Yep, I think the other camera has re-defined the price of everything and the perspective of being able to buy 2 of them and still have some decent change versus the LS300 (as 'cheap' as it is in its own market) is a stark one. Aside from the obvious stuff like battery life, ND, Dual XLRs etc, the tricks it has with the VSM and the network stuff like streaming and FTP are perfect for what I use it for so that is enough differentiator for me to keep hold of it. Particularly for the used price that I picked it up for. That stuff can be replicated with the other camera by grafting (with epoxy obviously ) other stuff on to it obviously but maybe not as elegantly as it is with an all in solution. The other big differentiator of course is that its actually a fully working product and can produce images today rather than at some unknown point in the future

If we see these films popping up from other dealers in other countries then it would definitely point to an awareness raising angle. Currently its pointing to JVC UK having a warehouse full of them that they are offering to these 2 big dealers on sale or return I was surprised there wasn't anything at NAB so maybe there will be at IBC. Even if they launch something new, I still think there is going to be an LS300 bundle upcoming with the Ninja V for at or more likely quite a bit under £3K. That addresses its biggest failing which is the atrocious monitoring, gives 4K60p and who knows maybe they can get ProResRAW going on it as well. Fuji get a lot of praise for adding chunks of new functionality with their firmware upgrades but JVC have been similarly generous with the LS300 over its lifespan so you never know.

Closest I've got is this, the original SLR Magic 35mm f1.7 I've just put it on the camera and, yes, it looks suitably silly Will that suffice ?
-
I've taken full advantage of its very flexible mount and had all sorts of lenses on it! Angenieux B4 ENG Lens with 2x doubler (which the onboard prime zoom can double again), RED PRO PL zoom and primes, Nikons, Canons, Contax Zeiss, M42 Zeiss and Meyer Optik, Leica R and the most recent one is the Mamiya 645 Medium Format 35mm. Oh and native m43 as well obviously! The only bugbear is having to dismantle the feet off the Canon and Nikon speed boosters as they won't mount as the ND wheel protrudes ahead of the mount. I'll do you a few frames of JLOG tomorrow if I get a chance so you can have a look. There is a freely available LUT from JVC that you can download as a starting point. There is also a Leeming LUT for it but obviously thats a paid option. Pick a lens if you want to kill 2 birds with one stone.

I'm not sure anyone envisaged that it would get 4K60p when it was released so you never know. As I say, its just very unusual that all of a sudden out of nowhere these 2 dealers are taking it seriously enough to start making videos about it. Actually, its not just unusual, its downright weird.
-
Quite weird why thats now another big UK dealer like ProAv making a new promo films for it. I definitely think something is afoot with bundling the LS300 with the Atomos V for a bargain price.

Yes, slave modules are able to be incorporated.

Thats exactly what I'm talking about. The smartphone will become the monitor (via wifi) to the camera and my controller will pass its controls to the smartphone which will relay them via the wifi link to the camera. So it will be kind of like the Panasonic app but with hardware controls. Yes, it will boot to the last one used or you can hold down a key at boot to select a different control type. Well, lets not count our chickens just yet There is a control there but the extent of its effect remains to be seen when I get the camera. There are a couple of hoops to jump through yet but if it works as well on the Sony and BM cameras as it does on the Panasonics then it might be a decent little tool. Yes, with a bit of 3D printing that would actually be relatively easy to put together. Yes, its already built in to be able to use it. I'm just mapping some logical pattern to the controls. Probably navigate with the D pad and value up and down with the A and B controls. Yes, the controller has that integrated now. You can switch through profiles and edit each parameter off a dedicated key. The goal is to do the same for Sony and BM but I'll have to look into each of their APIs to see how granular the controls are.
-
Theoretically, any of them which can be controlled over wifi. The only Sony camera I've got is the RX100M5 so I'm using that as the testbed so I'll be back to stalking camera shops to test other models! It should be able to control the same functions as the Lumix version but there is an issue surrounding focus control. Its not listed in their API but...well...you know....hacks and stuff Maybe. I've got a use for the MicroStudio (which is controlled in the same way) so if I get one then I'll obviously look to creating controls for it. I do have a mechanism for an option this where I make a monitor app that runs on Android that the controller talks to and passes the commands on to the camera. Well if you want to incorporate retro gaming technology into camera control then, of course, that is catered for as well ;)

It has an internal micro SD card slot actually which will be used for boot mode selection (i.e. Lumix,Sony or Blackmagic) and it would be easy to write a settings log to that for each recording instance. The Blackmagic protocol has a 2 value control for screen brightness (I'm going to take a wild guess that these are ON and OFF !) so, yeah, thats not an issue. Yes, it will be done in batches. It fits in a standard cellphone to thread mount adapter like this one (which is being used to attach it to the gimbal in the first post) and after that you can mount it to whatever you want. These are between £3 and £5 on eBay so there's no point me re-inventing the wheel and doing something myself. As its a modular product, there is actually a wrist watch variation I've done of it with just the screen. No, really. Yes, it will be reaching a wider audience once a more thorough presentation is ready.

I think its perfectly legitimate to do that as well but for some reason its really, really wound some of those people up ! I was being a bit loose with that word as in the UK racism law the definition of race also incorporates national origin. The correct term I should have used of course is dickheadism

Nice one. I'll try and deliver it before your Hydrogen arrives. <Relaxes and takes 2 years off>

I think so http://www.cinemartin.com

Thanks. I'll hold you to that ! Wait til you see the as yet unrevealed focus method. You'll need a lie down after that I think he's probably got a bit too much on his plate to be bothered about my little calculator ! I'm not quite sure what you need it to do regarding the screen, can you elaborate? I'm looking at various options at the moment but I suppose much of it depends on the implementation of the other protocols. My thinking now is to have it ready to go from the off with more than just Lumix control. Cheers mate And you might be interested to know that a Sony implementation of it will be coming sooner than I thought....

Not as yet but I suspect even on here we'd struggle to match the argument going on about it over at NewsShooter - with the designer no less - where there are accusations of plagiarism, lies and even outright racism with someone claiming because the designer is Spanish it will never get finished on time ! https://www.newsshooter.com/2018/05/09/cinemartin-fran-8k-camera/ Main bone of contention/accusation seems to be that some posters are convinced that Cinemartin are passing this camera off as their own https://www.ximea.com/en/products-news/pci-express-camera-cmv50000

Thanks. It has its own shiny new thread with more details on here

From the article : "A North-American company, producing special cameras for the movie and defence industry - Photo-Sonics, founded by Adolf Furer in 1924 - used many Nikkors with special converted mounts." Boy, that was a hell of an unfortunate name to have a few years later. Reminds me of this

Well its certainly almost driven me insane at times! I'm going to start porting it ahead of time based on their documents but it'll be a bit blind until I get hold of a unit but I would expect it to be done within a month of that. I will be looking at making it dual boot so you select on startup if its controlling a Panasonic or Pocket. I don't know at this point. It depends on how it is distributed. I would say it will be around €150 for a dual boot with the additional options for joystick and audio recorder sync start.

Thanks. I should probably call it the EPOX-I due to my unfounded reputation on here for wanting to glue things to cameras. I haven't really looked at the Sony stuff in any detail but both of those things are fairly trivial on Panasonic. They must be, as I know how to do them After a bit of lateral thinking I do have a way of simulating a proper app for Fuji by giving wireless video to an Android phone via some relatively cheap cobbling together and then using a wireless release to trigger the recording. However, they have thrown a massive spanner in the works for the XT2 with the weird HDMI behaviour when you record internal FLOG.
-
Thanks Thanks. I suppose thats where a Kickstarter thing could come in useful to raise the registration cost.
-
Cheers. I took a long break from it as I was too busy but the break worked to my advantage in the end as I re-thought it a bit to make it more universal so it can now be ported to BlackMagic next and probably to Sony after that as well.

Bizarrely enough, I have a use case for it exactly as they show it with their 14mm lens that means I might well buy it! Or two actually ! Basically, taking a fully fledged DSLR for the goal cam shots is a waste of camera, lens and packing most of the time. To get proper coverage you ideally need two (which hardly anyone does for obvious reasons) so a lot of the time its a bit of a lottery as to how successful the image is as you have to go very wide and crop in depending on which side the ball goes in the net etc. They are also a right royal pain in the arse to set up as you have lie down on the (often soaking wet) pitch to set the framing and then there is the issue of getting the images off them in any sort of timely manner as you aren't allowed to access the pitch until half and full time (hence the enormously long ethernet cables you can see which lead back to the main photo positions). All in all, they are a hassle and of course you are going to have to get lucky to get something different from everyone else but they are a necessary evil and I've tried numerous different strategies to ease the process (especially the framing issue without getting soaked) but its still a pain. So..... Looking at that module, it might be a bit of a godsend if its the right price. If the camera is say £200 then the package with their 14mm lens (which will give 28mm if its MFT) would be just over £500. So for £1000 (way less than the price of any lens you can see there!) you can cover both sides of the goal with something much, much smaller to carry round. With it connecting to a smartphone then the framing issue is sorted because you can do it standing up. As a smartphone is part of the deal then that means it would be eminently feasible to automatically ftp the shots wirelessly to the editing computer. The only missing link then would be the triggering but if there is one company that know a bit about triggering remotely then its YongNuo. If they built a triggering port in to it (which I'm guessing they could because it is likely to have a USB port) then it would cover every need that I would have for it. Unless it does like 1fps or something stupid obviously

The problem in the UK isn't caused by the real Police but by the private security companies. The Police (by and large) know the actual law about theses things and if they don't they can at least be reasoned with in regard to you asking them specifically about which laws you are breaking. The private security companies think they know the law and also, bizarrely enough, think they have the right to enforce them, both the real law and the ones they think should be law. The really stupid thing here - which should be blindingly obvious to both the real Police and the pretend ones - is that because of their overt paranoia about photographers then anyone who is genuinely up to no good will of course never be carrying a camera and a tripod because they run the risk of being pulled. One thing that you do have to be careful of is that, increasingly, what you think is public land in the UK actually isn't, often due to council's selling off areas for development to private companies. It might be a public space and have no deterrent to access but its not actually publicly owned so in that instance the private security companies are well within their rights to ask you to leave.

As someone less than politely pointed out on the other thread, I appear to have been a bit of a lazy arse in the almost 12 months since I tripped over and found the Cinelike d thing. You may recall it happened because I was researching making a hardware controller and after several iterations, here it finally is. And yes, it does look rather like a calculator doesn't it? The different iterations (including an Android app at one point!) have been in pursuit of making something small, standalone, self powered, fast connecting, push buttons and with an integrated screen at a lowish cost and, well, here we are. Here is the finished spec and features : Compatible with all Panasonic Lumix cameras that can be controlled by wifi Integrated USB rechargeable battery Full colour screen 20 keys with 3 bank switch keys giving 60 direct switch operations of functions Control of Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance, Colour Profile, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness and Noise Reduction. Automatic unlocking of Cinelike D and Cinelike V on GX80/85, LX10/15 and TZ10 Control of manual focus in fine and coarse steps Control of One Shot AF Control of Record Stop/Start Store and Recall 8 focus points 4 selectable transition speeds between focus points Store and Recall 8 setup presets (each consisting of Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed, White Balance, Colour Profile, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness and Noise Reduction) Presets are stored in non-volatile memory so are available in any session. Boot time to camera connection and control under 2 seconds. Wifi control range tested to 20m. Optional accessories : Interface module to support Nintendo Nunchuck controller for manual focus control (native lenses and adapted lenses with smart adapters) and zoom (integrated lens cameras and power zoom lenses only) Wireless interface module to sync remote record and stop on supported Tascam, Zoom and SoundDevices audio recorders. The controller fits a regular cheap cellphone to threaded adapter holder so as well as being used handheld it can be mounted to anything you have a need for with the right attachment so could be on a cage or a gimbal or whatever. I'm going to be doing some more testing of it in anger in the next couple of weeks and I'll put up a video of it in action then. So, I have been a bit less lazy than first imagined By the by, the controller has both wifi and bluetooth so it begs the question would anyone be interested in a version of it for the Pocket 4K ??
