Wow, that one had passed me by as it appears on their website in their shop but not under their product listings in the 0.7x section. I’d guess that as they state it only works with the FP/L and BM6K that it might also work with the similarly mechanical shutter free S9 as well. If so that would be a good option for people looking to shoot the higher frame rates offered in crop mode on the S9, albeit it at the expense of a much bigger overall form factor with having to use EF lenses and the adapter instead of the native L mount lenses. Although foregoing the electronic aspect and just using the EF mount as a bridge it does also offer good options to then mount F, C/Y and R etc. Good find.

I’d say that they are rare enough to suggest that they might not have actually been released at all! Plenty of online retailers list them but none in stock and suspiciously not a single review. I had exactly the same issue when looking for their Leica R to L mount speedbooster. Bear in mind though that when you look at the detail both adapters were reasonably restrictive - particularly the Nikon version - in terms of the lenses that you could put on them so this may have contributed to them not selling in sufficient numbers to make it worthwhile continuing beyond the initial batch. I do actually have an L mount speedbooster but it is the Kipon BavEyes for 645 lenses and they also do them for Hasselblad V mount lenses, so medium format down to full frame is the whole extent of what’s available. The only real options for faster than your 18-35 is to pick up the Sigma f1.4 APS-C primes which are excellent but a marginal gain for the additional outlay. I have the Metabones C/Y to E mount speedbooster which works well so the other option is to change bodies to a Sony APS-C to use your Contax selection. The only APS-C bodies in L mount were the Leica T/TL/CL (I wanted the R to L speedbooster for my Leica T) but these are now discontinued so it doesn’t look promising in terms of Metabones or anyone else looking to develop speedboosters for L Mount. It could change if Panasonic or Sigma release an APS-C body but I wouldn’t hold my breath on that. Of the two, Sigma are more likely to as they already have the lenses to support it and that full frame Foveon looks to be so problematic for them to achieve that an interim APS-C version may be a possibility.

Its being used as a shorthand for there being a specific V-LOG RAW to LOG profile for ProRes RAW in FCPX. In practical terms, without seeing the camera, I'm guessing if you select ProRes RAW as an option then it prevents selection of ARRI c3 as an option or reverts it to V-LOG. The range of adjustments available - aside from the Nikon Z8/9 - in ProRes RAW is limited to ISO in most cases but also has white balance control with the Panasonic cameras. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/109504 The Camera Labs review of the GH7 shows it in action (time stamp queued up) I've never used ProRes RAW, though I do have a Ninja to use it with, but I'm fascinated by the optimisation it has in FCPX for processing and final rendering versus other formats that are outlined in these videos.

As will a tonne of non-ARRI shooters too. As I said, it’s a caveat (or a glancing blow from the cripple hammer) but not a massive drawback in practical terms.
-
A caveat to note is that the LogC3 can only be used in the compressed formats and that it is still only Vlog-L that is available in ProRes RAW. With it having ProRes HQ 4:2:2, this is likely not a massive drawback. Especially, of course, if you are a Resolve user and don’t want the extra transcoding step anyway.

Thats quite the surprise. The handheld Alexa dream finally realised ? I wonder if this is going to turn up on the S line cameras as well? https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/panasonic-licenses-arri-logc3-from-arri-for-the-lumix-gh7-302165254.html

This announcement has obviously been overshadowed on here by it being GH7 day but here is the live stream for the C400.

According to the man who leaves his kids inside so he can breathlessly announce a new camera rumour, this is the spec. He plans to live blog the actual livestream announcement so they'll be making their own tea tonight.

Meanwhile, across the street..... "Looks like that fella at number 38 is having an extension put in Brian. Get on to the council to check his planning permission".

I think Samyang getting that L mount version of the 35-150mm over the line might bode well for the S9 if they can now also start bringing their compact prime lenses over to L mount too. I have their 35mm f2.8 in E mount, for example, and it would be ideal for the S9 and is available for around £220. They also have a number of others in the same range such as 24mm etc that are form factor appropriate for the S9.

I can’t speak for YouTubers but one of my previous roles was writing magazine features and product reviews. In addition, I also covered the press only product launches and the major trade shows such as IBC, NAB and AES. At no time during any of that was I provided with prostitutes by any manufacturer. And God knows I asked them enough times.

I think we are probably a few days away from discovering that S9-gate was really GH7-gate all along. At the time the rest of them started gathering in Osaka, I commented that there were quite a few MFT oriented channels there. My speculation about that was that the S9 was being introduced as the “new” MFT camera to transition to FF. When the “there was another camera they were going to launch but didn’t” stuff started up and then Undone wet his pants, I felt that I was wrong about that speculation and that they were sent back from the trip with an MFT camera as well to “review” when they got home. The extent of his (likely bridge burning) reaction seemed too much for missing out on an interesting but not ground breaking camera so I think it’s because he’s missed out on a much more significant release. With his response to the GH6 he could probably have expected to get a lot of views for his take on the GH7. Incidentally, there is another Canadian YouTuber that received the exact same treatment in not being invited to Japan for the S9 (which he expected because he turns down all such trips) but, significantly, for the first time not being sent the camera. Im sure he has his own views about that, erm, conspiracy. So, Undone was not as singled out for “special” treatment from Panasonic as widely believed.

It’s OK for them to call out Trump’s behaviour when it intersects with their interests though. https://www.nab.org/documents/newsroom/pressRelease.asp?id=4253 I suspect that they may be trying to hedge their bets in preparation in the event of his not completely unlikely WTF re-election in November. The NAB are fundamentally a lobbying group after all that, following their ability to host their cash cow show again after Covid, are now able to resume spending $12-16m a year greasing both sides of the aisle. https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/national-assn-of-broadcasters/summary?id=D000000202

The “new” Leica camera, internally at least, is their version of the Panasonic LX100ii. It is wearing a different jacket so is far more like a mini Q than an LX100ii and it has the very elegant Leica interface and the RAWs are DNG. Those differences make it a very nice little camera to be fair but the price…. Well, obviously.

I understand that they based the algorithm for the battery gauge on the Pocket based on this. Do you have one of ye olde worlde NPF adapters like this one ? It will power the camera all day obviously and with much the lower profile F550 batteries you'll still get plenty of run time without it being too unwieldy. There is actually an argument that adding the weight on to the camera using one of these is beneficial anyway when it comes to it not wafting about. However, the good thing about these plates and the way I use(d) mine when out and about was to have it in my coat/bag and attach it to the camera when moving place to place to top up the charge of the internal battery. Time has moved on though and if I was looking for something a bit more modern to deal with the problem then this small charging case looks pretty interesting. It is to be used with a USB power pack (of which there are a gazillion of various sizes and capacities obviously) and can be used in the jacket/bag in the same way as the battery plate except of course you are background charging batteries to be put in the camera rather than re-charging the one that is currently in it. I think its a decent price for what you get as it includes two batteries and it also doubles as a dual slot USB card reader. It won't stop the randomness of the insta-drain "feature" of the BMPCC so to be totally sure of avoiding that then you'll need the continuous power offered by the NPF adapter.

“Daddy, please come back inside and play with us” ”Not now kids, the world MUST be told IMMEDIATELY about a rumour I’ve heard about a new camera”. From Mr. Undone to Mr. Unfun, it’s all a bit silly for grown adults this isn’t it?

I don’t think the ad revenue argument stands up to any scrutiny to be honest. Have a look at the views for all of the S9 videos. YouTube pays what these days, $2-3K per million views? Big channels covering it such as PetaPixel have broke 100K views but the rest are mainly sub 20 and 30K. I’s be surprised if the total viewership from all of the attendants broke a million views so I don’t think anyone is making money on ad revenue. As I said, those days are gone and these numbers are indicative of it. The first dozen or so times I went to do work in Japan, I didn’t see any of it either. Thats why I went back on holidays there. The only reason I could do the latter was because I got paid for the former. No one was getting my work time for free and no one was getting any of my holiday time for free either. If someone has paid me to go on holiday but expects me to attend a seminar, bussed around on a few organised days of photo opportunities and then produce a video about their product in a deadline no less then I either haven’t really been on holiday or I’ve allowed myself to be paid a negligible rate. It would be akin to going on a free “holiday” from a timeshare company. In the imaging industry there has been a race to the bottom fuelled by the initially creeping and now virtually ubiquitous expectation that people should work for the exposure and the networking opportunity so I find it out of order that people are aiding and abetting the practice for a manufacturer. When the practice now actually begins with the manufacturer, how will that situation improve for anyone who they want to sell the product to? In the past decade or so, malignant interests have bought off politicians in the UK and other countries and it’s a toss up between what has been the more surprising; the ease with which it has been done or how little it actually costs. I suspect many manufacturers (not just of cameras) view their relationship with many YouTubers in exactly the same way.

You’d have to question the business wisdom of such a trip that took out at least 7-8 days out of working time when you factor in prep, travel and jet lag recovery. Yes the travel, accommodation and likely some sort of PD was involved but without an actual fee, how is the loss of earnings for those days covered ? Even if you factored in the “long term” loan of the camera being so long term that they allow you to sell it then a $1000 spread over 7 days isn’t much of a day rate. I don’t think the argument of exposure and views compensating holds up either. The gold rush era of making YouTube camera videos and becoming relatively rich is in the rear view mirror now. Thats why so many of them are pivoting to other areas. The days of these get rich quick Beverley Shillbillies will hopefully be a thing of the past pretty soon.

With regard to the objectivity and competence of these “reviewers”, I thought we’d put that to bed on here a few years ago. Never forget the absolute pile on suffered by @Andrew Reid for raising the blatant shenanigans that Canon were up to and the lengths that we both had to go to in proving it definitively. Did any of these clowns apologise ? No, they just made follow up videos about it to generate more clicks ! Oh but jokes about kittens right ?
