Even those are no spring chickens either as the Soundfield microphones were first commercially available over forty years ago now. The expiration of the patents for the Soundfield and there being more of a market for the content through surround formats and latterly VR has brought them more to the fore in recent years. Funnily enough, Zoom themselves do a combined ambisonic mic and recorder called the H3-VR which gets zero coverage but is actually a very capable little tool for anyone that wants to try the format.

NAB 2019 predictions and major talking points - BMPCC 4K Pro anyone?!

I think the only golden insurance rule is to make sure you only buy EF lenses as they can fit on everything ! -

There is 1.25mm more distance to play with when you are going from EF to E versus EF to MFT. I've no idea how much they have going on internally (though I can have a decent guess) but it could be possible. In the meantime, if you have a camera that can be easily adapted to M mount like Sony E or Leica/Panasonic L and have some Leica screw mount lenses then you can already enjoy some turret fun if you can pick up a Leica ORLOF. Its somewhat rare so a bit on the pricey side though... -
Of course if you are an enterprising baker and want to stretch their "Need a license to sell food but not to sell shoes" rules then you could always make these.

The Uray one is very easy to integrate as you just need to use a streaming component as it does all the heavy lifting for you with serving the streams in common formats. I haven't actually asked them about the SDK but I think I might as I've got a use for it if there is anything worthwhile in there regarding reducing latency. I think the CineEye might be worth a punt though to sniff what they are up to with their protocol to get it down to those latencies. I suspect its the same way as Panasonic/Sony do it from their cameras so will be adoptable to be used in a different app. -

I have got my eye on that. There is this one which I have that does the same thing and is a bit cheaper but the latency is the issue. I see that 60 ms is quoted for the CineEye, which is a very respectable result if they can make that happen. -
I had completely forgotten about that ! Good plot twist if it is. https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/2/13/17007986/red-foxconn-potential-8k-camera-partnership

I had no idea thats what you call the EOS200D over there so I saw the thread title and thought I must have had a pretty long nap to have missed out on Leica announcing a third SL when most of us are still waiting to see the second one !
-
In which case, I withdraw all of my carefully considered advocacy of it and declare it to be an overpriced toy for rich people to shoot videos of their cats purely to have something/anything to show on their equally overpriced 8K televisions

I was taking using lenses with OIS as a given to be honest. I actually thought I'd put that in but my old brain is leaking like a sieve these days! I also think the market I'm talking about is also less sensitive to sticking to 180 degree shutter rules when you look at their output where its clear that many of them are shooting in aperture priority without ND, not to mention the abundance of slooooow mooooooo in their B roll . Where this camera scores in that latter regard is that for many, though not all I have to stress, the slow mo B roll is very often a crutch to enable them to spread the coverage they shoot a bit thinner whereas I think re-framing, particularly the dynamic type, offers more interesting alternatives to that approach. Just to be clear and go back to what I said a few posts ago (or maybe even in the other thread !) about this camera, I think its strength lies in what I would loosely class as 'video' work rather than the even looser term 'cinematic'. Its very much in the vein of the shoot first frame later scenario that the 360 cameras have given us a glimpse of but just that this does it with fewer compromises that are inherent in those cameras in terms of image quality and fisheye lenses ! I think that's what will make it a very viable option for people who have seen that potential with the 360 cameras but want more control over what's going into the camera. Of course, I'm saying this without knowing the price so if its over £3K then all bets are off ! Realistically, it should actually be half that price considering who is behind it but when Panasonic are still getting away with marginal re-hashes like the G91 for £1K then I suspect it will closer to £3K than £2K.

As an FYI for anyone who hasn't seen the Mevo. It is let down really by having too wide a lens (and small sensor) so with a 4K capture resolution you are pushing it a bit on punch ins but it is not difficult to imagine how those issues will be mitigated with the Sharp camera
-
Absolutely. 1080p will be the target format for YouTube for a good while yet and with the stabilisation and re-framing possibilities, this camera has the potential to be the best camera for a sizeable number vloggers. The faux slider move function on Panasonic 4K cameras is pretty decent as is the faux multicam of the MEVO camera and both of those features will be greatly enhanced by the extra resolution of 8K. The camera also has decent audio options and of course that huge articulating screen. For someone working on their own who needs to shoot content fast with the ability to add production value in post, this camera has the potential to be an absolute powerhouse. Its interesting to see a lot of the reactions to this camera as dismissing it as a bit of novelty if not a flat out joke and I'm sure a lot of that is related to it coming from a manufacturer that is not one of the usual suspects. I think if people look beyond that, which they should because Sharp have not only been around the block a few times but are owned by Foxconn, and consider the possibilities that it offers then they might well find that this has the potential to be a far more signficant product than it is being given credit for.
-
Having seen how effective the stablisation is on an Insta360 One X when producing flat content from overcapture, I don't have any concerns really about this camera, or any 8K camera for that matter, not having IBIS. Unless you are delivering in 8K then it gives you plenty of latitude for post capture software stabilisation. With some of the side effects I've seen from IBIS, which are then baked in to the footage of course, and the advances in software stabilisation its arguably a better approcach anyway.

Well it wasn't adding ProRes, which is a bit of a downer. They have added an absolute ton of new features which are taking it in the direction of being an even more full blown NLE. Ironic that they are adding complexity when Resolve is going the other way. I absolutely love LumaFusion but the ProRes thing (on ingest, I don't need it for export) is beginning to bite and I'm curious to know whether the new Cut page of Resolve with a SurfacePro might now be a better route. -
I actually think the battery grip is a decent option to have to keep everything integrated as it were. Adding a bit of weight to the body when you're using adapted FF lenses on it won't be unwelcome from a balance point of view either. Not quite sure how the price can be not far off double a similar Canon one for the same batteries though (which also includes nav/control buttons) let alone against the price of the 3rd party ones. Throws a bit of a spanner (or hacksaw) in the works if you've bought a cage though.
-
Yep, $395 was pretty much in the ballpark of where I thought it was going to be. I'm hoping that showing it this early was a bit of a kite flying exercise to gauge demand and test that price and it might come down. There is an argument for it being more compact, or a more compact version of it at least as well. I absolutely agree and I am of course all about physical hardware controllers wherever possible. In my view, I actually think that far from being a specialised tool it should actually be a mainstream one but its going to have to be a lot cheaper than that. The controller will, I would surmise, be a proprietary protocol like their other panels so 3rd party keyboard/jog wheel solutions will get close but not be able to have direct access to all of the functions, particularly the simultaneous two function controls as demonstrated?
-
Hang on....that keyboard is going to be $995. I suppose if you consider that the software is free then that means its probably only about $495 overpriced !
-
The new editing keyboard integration with that fast edit page is a bit of a game changer for fast turnaround for Resolve. Really impressive. The object removal looked very effective as well.
-
Watching the BM presentation video, the irony of this new simplified fast edit page is how clunky he is making it look. To his credit, he did preface it with "I'm not a demo guy" but he really should have got someone who is a demo guy to show it. Its actually a very good addition to Resolve though.

Having no menu is living the dream as far as I'm concerned !

If you're any older than me then you must have been shooting these gigs on plate film

It is already implemented in our 3C app. I was surprised when the last Metabones update activated control capability that it works as well as it does. Its better than with a lot of the native MFT lenses actually.

I would just like to wish this thread a very happy 1st birthday.

If I was going to have a combined professional photography and footwear vending operation then I would definitely call it Hot Shoe.
