  1. 2. Use a soldering iron and some wire somewhere within the area shown in red to attach a 3.5mm jack socket to the hole made in step 1. If you choose the wrong place in step 2 then take the item in the blue circle and drag it vigorously across the underneath of the item in the green circle.
  2. I was about to say I'd been to see a Nigel Kennedy performance as well, until I saw the word "bottles" at the end there.
  3. A lot of it is laughably blatant. Whatever happened to subtly and subliminally pushing your brand at people? Anyway, I'm just going to have this cup of coffee and watch this develop with a keen interest.
  4. Its OK, its a double bluff to get him to stop at the Leica X Vario. Oh balls, I've done it again.
  5. My ultimate aim here is to keep laddering him up to the point where has no alternative but to get the new Zeiss ZX1 so we can all get a free review
  6. Never mind the limitations, feel the liberty ! It got you challenged and engaged on making something with what it had rather than feeling blocked by something it didn't have. Based on that approach but adding another layer of quality and a bit more flexibility into the mix without straying too far from the small and simple, maybe a used LX100 might be something to consider for your trip? I'm seeing them for under £300 and that will drop further when the mark II hits the shops in a few weeks.
  7. The salient point was about adapting with AF though.
  8. Whoah..hang on a minute there... Letting shots breathe for more than 0.5 seconds, a faint whiff of a tripod and no drone shots?!!??! What a weirdo that filmmaker must be
  9. I can maybe see myself buying a Z6 down the line but no way am I going to re-buy any of my collection of F mount lenses in the new mount. I fell for that ruse with all my vinyl albums when CDs came out
  10. I think EF has definitely become the "safety" mount to have lenses in. It can be used on their existing mount of course but AF adapted to their own new mount (with ND as well), their M mount, Sony E, Fuji X , MFT and the existing and upcoming SL mount cameras. At least that means people can dip their toe into the water with EOS-R, X-T3, A7iii, GH5, Pocket 4K, Panasonic S1 etc without having to go all in on one system. It also means of course they can use the savings to buy 2 different cameras (X-T3 and Pocket 4K would be a good combo for example). That's not great news for Nikon
  11. Be careful, thats how people end up with a Leica Q
  12. A terrible choice of name though as Weeble definitely has a distinctly unstabilised connotation for anyone over a certain age.

Another day, another M mount. This time its the Voigtlander 15mm f4.5 VM III Super Wide Heliar again but on FF this time rather than APS-C
  14. If you're looking for something compact, versatile and with one eye on not being too far out of pocket if it gets stolen or breaks then...... You might want to consider a used DJI Osmo Plus. Its small, stabilised (obviously ), has 3 times optical zoom, can take a microphone and has a few tricks it can do that would be useful on a trip such as motion timelapse, subject tracking and also the instant 180 degree selfie mode. It also doesn't scream pro camera either. As a bonus, it actually that novelty factor about it that will more likely encourage people to engage with you out of curiosity to what it is than shy away like they would with a pro camera. The Osmo Plus gets a lot of hate for what it isn't and what it can't do but nowhere near enough credit for what it is and what it can do. For the sort of trip that you are talking about, it might actually be a very appropriate option. The bigger bonus is to pick up the M1 module which means you will be able to take the camera off the handle and replace it with the M1 to turn it into a fully fledged Osmo mobile for your iPhone. This gives you the option then of a bit more stealth and looking like a tourist if you want it without compromising the stabiliser aspect and, again, being able to take advantage of the motion time-lapse and subject tracking etc.
  15. It's funny you should say that.... I saw this in a shop at the weekend and you immediately came to mind ! It's a bit of a jack of all trades as its a monopod and also has three leg base but these are weighted so that its actually very stable as a tripod substitute. However, they also fold up not only for shorter storage but also act as a counter balance for its other trick which as you can see by the handle is to transform it into a steadicam. The monopod itself is carbon fibre which obviously makes it lighter in the bag but heavier on the wallet and there are a couple of versions of it for different camera loads. I think the price is a bit steep but this was in MediaMarkt which isn't exactly bargain world for a lot of things. I had a quick Google and the aluminium versions of the smaller one as well as different manufacturers of it are a lot cheaper online. Obviously, I couldn't try it out in the shop so have a scout on YouTube etc for reviews but it seems like it could be a useful product. Unless it's shit of course
  16. If you're looking for a cheap alternative to the Peli 1510 case, then these are actually pretty decent for a quarter of the price. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/329-US-PRO-Waterproof-Wheeled-Rolling-Travel-Equipment-Tool-Box-Hard-Case-Foam/162057203114?hash=item25bb5cadaa:g:APUAAOSwLs5XKx2R These padded dividers are really useful for transforming any rucksack into a camera bag and for general storage and faster packing of real camera bags. I have a load of them and organise gear into logical sets (speedlites with triggers in one pack, mics and recorders in another one etc etc) so I can pack bags quickly for different jobs. http://amzn.eu/d/0OlQsE5
  17. In this case I think any magic (such as it is) happens in the adapter though and happens before the camera so there shouldn't be any difference between the two bodies. But yeah, famous last words and all that EDIT>> This fella on DPReview has given us confirmation that at least one AI-S lens works !
  18. Everyone clearly jonesing for new camera announcements after the rush of the Photokina onslaught then? As in one of the best ever songs about feeding an addiction, what you are all definitely waiting for is your man ! * Obviously not the original Velvet Underground version but used this one as it features The Angry Photographer on guitar
  19. The Z7 does so the presumption as its a function of the adapter rather than the camera would be that the Z6 would too. Ken Rockwell has a handy guide here https://kenrockwell.com/nikon/mirrorless/lenses/ftz.htm

I think like a lot of gentlemen of a certain age, I have an attachment to 50mm as its what we all had as our standard lenses when we got our first SLRs and used them to shoot dinosaurs roaming in the local park. I'm sure Google has a way of generating EXIF from any image so when they tire of snooping on us electronically and invent a way of physically sifting through our cupboards and drawers undetected they'll scan all those negs and slides from latter part of the 20th century and we'll find that about 75% of pictures were taken on a 50mm. I never really bought into the 50mm being closest to what the eye sees - or at least concentrates on for want of a better expression - but its not totally far off. I suspect its probably even less so now though for people who have grown up looking at the world through a 28mm equivalent on their iPhones as they have developed a wider (yet simultaneously narrower ) viewpoint of what is standard. Anyway, a couple more from the 7Artisans 50mm f1.1 at narrower apertures to balance out the previous glowfest examples of shooting it wide open.

Speaking of daft 50mm lenses..... More M mount shenanigans, this time with the 7Artisans 50mm f1.1 Shot wide open on full frame, the depth of field is shallower than an ant's paddling pool.
  22. XLRs, variable ND, bringing out some key functionality onto switches to mimic camcorder ergonomics (switchable ISO and White Balance for example), a handgrip with thumbstick control of aperture, rec start and clear image zoom, power pack for longer run time and cooler running. And some other bits....... All contained in an outer case to make it look integrated. I will incorporate a special anti RS function which will shut the camera down if someone attempts to do a whip pan of a moving train.
  23. Can't believe you didn't give a mention to my Improvised Lens Device as one of the show highlights Incidentally, it did get pulled by airport security on the way out of Berlin yesterday !
