I'm hoping that a small company pops-up that takes the internals of stock cameras and re-houses them with custom integrated add ons to make 'new' products. There is definitely the scope for someone to take the guts of Pocket 4K for example and create something in a different but still compact form factor that sits in that £3-3.5K area that addresses what people are asking for with regard to internal electronic ND, better audio interface, power, an EVF etc The volume may not be there for manufacturers to make something like that but there may well be enough demand for a small company to make a living from it.

If you have to do something custom and are concerned about doing the soldering (especially when trying to work out the connections) then these solderless terminal connectors are useful You would then buy a 4 pole to 4 pole 2.5mm cable, cut the cable in half, strip the wires and put them into the terminals to make the connections. https://www.amazon.co.uk/kwmobile-2-5mm-Balun-Converter-Adapter-Black/dp/B07NDGYSGB/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1550527647&sr=8-3&keywords=2.5mm+balun+converter As you get two terminal adapters in the pack and you've cut your 4 pole cable in half you will then be able to make up 2 of the correct cables. Once you've established what the connections are then you can have someone make up something more permanent. Or just gaffa tape the hell out of the lashed up ones

In a funny way, as we are coming up to the first anniversary of its announcement, it would be more understandable if they hadn't shipped any yet or had only just started shipping. I agree that it seems unusual that they actually started to get them out of the door not far off on schedule but are still not readily available almost six months later. Yeah, I think they could do something that plugs into the side in one go along the lines of this one for the OG Pocket to take the HDMI,USBC and Shutter release down in a straight line into an under camera grip (as opposed to breakouts like this) which has all of the clever stuff in.

Looking at the page for the run/stop cables for the Nucleus Nano ( https://tilta.com/shop/nucleus-nano-run-stop-cables/ ) the controller end (on the right in this picture) is a 4 pole jack With the Fuji release cable, it is a 3 pole You might get lucky by using a 2.5mm 3 pole to 3 pole cable from the camera and putting a 4 pole adapter on the end into the controller. Otherwise it will be a case of rolling your own by measuring what is coming off each pole when you do the run/stop from the controller and re-wiring the 3 pole connector going into the camera to match what the Fuji is expecting. The pinout for the Fuji is the same as for Canon, which you will find here http://www.doc-diy.net/photo/remote_pinout/index.php An alternative would be to buy the Panasonic version and make an adapter and, again, the pinout for the Panasonic is at the same link.

Its not a completely EXIF based search engine for Flickr but it works quite well in terms of suggestive searching along with additional selection of focal length, aperture and shutter speed. Here, for example, I've searched for indoor Takumar shots taken at f2 http://www.shutterdial.com/#/search?s=takumar indoor&a=5 So you can browse the images then click on them to go through to it on Flickr to see the full EXIF.

A quick rough output of the app doing zoom/focus control of the cheap and less than stellar and not in any way par focal Panasonic 14-42mm lens on a Pocket 4K. Video shows servo zoom, snap focus between two memory points and transition between two memory points.

It is definitely useful to approach it that way if the goal is to provide it as a test for people looking to evaluate those particular lenses. You could split hairs and say that even in RAW the camera will still be in play in terms of influence but every single lens test/example on this thread is subject to that (and worse because a majority are not shot in RAW) so you'll still be ahead of the game there! More broadly though, I had interpreted, incorrectly I think, that what you were wanting to do was more in pursuit of how those lenses worked for your own personal taste/needs hence why I thought it would be appropriate to run a stepped variable parameter test under the colour profile(s) you would be using on your GH5 to give it a more representative context. Unless you've found a way to shoot RAW video on it That approach would also have had value if you were trying to create a cohesive matching set from a disparate bunch of lenses so, for example, you might find that you prefer overall performance of the Minolta 135mm over the Takumar 135mm but that it lacks a touch of contrast that would closer align it to the other Takumar focal lenses but with +1 contrast in the profile it can bring it into line etc etc You may well find some magic combinations that way. Or at least rule out the shit ones !

The short answer is 'with a hell of a lot of graft' BM produce a camera control spec document so you have the foundation to work from with a couple of example protocol packets but its a long slog creating all of the tables and sitting a control mechanism on top of them that makes sense as a user interface and then dealing with changes made by the user on the camera itself and and and and... That's why I'm going to be charging £4943 per copy for it

My narrative? I'm looking at it from the perspective of describing what has actually happened in the process of trying to prepare for that and the well documented reasons for it, so it is commentary rather than narrative. Its not an interpretation though. The default position in law is that the UK will exit the EU on 29th March so it is definitely going to happen. Any arrangement to agree a trade deal with the EU that kicks in on the 30th of March is incidental to that so the result of the referendum will be actioned irrespective of who is in charge. May cannot get her deal through Parliament because she can't persuade her own party to support it. She lost that vote by the biggest margin ever seen in Parliament due to large blocks of her own party not backing it and then promptly won a vote of no confidence in the government the next day because those self same people voted to back her. Putting party before country has never been more evident than that. Considering that what 'sort' of Brexit was originally voted for in the referendum can't be agreed upon by those who wanted it and has seen a constant shifting of goalposts by those who agitated and campaigned for it, there is scant evidence that the most rabid Leavers would have fared any differently. The appetite for the two lead Tories of the Leave campaign, Boris Johnson and Michael Gove, to actually have any sort of leading role in delivering it once they won speaks volumes for what a poisoned chalice it is. There is also a shocking degree of inherent incompetence that has infested our politicians over the past 20 years that means the whole process has been pretty agnostic to the Leave/Remain leanings of those charged with implementing it. I'm not sure how much quality you would be losing with the element in that adapter but I suppose its worth a go for that price. If it doesn't work out, the path would probably be to do the Leitax F mount conversion for them (its reversible) but if you have a few lenses then at €64 per lens the price might begin to stack up. That's my 35-70mm in the picture so that one definitely works The other ones I have are 28mm f2.8 50mm f1.7 85mm f1.4 135mm f2.8 28-85mm f3.3-f4 I've got no problems with any of them on the Speed Booster Ultra 0.71x or the Aputure DEC Lens Regain. I'm wondering whether there may be issues with other types of focal reducer ?

My suggestion would be to it like the World Cup. Pair the vintage lenses together by focal length (as best as you can) and play them off against each other so you get the best of the vintage stuff. Then play the winners of those matches off against the modern versions. You haven't got like for like with the modern ones but at least you'll be pitching what you have deemed to be the best of the best of the vintage ones to compare them to. If you have an Android device, then I've written a couple of automated stepper apps for Panasonic cameras that might potentially be of use to you for this sort of testing. There is a basic bracket one but also a more elaborate one which will cycle through selectable parameter permutations such as saturation, contrast etc which can be of use in looking at different responses as well. With both apps, it automates the stepping of the parameter and taking the shot for you so you can just set up the lens, press go and it will take care of the rest so you will have sets of exact like for like shots for each lens. You will also get a better context of what lens works best with your particular camera's sensor.

I have a C/Y to EF adapter so I can use my 35-70 (and other Contax lenses obviously!) via a speed booster on MFT to help things along speed wise.

It frustrating really because the cost of making an E-ND is actually quite low. Aputure do a version of their DEC controller of course from EF to MFT or E but there is no pass through for AF which is not as much of an issue for the Pocket 4K as it doesn't do it for any adapted lens anyway but is for other MFT cameras not to mention the Sony ones. There is certainly the space available within an EF to M adapter or a Sigma MC11 EF to E adapter to house one and I'm tempted to pick up a really cheap EF to E adapter to modify and put my own in. When you want a focal reducer involved though then there is just no way to fit one in which brings us back to the front mounted option. You may remember this thread from last year And, well, from today's "Tales From The Lashed Together Protoype Lab" I offer you this that suggests the idea may have been dormant but not forgotten

This is the user manual from a few months ago.
