the other day and thought of you ! Go on , you know you want to https://www.mpb.com/en-uk/used-equipment/used-photo-and-video/used-video-cameras/aja-cion-4k-production-camera/sku-841098/

I used the ThinkTank Hydrophobia range which are great but have a price tag to match, although when you factor in the cost of the cameras and lens combos they were protecting they are a bargain You can get generic versions that will do the job for you for a lot less money and this one has the advantage of having a two stage lens portion to accommodate different lens lengths https://www.amazon.co.uk/2-Stage-Camera-Protector-Foldable-Cameras/dp/B01HRGPDKQ
  5. The conversation I had with with someone from JVC regarding the EVF on the LS300 is that they were offered a different option during the development but felt it would have blown the price beyond what they thought was reasonable. So they are very aware of that shortcoming (though I would say when you add a Ninja V to the LS300 it takes away all that and adds 4K60p so is the best £500 you can spend on it!) so I expect it to be a given that it is addressed in the new one. The price is an interesting thing in that while the LS300 is a great price now (particularly used) it has had a few price cuts in its life cycle so I'd be surprised to see them get a lot of some of the features they're asking questions about into the sort of launch price that might be anticipated. When all is said and done, JVC are a very much a traditional broadcast company with the sort of prices that match rather than an aggressive new player. Having said that, I wouldn't have expected them to come up with a product like the LS300 in the first place so you never know !
  6. Looking at the twitter handle in the video description, I'm a bit confused about the "found" bit of your post ? In the intervening four years since he posed the question he might well have.
  7. Its USB and works with both PC and Mac. There is a helper application linked in the Amazon product page for both to enable the key re-mapping. The reference to an app was in regards to using it with the iOS editing app LumaFusion which I have developed a bluetooth interface for.
  8. You really think I'd have wasted £34 on something that I didn't have a half baked idea for incorporating a processor, some epoxy and an electric blue case? It is now a new option that I've incorporated for this to enable it to be used as a custom keyboard in LumaFusion
  9. I think its actually pretty smart. More to the point, if they release a version of the base unit of this thing for the Osmo Pocket then it would actually be a pretty intriguing product with the amount of customisation available through the programming interface. With the combination of repeatable movement and articulation that it could achieve with just some of that blue tape and a few of the markers It could be the motion controller for the rest of us. For low budget sports productions it would be a revolution in making high speed remote tracking shots available at that sort of price.
  10. Slightly related as an alternative/supplement are programmable keypads so you can create your own surface. It has 23 programmable keys (ignore the keycaps as you also get a set of blanks) and these can be set to single keys or multi stroke macros. You can also setup four layers to increase the flexibility and it is very reasonably priced at £34, particularly when compared to something like the X-Keys products. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mechanical-Keyboard-Koolertron-Programmable-Portable-23keys-Blue-Switches-Blue-Backlit/dp/B07SFFHQCJ
  11. Considering who it was he was trying to emulate with his look at me antics, I'd have titled it "Suitcasey Righttwat" if I had been fast enough to film it.
  12. Fire away, I've just seen a grown man riding a skateboard through an airport while pulling his suitcase fall off it and take out another grown man on a skateboard filming him so nothing is going to impact my bliss now.

  16. Its a pity it doesn't do picture profile versions as well as RAW but the Dpreview test scene shows even in RAW there will be work https://***URL removed***/reviews/image-comparison?attr18=daylight&attr13_0=sony_a7sii&attr13_1=fujifilm_xt3&attr13_2=apple_iphonex&attr13_3=apple_iphonex&attr15_0=jpeg&attr15_1=jpeg&attr15_2=jpeg&attr15_3=jpeg&attr16_0=100&attr16_1=160&attr16_2=32&attr16_3=32&normalization=full&widget=1&x=-0.0523171817243824&y=0.6944350801054903
  17. What are they switching it with? Blackmagic ATEMs have a pretty comprehensive live colour corrector built in. A neutral standard colour profile and manual white balance off a card as a starting point obviously !
  18. I just hope he didn't buy it from the original starter of this thread.
  19. One thing that I forgot to mention is that with the optional BTA-1 adpater (£30) you are able to control the H3-VR over bluetooth with an app that also includes metering. With the v2.0 software, the H3-VR can also use the adpater to pick up wireless timecode from an UltraSync BLUE unit and embed it into the recorded files for easier post-sync. I haven't been able to try this because the BTA-1 is proving a bit elusive to buy but I'll report back when I find one !
  20. If you don't mind a bit of pay to play then you can sign up for an Apple developer account ($99) and download it straight away. Works out about $20 a month to not have to wait !
  21. What a ridiculous situation. Who thought that was a good idea? I'd be tempted to look to see if anyone has done a 3D printed version of their own as it would be an easy edit to remove a suitably sized opening and then have it printed by someone you know who has a 3D printer or send it off to a commercial bureau to have done. This one for example could be a starting point https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3659415 And remember to have it printed in electric blue.
  22. Ah yes, I remember that was one of the threads I was pimping it in !
  23. Its a live version of Super Mario Kart that you can do there. Braver than I am riding those things round there ! Aww shucks, thank you. Although....hang on...Only ONE of your favourites ?!?!? I'm hurt now
  24. First of all, this is not some big comprehensive review but just a brief look and some samples that I took on the first day that I took it out. OK, with that disclaimer out of the way, lets have a look at it. The H3-VR is an integrated ambisonic microphone array and recorder and you can find the full product information here https://www.zoom-na.com/products/field-video-recording/field-recording/zoom-h3-vr-handy-recorder Basically, what it allows you to do is record the output from its 4 microphones either as a stereo binaural track or as a 4 channel ambisonics B format which you can then manipulate in post to effectively simulate changing the mic position after the fact. If you want a bit of a primer on ambisonics then this link will sort you out https://www.waves.com/ambisonics-explained-guide-for-sound-engineers I've mentioned the H3-VR a few times in responses in various threads about field recording, particularly with regard to ambient tracks, so on my last trip I decided that it was time to put my money where my mouth was and actually buy one. Well, with the proviso that I found one cheap enough, which I did, so here we are. First impressions are that it is much smaller than I had expected which is no bad thing and very, very light so its not going to be a problem to mount it on a camera. Here it is on the very diminutive OG Pocket Cinema Camera which I was using for testing it with. Incidentally, the foam shield is included in the box but I'd budget for a deadcat if you are using it outdoors and I'd probably also caution against mounting like it is here as it is very prone to handling noise even as transference from operating the camera controls. It is very straightforward to use as it has a good menu system and you can record in an array of stereo and B format modes and it also has a headphone monitor which you can select to be stereo or binaural. This option is also available on the line out so for the examples further down they are sent to the camera as a binaural mix but still recorded in B format in the recorder for later manipulation if necessary. To make post sync easy, you have the option for it to send a tone burst to the camera at the start of each recording and the H3-VR also has an inbuilt gyro so that it knows which way is up as it where in terms of where the microphones were during the recording. This function is also used for shooting 360 videos as it allows the unit to be connected upside down under a 360 camera to keep it out of shot and also enables you to use it in end-fire mode. Specs wise, it can record in various formats up to and including 24bit/96Khz so you can have a decent amount of headroom for your recordings but there is also a limiter and lo cut filters to give you a bit more security. My interest in this system is partly for VR but primarily for general ambience recording to create a more immersive soundscape with the ability to do some manipulation of the sound targeting in post production. Its worth bearing in mind that until very, very recently, having a B format microphone array and recording setup (let alone one that can fit in a large pocket and runs off two AA batteries) was a very specialist niche with a price tag to match so you'll have to manage your expectations about matching something like that but I've got to say that for me its going to be a very useful little item to supplement rather than replace other sound recording gear I've got. For these examples, I chose two different scenarios (although they are only about 15 minutes walk away from each other in Tokyo!) to illustrate its use in capturing soundscapes with different densities and degrees of subtlety. The audio on these is from the line out of the H3VR set to binaural stereo straight into the OG Pocket Cinema Camera whilst the H3-VR was recording them internally in the 4 channel B Format (Ambix in this case). Make sure you put some decent headphones on to listen and you should be able to pick up some degree of height and rear positioning of sounds within the environment and as objects move around it. If you want to experiment with manipulating the B format files, Zoom have a standalone player that enables you to do this This is available free from https://www.zoom-na.com/products/field-video-recording/field-recording/zoom-h3-vr-handy-recorder#downloads And I have put the original B format files from the H3VR from the videos above for you to download and use with it here https://mega.nz/#!RqYQXSpB!Ydluy4G-ouMIEJbJyWWTAzcG4DIUU47G2GNKhMyVpJM OK, thats it for now, as this is very much just an initial look at it and I'll return to flesh it out with more information as I use it a bit more but hope some of you can find some use in it.
