Optical zoom? The remote control aspect from the phone gives it a PTZ capability that makes it very useful for numerous things (and an absolute BARGAIN compared to dedicated HD PTZ cameras) but, yeah, the sensor struggles beyond ISO800 so its no IQ monster. Having said that, my phone camera is utterly abysmal (and my cunning "Operation Hydrogen" ruse was an epic fail yesterday)so its a big step up for me!

Yes but make sure that the ones you look at have the HDMI input as some (as in those links) just connect directly to the pins of the Raspberry Pi. But if you want to get really fancy....... This is a 5.5 inch 1080p OLED panel complete with the interface to allow you to connect HDMI and to power it from USB. The screen is the same resolution but slightly bigger than say the SmallHD 501 and at 350 nits is not quite as bright but still at least 2x brighter than the camera LCDs. Now, obviously, you don't get the focus aids etc so its just the monitor but its a hell of a monitor for $99. Thats for a minimum order of 5 though. Group buy anyone???? https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/5-5-inch-OLED-display-with_60686118107.html?spm=a2700.7724838.2017115.147.472a41ecLpwASS

OK, I've just run a test. The one I have is 3000 mAH so its slightly higher capacity and it has 4 LED bars for showing its charge level. After 2 hours running the monitor, it is still showing 4 bars so I think you'll be fine with the one you've bought !

No, not mine. Its a teardown someone has done. I've got no experience with either camera so I wouldn't be able to give an informed opinion. However, if the NX-1 RAW thing that is in the other thread is possible on the NX-500 then it might become a whole lot more interesting. Yes, looks more than adequate space wise to fit the slim power bank in.
-
I like a story with a happy ending. Well, I trust it actually is a happy ending?
-
I suspect there might be but you'd have to get someone to take one apart and trace the internal mics. Again, I'd hazard a guess that where I've put the red star on this NX500 pic might be a place to start. I've found a similar credit card sized power bank in a drawer earlier so I'll pop it on tomorrow and give it a try. I just have the bare board so just gaffa tape it on the back.
-
And if I had to hazard a guess, then I suspect if you did the same trick with the ribbon cable I've marked here with a star on this GX80/85 motherboard picture then you'd have yourself a MIC input on those as well....
-
I knew I hadn't imagined this. It was an LX100 and he just soldered a mic input to the ribbon where the internal mics connected.
-
Mmmm....I wonder how it would have looked if he had used an ND filter and not shot at 1/1000th of a second? At least we know its probably very capable of doing some nice stills extraction when you shoot with that 8.6 degree shutter angle
-
Its intended for game capture from PS4 and XBOX etc but it can record anything with an HDMI output. It has the mic input so that gamers can add commentary as they are playing and it is embedded with the recorded video onto the USB stick. For vloggers this means that they could use it to capture video from their camera and get themselves the mic input that manufacturers don't want to give them. It was a slightly tongue in cheek suggestion but to be honest its viable in situations where you might want fast turnround and don't have the latitude to record external audio and post sync. And at fifty quid its cheaper than a camera upgrade !
-
No, I have no experience of it but, like the others in that sector, it'll be suitable for its target platform which is YouTube. Which of course is the same target platform as vloggers. With regard to mic inputs, someone cut open a Panasonic (either GX80 or LX100) and did it so its possible. I'd be curious to see a tear down of say a G80 next to a GX80 to see a comparison of where the mic input is routed...
-
Alway thought the Osmo would be an ideal vlogging camera, especially the Plus version as its wider angle and has the optical zoom. Smaller sensor but tons of features (including mic input obviously) and free orientation of the monitor. The double tap thing to rotate the camera from selfie to world view would be a boon too I would imagine, let alone the stabiliser. They're available at decent prices used as well. Anyway....... Here is some lateral thought to get round manufacturer's borderline kinky fetish of not putting mic inputs on any of these cameras. With this portable HDMI recorder you can add a mic input to ANY small camera for only £66 I'm almost certain it can be persuaded to be USB powered as well. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074Z3K8C1/ref=psdc_949408031_t2_B00VM4J4Y6 And how can you resist a product that lists the mic input feature as "Support the microphone input voice more vivid to show" ? As Doge would say....

RED and Foxconn to create range of affordable 8K prosumer cinema cameras

I keep getting tempted by that one but I'm awaiting the Fusion being available here. And now NAB is nearly here so the safety catch is definitely set to ON for the purchase trigger for now. I've had the Theta S since it was launched and its great for messing about with but its resolution is obviously not up for prime time. -

Always had hopes that BMD would use BMMCC as a base for 3D and VR cameras. Maybe they might yet do for the latter as I think there have been some 3rd party attempts at using them. -
The power bank in you link had a built in micro USB cable, which is the one you need. They supply it with your choice of adapter to go from micro USB to either iPhone or USB C so that is just a free bonus so I'd go with whatever type you'll find most useful !

Haha No, I need to get iPhone X purchase approval first so I can do the bait and switch -
That's what they said when Apple started using Intel
-
I'm such an expert that I've clearly hacked your accounts to post nice things about myself!! I like the sound of this a lot.

They are all much of a muchness but something like this would be a neat solution as it is credit card sized and has the inbuilt USB cable. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B015NB1JLO/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1521134037&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=credit+card+power+bank&dpPl=1&dpID=41iAH9jM4kL&ref=plSrch

All about plausible deniability isn't it ? I might go with "Remember when said I fancied an iPhone X dear? Well, good news, I've found something cheaper so I'm actually saving us money here". Although 3D cats could actually also be just as effective. I was thinking about the GoPro fusion as VR does fascinate me but if I'm going to flush money down the drain on something with a completely uncertain adoption fate then it might be better to be in on the ground floor of something new with the Hydrogen. Although by the time RED ship it, I might only exist in virtual holographic form myself! -

Having little to no immediate practical value has never stopped me buying something though. Pre orders close today you say? -
Thanks to @flip21 pointing out that I'd linked the wrong one in the original post. That one was direct connect so you need the one with the HDMI connector so something like this one. Shop around obviously https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/1080P-IPS-3-5-inch-HDMI-LCD-Screen-Display-for-Raspberry-Pi-w-Acrylic-Case/382391593643?epid=8015535815&hash=item590850aaab

Sorry, yes, I'd pulled one out that was a direct one. Similar with case https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/1080P-IPS-3-5-inch-HDMI-LCD-Screen-Display-for-Raspberry-Pi-w-Acrylic-Case/382391593643?epid=8015535815&hash=item590850aaab Shop around and they should be cheaper.

No, you don't need the PI The screen has a full size HDMI input and a micro USB power input on the edge of the circuit board. In the first picture you can see HDMI cable going in at the top and the USB power one on the right.
