  8. To be fair, I think the Pocket thing was two fold really. Obviously the physical one of you needing the proverbial clown's pocket to fit it in. The other was more philosophical about the contrast to the original. A bit like both of these cars being a Fiat500
  9. From a quick test on mine yesterday, I'd say the answers to your questions are "subtle, if at all" and "not even remotely close". I love this camera but the AF is never going to give the likes of Canon or Sony any sleepless nights but AF is less important to me with the fp so I turn a blind eye to it. Which, coincidentally, what the camera itself appears to do when trying to use face detect mode !

As @IronFilm says, A format will give you the most flexibility as it is a raw recording of each of the four capsules and the Zoom Ambisonics Player app can then convert that to B format (or to stereo, binaural and 5.1 too) for you to then drop in to your editing system. The B format encoder that is built in to the H3VR will save you the step of having to run it through the Ambisonics Player app, something which, due to app not having a batch process capability, can become quite tedious and time consuming if you have a lot of clips. Because I am inherently a lazy bugger, thats why I record on the H3VR in B format to avoid the extra steps and use its internal down mix feature to record a live binaural feed into the camera as often the latter is all I need but can still have the option to tweak it using the B format files during the edit if I need to.
  11. Another one they need to make really is an EVF with in built recorder, something which is much more viable now with the tiny SSDs. Having it in an EVF format would add so much value to a lot of cameras, particularly fixed screen ones like the fp and Pocket4K/6K. In an ideal world, RED would license R3D directly to camera manufacturers to stop the hoop jumping and I'd presumed their link up with Canon over the KOMODO was going to do just that with the R5 but as far as I understand that isn't the case.
  12. Maybe one day Atomos will take the hint about doing a 4K Ninja Star. Of course with the fp being able to record to an external SSD itself you would imagine it might be unecessary to use a full on external system anyway but I'm guessing this might be the only way to currently deal with RED's patent.

Funnily enough, I was going to post in the Panasonic G100 thread that Olympus had all the tools necessary to make a really good vlogging camera and might find their niche there to get some momentum back. Sadly, with a company like JIP, we will get to see an Olympus vlogging camera but it will just be their name on an Aliexpress £40 special like this. When I was a kid starting out as a photographer, Olympus was a big enough brand to be running a long running series of TV ads featuring Bailey so its sad to see it all ending with it going full circle and before long people will be saying "Olympus, who were they?"
  16. For anyone that hasn't used it, that 12-32mm kit lens is a very good performer albeit not that fastest and does have OIS. On the downside, there is no manual focus control (other than via the app or touchscreen) so vloggers best hope the face detect AF works !

Yes, with a motor add on (which won't necessarily be a Tilta one but could be) it will then be a generic product that can be used on any camera with any lens rather than being specific to the Blackmagic as it currently is. A motor option will not be far behind the release of the Blackmagic version.
  18. I think they could really make an impact by basing it on the LX100. Price wise even the MkII is about 20% cheaper than the RX100M5 and is actually cheaper than the new ZV1 as well so there shouldn't be an issue there. Plus, that f1.7 lens on the bigger sensor is going to be a win. I think for the vlogging angle, I know a way they could get around the lack of phase-detect AF using a technique with face detection (as that is the primary focus if you pardon the pun) that would work very effectively on a fixed lens camera because they could really tune it whereas with an interchangeable lens camera its more of a challenge. As a general camera, I think it would be great to have an LX100 with a swivel screen and a mic input particularly as it is an underrated stills camera. I did a test a fair while ago ostensibly as a comparison between the SD Quattro with a 35mm f1.4 ART and a Fuji X-T2 with their 35mm f1.4 and used my LX100 and DP2M as control subjects and was very surprised how it held up. Top Row (L-R) SD Quattro X-T2 Bottom Row (L-R) LX100 DP2M Just annoying that the LX100 has steadfastly refused to have Cinelike D put on it !
  19. Yeah, its all about perception. The HC500 is £3100 so the caddy at £354 is more than 10% of the cost of the whole camera for what appears to be an M.2 to USB-C interface in a plastic case! But if they'd just made the camera £3400 and included the caddy then I don't think anyone would have batted an eyelid because its still great value for money. Separating it out like that just makes it seem like a colossal rip off.

You would guess that following Sony's lead generally basing their new one on the RX100 that Panasonic would base theirs on the LX10/15 so it does seem unusual for them to give it a "G" model name if that was the case. Though they could just be harmonising names and some of their models do have different model names in Japan (GX80 is GX7ii etc). If it is based on the LX10/15 with a mic input and a sideways screen then it will be pretty decent. I'm guessing they'll add HLG (it already has Cinelike D if you use my little discovery ) but they might struggle against the Sony AF and the Sony also has quite a neat face based AE function that is very useful for vloggers. If they keep the F1.4-2.8 lens of the LX10/15 then it will certainly be much faster. However.....If the "G100" name is referencing that they've repurposed the LX100 with a swivel screen and a microphone input then, well, that would be very interesting even for those of us who've never stared into a lens and said "Hey guys, what's happening ?"
  21. The downer about the M.2 caddy is that for some inexplicable reason it is $400. Comparative to the cost of the entire camera thats the sort of media housing price gouge that is worthy of a Jinnitech investigation !
  22. It was just the lenses in the end then. The 100-400 is about $200 more than the existing EF/F/SA versions but seems to be a complete re-design. Its still very decent value and its obviously got a captive audience for anyone with an L mount camera wanting a long lens. Not sure why they don't have prices for the small primes yet considering they are coming out next month.
  23. Erm....well I did say it was a 1" camcorder so neither of those things exactly come as a shock but it wasn't the point anyway. The point was to illustrate JVC's willingness to not skimp on spec or interfacing on a lower end product and include the two features you were requesting which was a positive indication if they made a successor to the LS300. Which they likely won't make anyway so its probably moot.
